  1. Man I don't know why but I think non typical game is the best. If I had a chance at a irregular antlered deer, a albino game animal or a Tom like that id take it as soon as I could.
  2. I live in the catskills and have been all my life. I live near a town called margaretville. So much woods and mountains around I love looking through them trying to spot a big buck.
  3. Thanks I will try doing the paper test tomorrow of it doesn't rip another fletching.
  4. Man that picture of the fawn looks like a photographer took them let alone a trail camera.
  5. Just wondering, how can I check if my nock point is off?
  6. Unless that white tail is a whole albino I am eating his back half instead of stuffing it. Ha ha
  7. Thanks a bunch guys i have a little change box i have been slipping a few bucks in once a week to save up for a mount this year. I have always wanted my own trophy mount. It looks like there is a good average of maybe $450 id say and i have just about that much. How much does a full body mount run for? im guessing double since it is twice the size so twice the work. Thanks a whole bunch guys! Forest Hunter
  8. Thanks a bunch. I shoot straight durvanes and i measured that they are about half an inch high and when i am at full draw there is clearance from the bottom of my sight to the cock fletch up. So i ruled that it hitting the bottom of the sight out. since they re staright and it seems like that the octane hostage rest can only shoot out a cock fletch up arrow. I checked the nocks and they all seem pretty spot on. so im narrowing it down to the rest. Im gonna take wiskerbiscuit since it seems like the most practical one. It can take any arrow fletch which is pretty darn convineant. The octane rest whiskers are pretty rough and stiff so thats my best guess with the arrows. Thanks Forest Hunter
  9. Oh I feel your pain I left it for a week then when I checked it I had two four pointers and I have been itching to check it. I try to leave it alone for at LEAST four days. I will admit it is hard knowing that j could have pics of my first buck on there.
  10. I have the Martin Saber bow. I am not sure what is happening, my fletchings on my arrows are all ripping for some reason. I have a hunch that they could be hitting the sight because it is very low but before the arrows would shoot fine. I have the octane hostage rest and the sight is very low. I shoot cock fletch up arrow and that is the fletchings that is being teared. I am down to one arrow and I am pretty upset. Could it be my rest or my sight? Thanks if you can help any. Forest Hunter
  11. Hey guys I see that everyone has their own trophy in their eyes. I was wondering how much does some good taxidermy cost for a deer head mount? I was also wondering how much does small game go for like maybe a fox or a bobcat. Thanks a bunch Forest Hunter
  12. Thanks a bunch guys, I live in the 3A section in New York. I want to try and pick off some squirrels by my stand. They build up my hopes when I think it could be a big buck walking by when it ends up being a little squirrel. I thought about using a small rifle but a bow will be more fun and good practice. Thanks again Forest Hunter
  13. I learned that Red squirrels are unprotected in New York and I want to try and find a few in the woods. It is hard finding nests in the trees with all of the leaves. I have seen one or two running around in the woods. Any tips on trying to find a nest and wait for one to walk by for a blugeon tip? Thanks Forest Hunter
  14. I got the Glen Del 3D target and if you looking for a good 3D target this is one you might want to get. The vitals is a block you can flip around if you shoot out one side. You can also buy a new insert for the vitals if you shoot out the vitals. I only payed $150 for it and it is one of the best targets I have had. If your looking for a target I really recommend this one. http://www.glendel.com/
  15. Thanks guys. That woodchuck has been asking for trouble eating up the tomatoes out of the garden. I want to try and throw a broadhead into that little bugger. I know they like cantelope and I dont think much other wildlife like it too much. Thanks Forest Hunter
  16. I know that you can not hunt over bait with big game. I was looking at the laws on the New York DEP website and I didn't see any laws on bait hunting small game. The red squirrel and woodchuck have no season and no limit. I have tried to get an elusive woodchuck for a month or two maybe. I was wondering is there bait laws for small game hunting or just big game hunting? Or did I misunderstand anything like if there is just no such thing as bait hunting? http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27801.html Thanks Forest Hunter
  17. If there is no season I'll set up for him tomorrow. I pretty much have no such thing as neighbors by my house. Thanks
  18. I have heard that turkey like picking at what a cow leaves behind if you know what I mean. Is this true, if so I might be setting up a blind in the cow fields on the property I hunt and try to call in a long beard. Thanks Forest Hunter
  19. I have been practicing since maybe the beginning of july. I shoot accurately up to thirty yards and I shoot in a field at a 3D target. I was just wondering about what factors of shooting out of a treestand can effect the where the arrow will end up. Thanks Forest Hunter
  20. Thank you both. I only shoot fifty pounds with a twenty nine inch draw length. I feel like I can trust a fixed broadhead more because of how it can't fail as long as I get a good shot. Thanks
  21. Which do you use and why? I have only bow hunted big game for a year. I got one whitetail with a fixed three blade. I practiced with it and it worked fine. When I shot at the doe it curved up and hit the spine. It was a bittersweet moment that the doe dropped but the broadhead made the arrow hit high for some reason. Mechanical broadheads are closed in flight and I think that they could make this issue much easier to deal with. What are you opinions?
  22. Man I hope that I have some big guy like that walk past my stand this bow season.
  23. Well I think this is a great forum and has already answered some burning questions I have had. I am fifteen years old and still learning the tricks of the trade of hunting. I can't wait to dive in and learn some through the posts. I use my Martin Saber bow for just about everything I can. I have harvested many animals from squirrels to a whitetail.
  24. I have seen a woodchuck around the house lately and have watched him scoot around the woods and fields nearby. I have found an entrance to his burrow and saw some tracks next to the entrance. When the season for me to hunt him legally I was wondering what would be the best way to hunt him. Waiting outside the burrow entrance I found in some camo or if I should walk around looking for him? I have a bow and I can only shoot up to 30 yards so I need to get in close.
