I figure I might as well try an Xbow and purchased a Excalibur "Axiom". The biggest advantage I see is not having to draw on a deer which means a lot since I am primarily a ground hunter. I am also looking forward to using a different weapon to harvest a whitetail. I find it ironic that I also bought a recurve bow this year to learn traditional archery.

I just purchased the Excalibur Marix 310 two days ago. What an awesome weapon. After shooting my cousins Axiom I thought that was going to be the one i purchased but i was driving by S & S Taxidermy in springville and they have a big selection of crossbows i decided to stop and test shot the 310 and fell in love with it. Cant wait till November 1st !!!!

I do not know if the cross bow will help being a ground hunter. At 73, I find I still can shoot my compound at 55 lbs or my recurve at 45 lbs, and yes it sure is harder to get a shot off when the deer  and it is eye ball to eye ball on the ground. But the feeling you have when you get a good buck, sure make you feel like a true hunter. I found I went from 100% deer each year in a tree stand to less than 25 % on the ground. I found you have to wait the deer out and let him or her have the deer head in back of a tree to get the bow up to shoot. I also found you sure have to play the wind so the deer does not smell you...

I bought a Matrix also.Love the compact limbs on the Matrix over the other models. Also if you blow a string you can replace it in the field in less than 5 minutes. Not so with compound style  crossbows.I can decock it also without shooting it.I'm not sure why NY went with the 200 lb. limit.Makes no sence.

Its the same with bows minimum but no maximum. Makes no sense! But from the DEC officer I talked to its because of the rate of speed there worried about that makes no sense. Theres no limitations on ammo we shoot for guns.Seems like another pointless politician really knows what there talking about.
