Rage Bloodtrail Video.... Pretty Graphic!
Forest Hunter replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Bow Hunting
I really want to try them out. I only shoot about 45 pounds with a 29 draw length, so I'm hesitant at trying them out. I really want to use the 125-2 blade broadhead since my field tips on my arrows are 125 grain but I'm still a little hesitant to because of my lower draw weight. But since I see how they are pretty much pushed open from hitting something I don't think my lower weight would cause any issues. Seeing this wants me to get them even more. Will my draw weight effect it any? -
I don't hunt for the killing. Last year was my first year and that was pretty much my idea of hunting. Now sitting there all day and having feel like it's only been a few minutes is one of the best parts of hunting. I also know what is around now since I bought my camera and have seen plenty of bucks. Since I know what's around I know I'm gonna be passing plenty of deer. Thanks for letting me know guys Forest Hunter

I'm going to be 16 september 29th. I was wondering when I go down to my sports store that day or a few days after. I was wondering what is the most amount of tags I can get. I have my rifle and bow hunting class certificates. Thanks a bunch

I'd be happy with one of the 10 pointers ha ha

Wow I don't have a blind but I have made a few with some sticks and pines. I have had them walk by with me in a treestand and I am gonna try and get some turkey hunting in before bow season starts to get into my hunting phase. I will set up a decoy, start calling and hopefully hit a big tom. Maybe even two at once ha ha Thanks a bunch guys
-
I have not shot a turkey before and I'm planning to hunt one and I am an A LOT better shot with my bow. I mean you can not shoot them with a rifle. So if you have shot a turkey it was relatively close. A shotguns range and a bows range are somewhat similar. So I was wondering has anyone else shot a turkey with their bow and how did it go?

I think that baiting and enticement laws are a real touchy topic. It is like racial laws and what is racist and what is not. If you make a food plot to feed deer corn it is legal. If you get a bag of corn kernals and feed deer with it is illegal. It is just something that will probably not be cleared up for a while.

The first im not sure if it is a spike or a 3 or 4 pointer. The second i think could be a 6 or 8 im not sure, whats your opinion? I think the next is the same buck and sorry i could not get the zoom to work. Thanks a bunch Forest Hunter

I've shot each of my new broadheads once into my block target, and I may do that one more time. I will end up buying another pack of them right before season just to have. As for sharpening them, my experience, and I wont speak for everyone, is that if you shoot BH arrows into a target 1, 2 or 3 times, usually its not enough to dull them up much. Always sharper is better of course. IF your really worried about it, buy a second pack, and either swap the new ones out before season, or get a pack of replacement blades if you can. I personally never had good consistent results sharpening BH blades. When I took my archery course, the instructers had a neat DIY trick to determine if a BH needed to be sharpened or replaced...Take a roll of masking tape, and a fist full of rubber bands...put the rubber bands all over the tape roll so that they criss cross the hole of the roll and make a "web"....The instructors then took a sharp and a dull broadhead on an arrow and by hand, inserted it into the web of rubber bands....the dull one did not cut the rubber bands, it merely pushed them aside. The sharp one cut a bunch of them. They then said that rubber bands are similar in elasticity to that of tendons and arteries in a deer. It made sense to me, and I tried it at home with a dull BH and a brand spanking new one out of the pack, and I got the same results. So that is sort of my "checker" for blade sharpness. That does sound like a good idea I shoot muzzy three blades and they're relatively cheap so I might shoot the three in the pack into my target. I have and see how they shoot and buy another pack of the same broadheads to put them on for hunting. I might try that rubber band method and see how shooting broadheads dull them.

Ha ha!! I had that happen too and I have two big eyes looking at me like in a big bird in the tree.

I wanted to use a rage broadhead but I only shoot 50 pounds and I think it would be harder for the blades to deploy. I want to use the 40 KE broadhead but I'm still hesitant.

Man everybody is out for money.

Why do stores have things that are just practically illegal to use? Deer blocks, deer feed and some broadheads? Why do companies sell them in New York when they're intended use is illegal in New York. I mean I see mineral licks called "Deer Block" and bags with "Deer Feed" on it. Why even sell them in New York if they're illegal to use. I might as well buy it at my own risk if I use any of it since it should have "WARNING Using this prouduct as intended is illegal". Does anyone else have this cross their mind? Thanks Forest Hunter

How many deer does your family consume per year?
Forest Hunter replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
I got a doe last year. About half of it was turned into burger. 1/4 was roasts and the other 1/4 turned into venison steaks. We still have about a third of the burger we had. That's between my parents, me and my sister. -
Do you sharpen them after you shoot them or no? I am afraid to shoot them because I'm not sure how to sharpen them afterwards if I miss or something like that.

Man i hate bees too at night we put a garbage bag over it and close it quick. Then they end up drowning in the pond.

Ok. . . so who else is thinking about opening day 24/7?
Forest Hunter replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Looking at my trail camera pictures is on my mind the most. Right above actually hunting. -
When do you shoot a few broadheads to sight them for hunting? A few days before season or a week or two?
-
First bucks i have seen on the camera. I hope they stick around so i can have a buck under my belt. I am pretty sure that they are eating the crab apples from the tree just out of veiw. What do you think this is a patch of woods about a mile wide between two cow feilds. The cows and deer take the same route being lazy and taking the easiest path.

Very nice bear

Glen Del 3D target

I'm teaching my younger sister how to shoot a bow because she took her hunting courses and wants "to kill a drop down time buck". She is 12 years old and when she started shooting the arrows they were hitting it in the antlers, the back end, the plastic legs to eventually the vitals. She shoots at just over 35 pounds to make her hunting legal and I haven't seen her break an arrow on the target. -
Wow never thought of the chalk. I'm gonna try that and when I put the arrow on the rest it angles downward to the ground. Not much but it is noticable. When I go to full draw it is very straight. I'm not sure if the mock should have the arrow straight at all times or not. I mean my arrows I shot before would work fine but I got new ones with 4 inch straight vanes instead of 3 and they all ripped for some reason. I don't think they are hitting the sight because I measured one of the fletches to be 3/4 an inch high. The 3 inch and 4 inch vanes are both 3/4 an inch. I think it is either my nock or my sight.
