  1. Nice mount! The trophy room looks great! I would be very concerned about a mount that took over 2 years though. That should be up on the wall.
  2. To those of you pointing at us youngsters, why didn't you learn from his father? The family name is a scam!!! This is a CYA for his foolish SAFE ACT. He thinks NY sportsmen are dumb rednecks, and we will be happy with saving a dollar here and a dollar there. The dude is a Jack-Wagon just like his father. Unfortunately, our Federal Government is a Federal Republic, which is a direct representation of the public majority. If you are angry with the government, do your part to become the majority. "Government is a direct representation of the people"
  3. I would recommend Anthony Scorza in East Rochester. I know many who only use him, and they have had great results. He has been around forever. He did my mount last year, I dropped it off this time last year and had it back mid January. He charges more than others, but I will not go anywhere else. It is worth the money. Good luck on your choice, and hope you get a great mount.
  4. Semper Fi brother. I have been back in NY for a few year hunting around Rochester. If you ever come up this way give me a shout. I have some good spots I would be happy to share with a fellow Devil Dog. My tips are read about hunting deer, educate yourself, and use your infantry skills. They will carry you along way. Sitting in a tree stand is similar to an ambush. Still hunting are stalking are similar to movement to contact. The predictable thing about deer is that they are unpredictable. I wish you the best of luck, share your stories!!
  5. I always knew you X-bowers were a bunch of freaks!!!
  6. I think I can relate a little bit to every answer so far, but let me see if I can explain another one of my reasons in a manner that can be understood. The thrill of the hunt fills a hole in my soul that has been quenched only through combat. Stalking a deer or still hunting is just as patrolling to an objective. Setting up in a tree stand or blind is just as setting in an ambush. The thrill and adrenaline is immeasurable for me. However, that is where the similarities stop. I do not hunt out of hatred or anger for the “enemy”, plus deer do not shoot back. I do hunt to provide food for my family, the camaraderie, and the solitude of yourself and nature. At times, it is just as rewarding to become a part of the environment as it is to harvest a deer. I have had birds land on me and squirrels run over me while sitting in stand. No matter how cold it gets, it is always awesome to be out in the woods. For a combat vet, hunting and being in the woods is the most therapeutic remedy to date! Plus, deer taste way better than Al Qaeda…I’m just saying.
  7. I love the smell of napalm in the morning...
  8. Soooo...how do you score that?
  9. Lowes and Home Depot carry various brands, but I do not know how well they work. We use Techniseal Ploymeric sand on all of our jobs. Here is the link to their web site if you want to check them out. I just know theirs work the best. They also offer cleaning products and sealers. http://www.techniseal.com/web/new_niveau2A_sand.php?pl=1&type=h&sr=us_en/&surface=32
  10. By the way, you have a very nice patio!
  11. To keep the moss and weeds from growing in the joints you can use Polymeric sand. In your case you would have to clean out the joints with the pressure washer, and sweep the poly sand into them. It is best to sweep in once, use a plate tamper with a rubber pad, and sweep a second time. Then blow off the excess with a leaf blower, and lightly spray down with water. Once dried, the sand will harden keeping weeds from growing and water seeping under the pavers. It works great and lasts for years. Just a suggestion The biggest caution before putting down ploy sand it to make sure the entire surface is dry or the sand will leave a residue on the pavers. .
  12. I would purposely go to their line with my ribs, bacon, and beer and give them a nice happy smile. We all have to deal with inconveniences everyday. Suck it up and drive on. This country has become too damn sensitive. If for some reason I chose a job that went against some belief of mine I would find another job or deal with it. It is not that difficult...
  13. Man, that is such a great solution. Now we just have to figure out how to implement it. You can't fix stupid.
  14. Sounds like it was a great time. Would have loved to make it, but Rochester is a bit of a drive. Would be interested in seeing if we could try for something similar upstate. From the pics, looks like a great facility. Definitely sounds like a good day...
  15. I agree with many of you here. I quit smoking 6 years ago because I wanted to. No commercial convinced me to quit. My question is why did they pull the obesity commercials when people complained about them being graphic? Being fat kills you quicker than smoking, but that is a sensitive subject...shh, don't say fat, you might hurt someone's feelings.
