Shooting Bags (to rest rifle on at the range)

What do you use for shooting bags ? I bought a few empty shot bags for 25 cents each and filled them with "clean" kitty litter . I've been using the same bags for about 15 years .

You can use an old pant leg from a pair of jeans and sew the ends shut. That will work too. You can even get creative and sew a seam in the middle, fill with sand and sew the ends shut. The split will make a good forearm rest or v-wedge under the buttstock near your shoulder.

I fill with rice, coarse sand, or old charcoal that comes from pool filters.

Shot bags come in different sizes and you can get creative. I just gave away a dozen bags to my buddy who wanted to make some shooting bags. I'm saving these but don't think I can use the plastic bags for anything. The heavy canvas bags are the best. (Seen on the right)

I only use a front bag.  I have a leather one with ears on it that is filled with sand.  Got it over 35 years ago.  I settle the butt stock into my shoulder with my fist under it as a rest.

I used some old pillow cases...Cut em up so they were smaller. Filled with sand, and then put them in small burlap bags that some coffee comes in..

Sandbags you get at hardware store for weight in pickup work good.

The shot bags and kitty litter cost me a total of about $2 ..........

I got my canvas bags from the bank (for coins) and had my daughter sew them up.

I fill with rice...so if it ever leaks...its an easy cleanup.

I use the shot bags too. Instead of sewing them(I dont know how) I zip tie it shut....hasent leaked yet.

i like the shot bags too. Just fill em with sand and your good to go.

I have a a Caldwell set of pags.. Nothing special, was a gift..

And on one front bag, I tore a hole with a sling swivel, so I wouldn't recommend them..
