left field
Since I can't travel, I'm reaching back into past trips for material. As always, it's not about the number of fish caught - at least that's what I keep telling myself. https://www.gothamcanoe.com/a-trout-guy-hits-the-blistering-flats-of-tulum-wonders-ensue/
Versatile_Hunter
This is great, felt like I was there! I’ve caught 1 bonefish (as a kid) with a spinning rod and live shrimp off Key Biscayne. We were actually musing over potential summer trips the other night and fly fishing for permit has risen to the top of my next up list. Not sure if this would be the best way to learn to fly fish but my lady wasn’t digging a Maine backcountry summer getaway.
left field
Nothing is impossible, but permit would be a tough fish to learn on. Take a look at the trip booker https://www.yellowdogflyfishing.com/ for inspiration and details on worldwide fishing, including a number of couple-oriented lodges. Here's the crocodile video I mentioned in the article. That strip of sand the kid is swimming toward is where I was fishing. When the shot pans up you can see the break in the trees that you have to swim across to get to the better flat. Wasn't feeling it.
Foggy Mountain
Bonefish to me is one of the coolest saltwater fish to fly fish for. Awesome experience
left field
As much as I am a trout guy -- standing in tropical water wearing shorts and flip flops, casting to fish that take me into the backing, and knowing that there's a cold beer waiting for me on the beach is a pretty sweet way to fish.
