I spray the dryer down with field spray and wipe it out and obviously clean the lint trap well. I also keep my hunting clothing separated from my dogs and stuff, and I spray myself down, but I am not totally obsessed. I agree that deer respond differently to scents, I would say the main reason is based on their experiences with those scent memories. This leads me to believe (and when I hunt in Jersey it plays out this way), that deer from more populated suburban areas like Bestchester and LI pay less attention to human scent because they are more accustomed to it. Agriculture deer are accustomed to farm equipment and haybales, City deer are accustomed to people and dogs and cars, Deer that live in big woods tracts usually only associate human smells with danger, so I will continue to use scent control products at what I consider a reasonable level.

You titled this thread rage 2 blade vs reapers...did you want everyone to just hate rage with you? You started your rage hate thread off telling tall tales of double lunged deer running over a thousand yards. I never used reapers didn't say anything bad about them or any other broadhead. Just posted documented evidence supporting my claims. As far as the kid and fp, I didn't expect you to arrest him, I also didn't expect a cop to brag about the shot placement of an illegal kill he knew about on a public forum. Nor admit he didn't actually know the code. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is it within the framework of the board rules to say go penetrate yourself with whichever broadhead you prefer.I got plenty of support about what a troll you are so ill stick around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hey hater troll, again i did get off topic but only questioned its legality...it is not clear in the dec regs so I asked while I researched. I only cited pa regs as a baseline for my question, not that it applied in New York. Meanwhile you jump on every thread rarely actually commenting on the op and throwing your opinions around like the word of god...keep jerkin to trolling...I'll keep hunting. I harvested 6 deer before posting on this site again after being trolled out by belo last season...thought maybe things changed so I came back...thanks for making me realize what a mistake that was.. Hey I know when I get addressed by you to put the thread down. Find someone else to troll. I'm still the only one who backed up anything I said about the OP topic with documented evidence and when I needed clarification on a reg i contacted dec. If anyone has info and is refusing to share it what is the point of this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you have a Doe Tag, are you going to use it opening day or wait?

i hunt 7j and 7f exclusively oct-dec.There are plenty of deer, but I have had low amount of sightings this season as well...I've been lucky to get and execute on good opportunities. The facts is this is the best bumper year for hard and soft mast some are saying in ny history. Couple that with thousands of acres of standing corn still in our region and a late rutt these deer have had little reason to move yet. That ought to change with the pick up of rutt and hunting pressure. You'll get it done...pm me for a couple little known county parcels in 7j. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Read the whole debate, Someone actually did shoot a deer with a fp, not me. It was cop bragging about some kid so I thought that was odd knowing you certainly can't shoot a deer with a field point. I never said I knew the reg, I immediately looked it up and asked for a link if it was handy since everyone was so sure. It is illegal in pa, so it's not some baseless notion. I contacted dec and the first person didn't know until they got an officer who did, so it's not exactly clear. Then I posted the correct info....I still think its unethical because lots of mistakes happen in the field, carrying different arrows increases those odds. But thats my own opinion. It's legal so do it if you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's seems odd that the overwhelming majority go with old school tradition over the findings of the last 30 yrs of research in whitetail ecology. Wildlife biologists say Early and often to fill tags and INCREASE the number of healthy mature bucks on their feet in daylight hours. It appears as if some prefer a doe on a windshield to one legally tagged by a hunter...it all seems like a waste of money and tags. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Filled 3 antlerless tags already and filled my archery buck tag last...still have my wife's 2 dmps and my reg tag which can be used for does in MZ. Here is a link to QDMA's five reason to shoot does early and often: http://www.qdma.com/articles/5-reasons-to-take-does-early From the article concerning spooking bucks: What About Spooking Bucks? The number one reason that many hunters delay harvesting does is because we fear that if we shoot a doe with our bow or gun, the imaginary buck that might be following will vanish. Many hunters can tell stories of seeing or harvesting mature bucks while a doe is already down near their stand, but the more important consideration is the long-term effect on your buck-harvest opportunities. Over the long haul, balancing the population with the habitat will increase resources for the young bucks that you pass, including food and cover, allowing them to better express their body and antler potential. Also, balancing the sex ratio will intensify breeding competition, making these healthier bucks more visible during the rut. These long-term benefits far outweight any short-term disadvantage like spooking bucks, even if it really happens. I shot a doe last year 13 days after I had already harvest my Reg Season buck on the opener from the same stand. She had a buck on her and he didn't leave for a few minutes, could have doulbed if I had the tag. -