  16. My first ML was a Traditions Pursuit; I had a Nikon Prostaff BDC mounted and that was dead-on out to 135yds (confirmed). With T/C 250 gr. Shock-waves and 100 gr. White Hots. At times I wish I had kept it. I think you could get the set up for $300 - $400. i am starting from scratch with Vortek Ultra-light,
  17. I don't know world records, but that thing is absolutely ridiculous!!!! Holy crap!
  18. Ok, so I have developed the habit of dong things backwards in life. I have joined this forum/club because I shot a big deer this past season, and I wasn’t sure what to do with it. As I was looking for blogs or clubs, this one popped-up. I am an informal type of person, so I skipped this part. I am a 12 year veteran of the US Marine Corps. I have served multiple tours over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Living in NC for so many years I gave up on shooting at “dogs” or what they call deer. This past season (2011) was my third season home back in NY, and truly hunting. I love all aspects of hunting and continue to challenge my skills, and try to learn as much as possible. I love to hunt deer, not ambush them.
  19. My apologies to all of you for my psychotic rant. The wife has finally let me out of my cage on the condition I will play nice with others, and stick to my medication regimen; ( no seriously). My rant was a culmination of dealing with outside idiots, and had nothing to do with anyone on this site personally attacking me. I had suffered through some “war stories” of guys who had been a part of "big buck clubs", and attended various "conferences", and unfortunately I bought into their whining and crying. I was searching through the forums looking for support of my thoughts, versus the idiots I had ran into throughout the day (on that specific day) to dissipate the negativity I encountered. Needless to say I ran into a lot of “stinky” opinions, and mine has been the slinkiest of them all. I truly apologize to the women who are members of this site for my foul language. As some of you posted, I received nothing but praise for my buck this year, and yes that was my first post. I did not know there were communities like this around, and I had stumbled upon this one trying to find out information about the deer I shot. So, to those of you I may have offended, I apologize. To those who side with me, I have some good prescriptions that may help your psychosis. To everybody else I thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to becoming a positive member of this community. PS. I will introduce myself properly in the introductions. O Yeah, thanks for calling me out Dave 6x6….
  20. You guys should look into masonry heaters. You can heat your house with about 3 face cords of wood a year ( aprox. $250) by burning only 2 fires a day. Check out empiremasonryheaters.com they are the most efficient and cleanest burning.
  21. Because that is how everyone here pisses and moans about every other success story. God forbid someone harvests a 16, 18, 20 , or 22 point buck. The shooter must provide a DNA sample in order to justify their success. You want want proof on my kill (14 point, 183 4/8, 210lbs)....Guess what???? Kiss it! What is wrong with celebrating with those who harvest amazing deer? Shut the hell up and celebrate with them! If you cannot shoot them...join them! Plus it will be interesting to see who has the balls and integrity to fess up to their sensitive-ass whining and crying.
  22. To those of you who are too lazy; here is my response and post....Well, I will try to post this wherever I can. I joined this forum to share stories and celebrate harvests with fellow hunters. Sadly to my dismay I was severely misinterpreted by the ideology of this website. Everywhere a hunter has attempted to post his/her success, there has been the usual suspects who attempt to assassinate their character based upon their success. I am not a professional hunter and I do not hunt for bone only. I hunt deer to feed my family period! A doe or 14 point buck will both feed my family. Unfortunately, many of the post here lead to a cock fight of mine is bigger than yours, which is completely stupid. I shot a big buck this year and I will be going to many conventions and dinners because of the animal I shot. I know it will be a cock fest and I will probably not go because of that reason. I have come to learn that many of you hunters in New York State are some uppity self-bias bone chasers. GOD forbid someone harvest a deer larger that is larger than you may ever see. If they have, it does not mean the deer was illegally taken. The amount of time you spend on this web-site leads me to believe you spend more time on this site then in the woods. Do not blame others for your shortcoming. Get your ass out into the woods and HUNT! Quit expecting the deer to owe your punk-ass something. They don’t, and every other hunter does not either. If you do not like it then change your game!!!!
