  1. I know of 3 guys that will be carrying a crossbow tomorrow for the first time. How will your bowhunting experience change becasue of it? Two of us would have been in the woods anyway, one is new to this time of year. Will even the adjacent landowners next to us notice any difference?
  2. I have an above average crossbow that I will be carrying tomorrow for the first time. even with all the technology it still seems loud as hell to me compared to my compound. I wish I had a decibel meter. I have take deer at 45 and 46 yards on occasion but I don't think I would push this crossbow out past 40.
  3. Oh mine meets it. I find it odd that you considered the manufactures as being misguided for manufacturing bows that did t meet NY’s restrictions. Actually I see them as making good business decisions to not consider NY since it is the only or very few states that have maximum poundage or minimum width
  4. Worked construction and started out as a Surveyor. Worked my way to Foreman and then Superintendent and Project Manager. Worked for some large companies and ran projects over $60 million. I've had over 140 craft under my direct supervision but the travel sucked. Gotta go to where the projects are being built. I have run an Estimating department and now handle along the company's labor along the east coast. There is a HUGE market (and shortage)for skilled trades right now and I don't see it gettign any better in the next 20 years. I deal mainly with fitters, plumbers and pipe welders. I hire apprentices right out of high school. in MD it's $17 and hour to start and we pay the books and tuition for school. Pay raises every 6 months and at the end of 4 years (22 years old) you are making $70,000 a year not counting over time. in another year if you are on top of your game you pick up another $4 bump. $80,000 at 23 years old. And you know what? I can't get them to show up for work. But that is another story. If you want to travel and be a shutdown whore you can easily make 100k-140k a year.
  5. They are still going to do the same thing to get the extra tag. I know bow hunters that buy a ML license every year and don't even own a ML
  6. I just checked every state that the map posted earlier shows full inclusion. I see power stroke Minimum requirements and draw poundage minimum requirements (all of which a all modern crossbows meet. Unless you can find something that differs from what I have read, NO OTHER STATE with inclusion has a width restriction or a maximum draw weight that I can find. What states have restrictions that would make these crossbows illegal to use?
  7. I guess Glock, Smith and Wesson, Beretta and the others are just as short sighted becasue they produce pistol magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. I haven't compared all the states where crossbows are legal for their spec requirements, (I am betting you haven't either), but out of curiosity, I will be.
  8. I can' remember us being the same. party permits were every couple years or 3 depending on where. 2-4 guys on a permit. If you bow hunted that deer went on your regular season tag I think. Could be either sex but if you took one and no party permit you were done hunting. Edit: and let me add- This is why I just chuckle to myself when I hear how bad our hunting is now..lmao
  9. I don't think so . It's only the one from 2012-2013 that is no longer valid.
  10. It's been years since I hunted 8C but back then you could use you antlerless or either sex tag on a doe and they would give you another either sex. As long as you kept filling it with does you got a new one. if you shot a buck you were done. Had to take head and tag to regional office.
  11. I think I remember hearing there wasn't a limit. As long as you keep filling them and sending them in they keep sending new ones.
  12. Nice and quiet but if there is a burdock or burr within 3 miles of you it will find it's way on it.
  13. Honestly if you sent in an email asking them what they like in their coffee we would be having a similar head scratch over the response. One thing I have seen get worse over the years, is people can't write, and certainly not clearly. lol
  14. There are some great knowledgeable guys on here. They will help. What is your draw length?
  15. http://quigleyford.com/ These guys actually take the load and rifle specific data and do custom BDC for the combination. Pretty darn good glass based on the ones I have looked through. Caliber, Grain, Ballistic Coefficient, actual muzzle velocity are provided and custom etched
  16. As far as the "opinion" part. Since it is NOT written in the regulations or laws clearly it is Opinion of the ENCON officer as well isn't it? This isn't some person working at the local license counter that is answering this. The question was sent in, passed to a person that was tasked with answering it. They appear to have don'e some research and responded. This is official channels.
  17. probably not the best choice in the -08 but I think Federal loads 120 grain so you could work her up if you wanted. Although I can't imagine if she is shooting 20 ga slugs that any -08 round would bother her.
  18. What grain are you shooting out of the 243 right now?
  19. Didn't know that. Where is that defined and detailed?
  20. what does that mean? They aren't like a driver's license.
  21. I would check on the availability of weights and bullets in the factory rounds (if you don't reload). I would bet it would be about a was on felt recoil in identically set up guns. If she is recoil sensitive you may want to really pay more attention to the platform you are putting her in. toss any of those rounds in a light frame and ill fitting gun and she will feel more recoil. If she doesn't want as much recoil I might suggest a semi-auto. They are lighter shooting
  22. Take those with a grain of salt unless you can see what grain bolt they are getting those ratings with. I know the killer Instincts they use a 400 grain set up.
  23. IMO if you line up the 3 that you listed, the other two are based on the -06 case. In our hunting ranges I can't see the burning of additional powder or additional recoil for any addition of terminal ballistics. I would go with the -08.
