  1. we do get general fund money to supplement the conservation fund,so when you look at the over all picture we pay twice, once when you buy your license's and when you pay your taxes, income and sales,on top of the excise tax on guns and ammo, other types of sporting equipment
  2. License dollars including the increase go to a dedicated fund, called the conservation fund also the new marine license is in a dedicated fund for the marine district which was being paid out of the conservation fund in the short period of time that it has been in effect it took in over $2 million dollars, you would be amazed as to what is in the conservation fund and the dept of budget will not release the funds, because of politcal reasons
  3. Go to the DEC web site and open the link to the CFAB,Conservation Fund Advisory Board, they are the group that oversees the expenditure of your license dollars and Pittman/Robinson moneys that come in from the voluntary tax on guns and ammo and other related purchases, there are also moneys that come in from fishing and boating related items, remember they are all volunteers that serve on that board and are dedicated
  4. drwost,I think that you are thinking about Sterling Forest a real big peice of land of rte 17 in orange county,I think in the town of Tuxedo, they have a $5:00 registration fee,as far as AR's in Putnam only one section in the NYCDEP lands has antler restrictions and it is posted so that you can't miss it,the rest of the county is open. I am pretty sure that you can get access permits for Sterling Forest and the NYCDEP on line
  5. If you are looking for places to hunt, don't over look the NYCDEP lands you can register on line for an access permit17,000 acres in Putnam and south eastern dutchess, use it or lose it,and thats on the east of hudson, there is plenty more west of the hudson,go on line and put in NYCDEP?access permit
  6. You want to know where the money is,Look at the marine license they got about 60 senators to vote to recind it,we have to hope that it fails in the assembly, check the hunting guide and see how much it's costing just for long Island,It took in lot of money in one year and it goes into a dedicated account like the life time license, only the interest is used, but in this down economy very little income
  7. go to your local town clerk or sporting goods store and check out the hunting guide
  8. the biggest problem is to get a legislator to carry the bill, they don't want the heat that will go with it
  9. Just in case some of you did not know the pheasant season has been extended,it goes from october 1 thru febuary 28,that is in the southern zone
  10. I do no think that they are illegal, just more chance of a ricochet and are better suited for the range with a good backstop,on small game they would probably pass right thru if you do not hit a major organ
  11. the problem is that we need longer seasons not shorter ones,What should it matter what we use as a hunting implement, also the minute the politicos start to manage what the dec is doing and how its doing it the more convoluted it becomes because all they want is to say how much they helped, long bow, recurve, crossbow compound or gun should not matter,we have to stick together, there is plenty of room for everyone out there all it takes is a little effort to find it together in this against the groups that want to see us gone and not argue with each other as to who has the most rights in the field,
  12. how sad that the people that do not want the crossbow are so out of touch with what is going on out there, there are a lot more than a few disabled hunters out there, when you watch the video of the econ meeting there was so much misinformation, from Marcelinio and the NYB,the chairman of the committee said that he received more favorable mail for the use of the crossbow,in the end we got a convoluted bill that took Westchester Co out and Suffolk also, probably the two countys that needed it the most
