  1. can't tell, but hope he don't have a double white throat patch
  2. O.K..let me get this straight if I shoot a recurve...i should shoot only 20 yards???? if i shoot a new Hoyt...carbon arrows...mechanical broadheads...I should only shoot 20yards???? thats like saying my flintlock should only be used out to 50 yards, so my new inline T/C 50cal with a scope should only be used out to 50 yards.....ethics....or just stuck in 1950's we went from 2x4's nailed to a tree to climbers that almost climb themself..... Ethics comes down to NOT doing something out side of your limits I would rather take a 50yard shot at a deer eating in a feild...before a 10 yard head on shot Phade good for you...you killed one hell of a buck...then you turned around and helped a fellow bowhunter put one on the ground.....that is what this sport needs
  3. tompkins county...took 3 months to get my permit.... now here is the part that sucks when you buy a gun...you can not take it home...you have to take the receipt to the sheriff station...then they mail it to the judge...when he gets time he will approve or denie the purchase....this can take from 2 weeks to 6 months I bought a gun S&W 460 from gander....took all the paperwork in...it took the judge 4 months to get my coupon back to me....so after I layed 1,000$ on the counter....it was 4 months before I got my coupon to go pick it up edit to add all nys pistol permits are concealed...you can NOT open carry if you are open carrying...you will get a ticket for disturbing the peace
  4. Tuning has NOTHING to do with it. Do you get it? How fast is that arrow going at 30 yards, 40 yards or 50 yards? this might be the dumbest thing i ever heard in my life...really...tuneing has nothing to do with it... shooting a deer at 50yards that's at ease ....no problem.... I promise my bow at 300fps is shooting faster at 50 yards than my first bear whitetail did at 10yards.... my first bow shot about 150fps with fixed blade broadheads....my new bow 300fps mechanicals you know we have come out of the stoneage Ever have a deer jump the string? Naw...........nope never if you can read...he said getting ready for next year....tune your bow....practice
  5. 50 yard shots are not that tough if you have your bow tuned properly and practice a lot....if you can put a consistant group of 4 " together at 50 yards you can make the shot but your then missing the point of bowhunting...the game is to get close.... stop and think about this....bowhunters practice all summer and don't feel comfortable takeing long shots but then pick up a gun and think they are marine snipers without any practice....i don't get it.....
  6. it sounds like you did everything right.....you can hold your head high knowing that you spent a LOT more time looking than most would.....good luck the rest of the season
  7. congrats hounds looks like a great day
  8. it sucks when it happens....but if you hunt long and hard it will happen don't hang your head, if you practice shooting and hunt the right way, took a good shot...you got nothing to hang your head about...just bad luck the guys that piss me off....don't practice ...take bad shots ...and don't look if it don't drop right their
  9. it's in the Q&A section Q: I have a pistol permit, may I carry my handgun while bowhunting? A: No. While bowhunting during a special bow season, you may not possess a firearm of any description. heres the real dumb part You can't have a loaded gun while spotlighting however you can have a loaded handgun while spotlighting deer don't make no sense, the DEC needs to be retooled
  10. buckhunter the answer is NO...bad advice.... just being an employee does not give you permission most company's have a NO firearm policy...
  11. employee or not you need permission...it's not an easy job...most owners are scared of liability as well as pissing off non hunting employee's if you are an employee and don't have written permission expect to be fired
  12. you have to think about all the scent prevention you go through ....then just start peeing all around your stand...don't make scent's....LOL
  13. i carry a S&W 460 8 3/8" barrell.....this year I think the long gun will stay in the safe
  14. good question...however the poll needs a sometimes button usually at night i sit feilds...so no not on the way in mornings I sit deep woods/swamps....so I do on the way out the release goe's on at the truck...everytime
  15. guys I have hunted this DFMA area since i could walk, been hunting on cornell land for for 21 years the hunting has never been WORSE, than it is now.... besides the number of deer killed....the number of button bucks killed is disgusting the risk you take with a earn-a-buck program...is uneducated/greedy hunters wanting to earn a buck tag the numbers are not avaiable anymore...however it is somewhere between 30 and 40 button bucks over 4 years....7 reported in 2011 now with this DFMA program....how many more button bucks will suffer....not to mention I have seen mature bucks drop their antlers in january
  16. yup same buck...or twins nice curve to the G2's...and that crab claw on the left side gives it away
  17. i lost a good summit that way...sucks just good no one was in it
  18. 2 to 1 deer population 15 deer per sq mile 10 doe 5 bucks 3 at 1 1/2 1 at 2 1/2 1 at 3+ these would be pretty good numbers, however hunter numbers could be as high as 20 hunters per sq mile.. I can tell you this...it don't matter the DEC has goals of 3 to 5 deer per sq mile the DFMA program is in my back yard, this is a PILOT program, if they beleive that it was a success....it will be in your backyard next
  19. kenny d i don't think the hunting is worth a 5 hour drive everyone thinks because of all the doe permits it's like shooting fish in a barrell....it's not it's just like anywhere else...if you hunt hard you might get a shot at a doe..... be prepared, you will have to deal with hikers, bikers and dog walkers, last year we had people walking their dogs under our stands on a regular basis
  20. 7J, you don't actually get a second buck tag once you shoot a doe, you can then shoot a buck, with your tag...you can NOT shoot a buck until you have killed a doe NO special second buck tag
