Since this past weekend was nice, and I had a free day, I started to prep the outside of the house... Cut down some shrubs, cleaned up the beds... Neighbors rented a power rake, so 4 of us went in on that... Worked out good, I have a small front / back yard so it only took about 30 min. Mowed up all the dead grass from the power rake, then seeded, threw down some peat moss.. I had a tree almost come down during the hurricane last year, and we had it cut down. I had to clean that whole area up, get rid of the chips from the grinding and toss top soil and moss down, then seeded that as well... Then I went with the starter fertilizer and watered. Hopefully the weather holds up so the seeds germinate. I know its a little early, but I had to get it done this weekend because my next two months weekends are crazy and it would be to late. Hopefully it wasn't a waste

This is the busiest time of the year. Every year I have a million maintenance activities that involve hours of clean-up. The house, yard, and outbuildings are surrounded by woods, so the tree-limb pick-up and the leaf removal form a big part of what has to be done every year whether anything else gets done or not. After that comes the grounds improvement and any repairs or improvements to the house and outbuildings. Also, there is the beginning of the garden prep. No wonder I seldom have a chance to catch the bullheads when they are running ..... lol.

I helped my sister in law and her friend clear out some brush at her country home in Geneseo . Her property drops off behind the house and is loaded with Sumac and multi-floral rose bushes and vines . Her friend was using a small tractor with a chain to pull some stuff out and that was time consuming . We tried to pull out some of the rose bushes by the roots but they would just pull apart .

I had purchased a set of Black & Decker Alligator Loppers to cut the sumac and other stuff instead of using the chain saw . It was a pretty good investment and cut some stuff of over 3" diameter .

I was at it for almost 7 hours and I ache all over !

It sure has been nice to be able to get out in short-sleeves and get work done early this year. I even was able to get that man-killer tiller out on the garden and get dragged around for a couple hours. I never realized just how bad a person's body can get beat up by such a small machine .... lol.

Also, I noted that the weather guys around Rochester had a low temperature prediction of 22 degrees for next week. Isn't that nice? Now that the weird hot weather finally tempted the buds and blossoms out on the fruit trees, they're going to get slammed with a super-killing frost. Well, maybe the weather guys will be as screwed up on that prediction as they usually are on others.

I was going to get the Patio Furniture out but there is still a chance of snow .

The first few seeds are geminating... So hopefully it takes with this colder weather coming this week.
