An old man was asked: ' At your ripe age, what would you prefer to get, Parkinson's or Alzheimer's?" The wise one answered, "Definitely Parkinson's. Better to spill half an ounce of Bourbon than to forget where you keep the bottle"

Looking to get a shotgun barrel rifled.
Mr VJP replied to thunnus's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I once had a SXS 12 gauge that was cut down to 24" barrels, giving it open chokes and just happened to shoot full size slugs very well. It put both slugs inside a 6" circle @ 50 yards. It had double triggers, a peep sight on the rear and a bead on the front. Using Federal Tru-ball slugs improved the group to 4" @ 50 yards. Shooting it at 100 yards opened it up to being able to reliably hit a paper plate with either barrel about 75% of the time. It was not something I used for deer hunting even though that is what it was made to do. Cutting rifling into an existing smooth bore barrel is not done, because the walls of the barrel are too thin to allow it to be done safely. -
I wonder if they hunt on their land?
Mr VJP replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The group does exist on land outside of Hancock, NY and have been well known for years. The question is why are they allowed to do what they do with impunity? -
I wonder if they hunt, are licensed, if game laws are enforced, if they use banned black rifles on their land and why nobody is doing anything about this place before they go off. Cuomo says conservatives and gun owners don't belong in NY. Do these people belong there Andy? http://headlinedigest.com/2014/09/americas-first-islamic-government-a-muslim-only-city-state-on-american-soil/

As well as the rifle itself I hope. LOL!

Joe, he said x54, not x39. Big difference. As far as owning a firearm in 7.62x39, if the rifle you want is only chambered for that round, as is the Mini 30, (since Ruger never released the XGI in .308) it happens to be a perfectly acceptable combination. And after you already own most of the other chamberings one would consider for deer hunting, it just adds more variety to your battery.

Fired from an all American Ruger Mini-30, one can take comfort in the realization it has been conquered and now submits to our will. LOL!
-
Plus the fact, compared to the 5.56 bullet, it's better for deer hunting.

Joe You do realize NY State is the 2nd closest thing to a communist state (after CA) in America, right?

Interesting article regarding background checks vs Constitutional rights. By Donald L Cline: In 1993, a federal law was passed for the stated purpose of preventing our reducing access by criminals and the mentally ill to firearms. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 instituted, for the first time in our history, a compelled interrogation under penalty of perjury and a search of a citizen’s private papers and effects on public record as a precondition to receiving (or being denied) permission to exercise a fundamental right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. #The purchase of a firearm is not probable cause of criminal conduct, yet this interrogation and search is compelled in violation of our Fourth Amendment right to be secure from search in the absence of probable cause of criminal conduct. #A compelled written interrogation under penalty of perjury and a compelled search of otherwise private records on public databases is not due process, yet this interrogation and search is compelled in violation of our Fifth Amendment right to be secure from deprivation of rights in the absence of due process. #The authority to violate our rights is not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States, and is prohibited to the states, by the 10th Amendment. #No criminal, and no mentally ill person, has ever been prevented from committing a crime by this egregious government violation of our fundamental rights. This law was never intended to reduce access to firearms by the criminal or the mentally ill and its backers knew it would not accomplish this objective. However, it does accomplish another objective dear to their hearts: It renders moot our constitutional rights under the Fourth, Fifth, 10th, and ultimately Second, Amendments. #We, the people, were suckered into supporting the above law and now its chickens are coming home to roost: The anti-rights factions that supported that above law have now managed to get an initiative passed in the state of Washington requiring this background check through a dealer any time a firearm is handed from one individual to another, even for the temporary purpose of inspection or training. #Colorado already has such a law. The backers of the Washington initiative now have their sights set on Nevada, and Arizona and Maine are next. #Our rights under the U.S. Constitution are not subject to voter initiatives or unconstitutional fiat masquerading as law. #Background checks cannot be lawfully compelled as a precondition to receiving permission to exercise a right no government, at any level, has the authority to issue or withhold. #I urge all to examine these issues and our Constitution very carefully, and vote to ban all government interference in our fundamental and guaranteed rights. #Donald L. Cline

I'd still be a deer hunter. I Love Venison! But I might spend more time with my buddy in the Gulf of Mexico on his 35 foot Sea Ox chasing white marlin in November too.

What's frightening is the total removal of any right to self defense in France.

The '06 is a great round, but you don't always need it to shoot a deer. The 7.62x39 has a lot less recoil, which may help some hunters have better bullet placement, and it is far less expensive for plinking ammo. That means more practice with the rifle and better proficiency with it in the field. I own both, and consider them tools for hunting. It gives me more options as far as selecting the right tool for the job at hand. Why use a sledge hammer to drive carpet tacks? BTW, the 7mm Remington mag is an American cartridge.

Good semi auto rifle. Very dependable and virtually jam free. Add a good low power variable scope, like a 1.5 x 5 and a nice sling, ( I modified mine so it can accept detachable sling swivels ) and you have a very adaptable medium range deer rifle. Mine happens to have a nicely figured walnut stock and is stainless steel. It's a little heavy for mountain hunting, but it generally does well in the woods. P.S. Also a very good choice for the one rifle man. It will work well in any situation a medium power, medium range rifle would be required. Ten round mags are available for NY residents, but 30 round or more are made for those living in free America.

I use a Ruger Mini 30 sometimes. The round is about the ballistic equivalent of a .30-30 so it can take deer out to 200 yards with no worries. Just be sure to use good ammo like Remington or Federal with good soft point bullets of 125 grain or so.

Although not related to the thread's subject, the fact is, NY State DOES want to eliminate as many gun owners as it can, but has no current desire to eliminate deer farms. They certainly want the taxes they pay and don't want to kill any more businesses than they already have. However, I think wdswtr is making the point I've been trying to convey to people for years. The government is not your friend. Rule of Law has been corrupted by Rule of Men and I expect it to get much worse if citizens don't start to demand legislators uphold their oaths to support and defend the Constitution, of both the US and the States. I really doubt the citizens will rise to the cause though, as I see very little resistance to tyranny so far.

Marion Cuomo Dead @ 82
Mr VJP replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Well, I guess 45 years in the field, on 2 continents, in 15 different states, and no longer counting how many game animals I have taken makes me a troll then. Maybe someday, if you're capable, you may reach that level of troll too! Best of luck to you. -

Still have the NY place with all the land. Love to hunt there, just don't reside there anymore.