3 Days left in Early...you can still do it! -

QDMA suggests killing does early and often for the following reasons: 1. Deer management means killing does to balance the heard or more often to just reduce numbers. No matter what your goals are unless you need more deer (which is not the case most places in New York) shoot does. 2. Mature does kick yearling bucks to a new range...if the lead does are already dead, young bucks stick around 3. The fewer does the greater the competition for the remaining does during rutt, thus more mature buck activity. 4. Easier to determine buttons from mature does early on, as the season moves on the buttons get to be about the same size as the does meaning more mistaken buttons...though harvesting buttons is also part of the state's deer management plan. 5. Live Practice is the Best Practice for when the big boy shows up. 6. It is harder to harvest ANY deer as the season progresses. -
Sounds like an elephant stopper.

For a monster like in your avatar I would say...are they 2 blade or 3 and what weight arrow/FOC for such a beast?
-
True, and it was an end of archery round up where I was openly evaluating my mistakes and what I needed to work on, namely getting my distances down from the treestand. People post stuff here for looking for help, again I moved here 6 years ago and have taught myself how to archery hunt, and become a much better deer hunter in general. I came upon this site when I was trying to learn, it has helped, but I think I do better when I leave it to the Live from the Stand and Harvest Report Threads...Everywhere else is open season for Haters... Which brings me to you belo, you seem to know a pretty good amount of info, but you convey it often in an abrasive way (which we all do from time to time, me probably more than others). I only shoot what my family can eat too, but that includes my extended family and this year my grandfather who usually harvest 3 or 4 himself has cancer and can not hunt. I'm gonna get myself into another battle I don't want, I'm gonna try to keep to the Live thread and Harvest thread.

If anyone ever saw Aporkalypse with the copter hog huntin, that sure did look fun. That's invasive species removal though, not hunting, there's even a pigman disclaimer at the beginning.

I never said I knew the legality for sure, only how it worked in PA. Once I got the DEC to answer it I posted the legit info. Not nearly as helpful as the tips I received like "Go Look it Up Yourself" as if I wasn't already. I still think it's unethical for the same scenario that G&RCop conveyed, the ease of accidently nocking the wrong arrow in the dark or in the heat of the moment, but those ethics like all are defined by me and confined to me. I never failed to see your logic, meanwhile I was trashed for mine, yeah well, message boards.

Again, alot of talk about what works and what doesn't...all I can do is SHOW you pictures to go with my stories: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/19886-rage-2-blade-vs-grim-reaper-3-blade/?p=257932 http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/19672-rage-2-blade-entry-wounds/?p=254182

My point was that you can't use the same firearm on a deer and squirrel in the same season and you can't carry field and water loads while bird hunting. But I am wrong about the legality...so shoot all the tree rats you can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I talked to DEC in Cortland it is legal to carry in your quiver. She emphasized it is definitely illegal to nock one or fire at a deer...which goes back to my ethics delima, so I just won't carry them, to each his own. Sorry squirrels I tried...and the occasional deer. Oh yeah +1 on the rage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Okay I disagree about the principles but you are probably right about the legality. Can you atleast see that a state agency uses that logic in PA. Even if you disagree with it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Hyperbole. Again there is precedent for this I'm not making it up... You cant shoot squirrels with your rifle or slug gun during deer season you can't hunt migratory gamebirds and carry lead shot with you. Same principles apply. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
That's one interpretation, another would be Including the field point in your quiver because you might get bored and want to shoot squirrels and then accidentally grab it and shoot a deer makes including it in the deer hunt unethical. We haven't even mentioned the desperate slob with one bolt left when the big boy shows up, and it's tipped with a judo. Aren't these the people we write laws for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
