Carrying Crossbow/compound bow simultaneously
Culvercreek hunt club replied to chrisw's topic in Bow Hunting
It does. I did not go looking for the other thread until almost through this. But. My point was, absent a dead deer or an officer witnessing a shot at a deer, someone please tell me the section of environment law that was broken. Before anymore folks chime in about is being in ML season so it is a firearm. Look at the definitions of a firearm for environment law and tell me if you honestly think it matches. I am not asking a lot. Just a section for the violation -

To me the email establishes the intent to deer hunt. I see that. I'd like to see an email sent asking if you can carry a bow and a crossbow to hunt turkeys or small game. I'd be curious that response. I'll send it tomorrow. -

It is spelled out that you can't. But in all honesty if someone wanted to carry a shotgun with birdshot and a bow I don't think the law should stop them. But it does. It specifically excludes a firearm. -

It really doesn't impact me one way or another. Not something I would do if it was in black and white that I could. I am really more interested in what they are suing to base their answers on. I would love to see what section they are citing. The link I posted is FULL text ENV law. It is good to have for reference. Chris, would you be willing to share exactly how the question was posed? I can see an answer like they did if the question was could you hunt deer with your compound while turkey hunting with your corssbow. was that comment in quotes exactly how you posed it? -

They can interpret the laws as they wish. They can only write the tickets. They don't' convict. And Junior, don't try to get in a battle of wits, you are unarmed. I'd love for you to cite one post that was inaccurate that I made? I have no idea about the other posts they were referencing but there is nothing in the current regulations that should stop anyone from carrying a LEGAL implement during a LEGAL open season. -

That was my point in all of this really. it isn't regulated currently -

In all seriousness though I think they would be hard pressed with the way the current regulations are written. I doubt they will rewrite anything though becasue of the full inclusion that will take this issue away. -

Facts are great. I LOVE facts. What "facts" would a DEC officer be using to write that ticket? -

I'm all about following the laws and I know that most the Encon are good folks that try. But they are not infallible. -

That is another discussion I got into with an ill informed Encon office. -

Don't get riled. I am having a conversation. I have run across more than one officer that didn't know their ass from their elbow. I got in an argument with one two years ago up north that was giving me crap for no back tag and he wan't buying that it wasn't required in the NZ. It wasn't until we drove down the road further to get service on my phone that I proved it to him and he didn't even apologize for his attitude. They are BOTH legal implements in the woods for turkey and there is NO WAY they could get a conviction for you having both. it isn't like having a shotgun loaded with slugs that has no other purpose than deer and there are specific regulation banning them. . I wouldn't carry both anyway but would love to see that fight. NOWHERE in the NYS Environment law list carrying these would be presumptive evidence that you are deer hunting so I don't get where they are pulling this out of. Oh, And if DEC is ticketing anyone for this they are accusing the person of being a poacher. -

so if you don't have a deer tag but do have a turkey tag and are out with a bow during turkey, you must be a poacher trying to take deer? -

what is the action that makes us a deer hunter vs a turkey hunter? If you aren't in possession of a deer carcass tag would that suffice? -

They aren't idiots, they also don't have ESP. I know guys that hunt with a bow and a shotgun for turkeys in the spring. carry both to a blind. so what magical action of having any of the three listed would make you a deer hunter vs a turkey hunter? -

I could see that they could ticket you once you did "actively pursue a deer. ie shot at one or actually took one. Since both the bow and crossbow are legal implements for taking turkey it would seem you could walk into the woods with a bow, crossbow and a shotgun loaded with shot and crawl into a blind to call turkey if you wanted. -

I've always just placed my index finger at the tip with the blade and palm facing up and opens just like a zipper is installed. -

wish I could hit the like button a bunch on this. It blows my mind what some guys think they need for a knife to do this. -

I really only use two knives from field to freezer. I have a 4" narrow blade sheath knife. That guts, skins and debones everything, I trim and cut up with ab 8" fillet knife. The sheath knife is antler handle and full tang. Not sure of the manufacturer but holds an edge very well. -
To me "retrieval right" mean you call before you go. I have had land owners that wished to accompany me and that is fine. I liked how that worked becasue there were no surprises on either side. Treat it like a business. It isn't personal .

Well the major work is done. I still have touch up paint, outlet covers (when she finally picks them out), build the doors for the back side of the bar and waiting on the area rugs to come in. Finished the flexible track lighting at about 9:30 last night. NOW maybe I can get some treestand time...lol
