  1. Get the hell over it.... If you cannot afford it do not complain about it. I have friends who have built many of these on their land and spend 1 or 2 days out there with their children. All of you who oppose the idea, then get your ass out of your tree stand and hunt on the ground. then you will have more reasons to blame for your lack of skill....oppps my bad I meant to say your lack of luck. If you are not seeing deer, you might be doing something wrong, but probably not. it has to be someone else's fault. Tree blinds and tree stands are the same.
  2. That is absolutely incredible. Your pics are amazing, and the bird just looks awesome. Good luck. I look forward to your updates and more pics.
  3. Wow... you guys are absolutely ridiculous! I saw this the other day when it was first posted and figured I would let it go, but now it's just crazy. What is the difference between shooting a deer @ 200yds with a gun, 30yds with a bow, or inches with a knife? Remember, some of you have to sit hours or go back the next day to wait for your deer to die, how in the world is that quick or humane? Cutting a throat, when done right ends the life in a minute. I have done it, and I will continue to do it. It is not a big deal... in reality it is killing. Isn't that what we are all trying to do while hunting, or do we want to pet the deer and sing songs with it. either way we all share the same goals - a dead deer and meat on the table. I don't like my meat running around the field or laying as yote bait. I will do what I must to dispatch a deer. Heck if I had to choke one out I might try that too, who knows. Damn guys we're just hunting deer, it's not combat.
  4. My thoughts exactly... You shoot in my direction while trespassing on my property. Hmm I feel my life is in danger and I resort to deadly force. My thoughts are that would equal a good hunt, I got a nice buck and and a unique vermin to mount.
  5. I would pass with the hope he would live a few more years to mature into a trophy buck with a lot of meat on him. With that said, hunt your hunt. I set my goals and they are my goals. Post like this tend to lead to arguments and debates over personal opinion. Opinions are like AH's we all have one and they stink...
  6. I have a Nikon Prostaff BDC on my ML and it has been fantastic. I was looking at Leopold Ultimate Slam. Both were very comparable, but prostaff was almost $100 cheaper. Nikon also has the Spot-On site that will match your round to the drop for you and it is very accurate. Dropped a doe last year at 173 yds. The scope is great! I would be careful about having Dicks bore sight it for you. When I bought my Vortek Ultralight this year I had them mount my Prostaff and they had it all screwed up. It took me 8 shots just to get on paper, then 3 more to be dead on at 110. I have always done it my self and will continue to do so for now on.
  7. That is a fantastic buck. WOW!
  8. I hunt for the bigger bucks for the challenge, and the bigger the deer (doe or buck) the more meat. I set specific goals this season to challenge my abilities and it has paid off. I have shot the biggest buck in my life, which scored in at 183. I didn't have a complete idea of just how big he was until the rack was scored. I never had paid attention to the numbers. I have 3 8pt racks I may score myself just for gp, but not too concerned about it. The bonus for me was the 110 lbs of meat in my freezer form him. I highly doubt I will have another opportunity like that again, but I will continue to push my skills for the chance. My main goal for big bucks is big meat. If someone wants to shoot bucks for the antlers that is fine, others who may shoot bucks to shot them that is fine too. Hunt to your abilities and have fun. Not everyone has the opportunities or the land to focus on big bucks, their concern may be food for their family. I know I cannot eat antlers, but 14 points look pretty damn cool. There are a few other big guys I am looking for throughout gun and ML season too. We'll see. Good luck to all and get yours how you can (legally).
  9. Nice. Where did you find that statistic? Semper Fi, Happy Birthday!
  10. I use a map / alcohol pen. They write in any weather and on any surface.
  11. That is absolutely ridiculous. No excuses.
  12. That is absolutely fantastic!!! Congrats to both of you. That will be a trophy buck to your friend no matter the size.
  13. Just as you get frustrated with bow hunters, I get frustrated with the gun hunters who "spray and pray", and hit everything except the deer that ran right in front of them. What sense does it make to fire 6 rounds in a attempt to put down a deer. I bow hut because it takes great skill and you have only one shot. I gun hunt with a ML because you only get one shot. That is how it is where I come from - One shot one kill. Trying to draw a line between bow hunters and gun hunters is absolutely retarded! If you are jealous of the nice bucks we get to shoot during bow season then get off your ass and put the time in the trees, or better yet do it on the ground and really hunt the deer! Until then you are no different from anyone else. 308 When you stalk and drop a buck like this on the ground (gun or bow) then give a call! Until then take your mamby pamby sensitive ass somewhere else. The best thing I like about bow season is that I have 3 deer already. How many do you have?
  14. Congrats! The ground hunting is such a rush. I am having a hard time sitting in the trees since I started still hunting. Both my deer this year have been on the ground.
  15. A big help for me is to take a couple of extra deep breaths before I release. As soon as I see a deer within range I will begin to take slow deep breaths to counter the rush. I will release on a complete exhale, this is when your body will be most relaxed. Try to keep your muscles relaxed while you are sitting as well. The more movement and activity uses more oxygen and in turn raises your heartbeat. As for target selection once I decide to shoot the only area I pay attention to is exactly where I want to shoot. "Aim small miss small."
  16. I do not think it would be wrong for you to start charging for your services. With that said i would love to have you come up to Genesee county and evaluate the farm I started hunting on this year. I took the 14 point buck last week out there. It is about 110 acres, and only hunted by 5 to 7 hunters on an occasional basis. They have asked me and I have given a little advise. But with that said. You have been providing this service for a number of years without charging. That shows your heart is providing the service, not the money. What ever choice you make will be the right choice. Good luck, and let me know if you are up this way.

    217lb Brute

That thing is a SLOB!!!! Very nice.
  18. I was on the ground hunting the edge of a small secluded field, and it was just before dusk when this guy busted out into the field. He had his face to the ground in-search of a doe. I ranged him at 35 yards, and waited for him to come into my shooting lane. The rest is in the picture. To think I almost didn't go out for the evening hunt. 14 points, Green scored 183 3/8 and dressed out at 210.
