  1. I've been striving to put a 10 point buck on my wall for 53 seasons now and have yet to do it. Yesterday, my BIL in PA sends me this pic of a deer 25 yards behind his house he photographed from his 2nd floor balcony. He sees lots of nice bucks near his home, which is out in the sticks. He doesn't hunt anymore. His place is 5 hours away. I'm seriously considering hunting PA next year when I have retired. I'm getting desperate.
  2. The term "brush gun" has been bastardized by hunters who never understood where it came from. The term was coined to describe a short, fast rifle that could get on target quickly when an animal jumped in thick cover at close range. It was never meant to mean a gun that would be able to shoot a bullet through brush without deflecting. As a matter of fact, the only round that was meant to be used for shooting through brush at game animals was a shot shell loaded with buckshot, which had some chance of getting a pellet or two in the animal when fired through thick brush. And even then, it was expected multiple shots would be fired at the animal before it would succumb to the pellets. I hunt by this creed, "Never shoot at an animal you think you can hit. Only shoot at an animal you know you can kill."
  3. Auction sale prices are what determine the value of an individual firearm that is rare. But those prices can be far above what the common version of that gun is worth. Still, auction sites do give a pretty good idea what current selling prices for certain types of firearms can be, because trends of demand for certain guns can start up very quickly.
  4. When I first started hunting in 1970, NJ only allowed buckshot for deer. Slugs weren't even legal.
  5. New Jersey Pine Barron’s district warden Harry Loveless & Deputy Michael Bobera with a whitetail buck & doe circa 1920.
  6. You can look on a couple of online gun seller sites like Gunbroker.com and Auction Arms to get an idea what guns like yours are selling for.
  7. "If you shoot with an AR-15, let's say you shoot a deer, you can't eat it because you basically demolish the animal." —"The View" co-host Joy Behar
  8. But they keep on trying to find one, which, in my mind, makes them co-conspirators in the ruination of this country.

  10. I should also mention when you sell things on GB you are hitting the largest possible audience for guns and hunting stuff. You can literally expect thousands of people to see what you are selling, and that can only help you sell it fast and for the best possible price. I once sold a 10 round magazine for a bolt action Styer SSG 69 in .308 on GB. The rifles usually only have 5 round mags and this one came with the rifle when I bought it from a friend. Turns out they are rarer than hen's teeth and haven't been made for years. Anyone who was ever looking for one was probably feeling blessed to have found one for sale. It sold for $325 and it was made out of plastic. I have sold .325 WSM ammo on the site and gotten $80 per 20 round box and the buyers were thanking me with much gratitude because they couldn't find it anywhere else. GB is a tool that can work to your benefit, if you learn how to use it intelligently. I think taking the time to do so is well worth it.
  11. People are different. Many are always vigilant, while others prefer escape from stress. Many are proactive and many are reactive. That's why politics is such an issue among people. The people that want to be informed, aware and on guard, will always find resistance from those who chose to escape, avoid and deny what's happening. So, you're best off identifying like-minded people and working with them and not wasting time on those that choose to ignore reality and stay out of the fight. Eventually, as things get really bad, more people will choose to fight, but until then, they are insignificant to the cause. Let them be happy in their escapism, because they will be just as angry as the rest of us when their escapism is no longer possible. I just hope it isn't too late to fix it when that time comes.
  12. Inuit polar bear with longbow circa 1920
  13. I have bought and sold on GB hundreds of times over the last 10 or so years. Never had a really bad experience. Some sellers are jerks, but you can see that when you check their feedback prior to bidding. I've gotten some really good deals on guns, ammo and scopes on the site. Recently the law was changed so you have to pay sales tax on things you buy on the site now, which sucks. I bought some guns for thousands of dollars and was glad no sales tax was charged. But the govt eventually ends all good things. Ask a lot of questions prior to bidding to confirm what you're buying is what you want. If the price you bid plus shipping and tax is a good price for you, and you have determined the item is as the seller claims, you will be satisfied with the deal. GB is often the only place you will find a hard-to-find item too.
  14. It may be hard to believe, but America was once a place in which kids were given knives and guns as a reward for behaving themselves.
  15. This is why I despise anyone that votes for ANY Democrat. They simply ignore reality. https://patriotpost.us/opinion/101033?mailing_id=7822&utm_medium=email&utm_source=pp.email.7822&utm_campaign=digest&utm_content=body
