  1. Yup, its true the first year there is a sharp decline in buck harvest, obviously because of the lack of more mature bucks to take. After that first year or two its a different story.
  2. On my tablet, ill keep this brief. When there are no other options people took what they could get. Now there are options, trail cameras catching some monsters , friend and family harvesting bigger deer, that just did not exist 6 years ago. Now that hunters know what's out there and the potential of harvesting a mature or more mature buck exists, it creates excitement and one becomes more selective. I've come across many hunters old and new who were both for and against AR and now knowing what is out there has them convinced it works and renews their passion. I've heard the excuses in the past, ah if I don't shoot it, its hanging in my neighbors garage the next day, etc etc. So to answer your question, I'll guess I'll be the first, many more then likely did not "walk the talk". And those that were not supporters and or were the ones that did not "walk the talk" are now because they see we can have some pretty awesome mature deer in this state / this part of the state as well. 3. They already tell you what deer you can shoot. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
  4. But if they are examine the deer, a 1.5 is a 1.5 regardless of the number of points it has. Maybe I'm missing the point. But yes I agree other area's might have different situations where their 1.5 is a 6 pointer or whatever the case may be.
  5. Yeah I know, but if you look at the numbers, it hasn't gone down much if any elsewhere over time - the number flucate from year to year... Example 9Y 2010 was 70%, but in 2009 it was 50%... 6R 2009 was 65%, 2010 was 51%, 2011 was 60%(I just scanned through the numbers quick, so I could be off.)
  6. Yeah it was conveniently left out. The article also states that the yearling buck take has dropped "state wide", and leave out that the reason for that drop is because of AR's. Example in 3H - 2006 Yearing Buck take was 50% of all bucks, 2011 it was 17.3%. The same / similar percentages are mirrored across all of the AR areas and the take is spread across 2.5's and 3.5+ now... Now we are seeing bigger more mature bucks and an age structure that is more representative what the area should have.
  7. Nope, we aren't wrong. But AR's are not the end all be all, there many more pieces to the puzzle that the DEC needs to do in order to have a good deer management plan in place. AR's are better then doing nothing at all, especially in the area's it has already existed. The changes that have come as a result of the AR's are nothing short of amazing in 3H.
  8. Its not that confusing, the DEC and one biologist in particular is not for AR's and makes that quite apparent. Its a shame more research isnt done before posting these articles, I'd expect a little bit more from someone like that.
  9. And having no AR's in your area would help the buck to doe ratio how?
  10. What I don't get is how these pizza chains survive in NY.
  11. Ohhh come on you don't name some bucks on your property. I named a few of them, however, they are people I don't like
  12. Yeah, I'd see if you can either go in with a family member or seek other alternatives to your 401k. Unless its a temp loan you will pay back fast, you don't want to loose those potential earnings. There are always other opportunities.
  13. I wasn't questioning what a blowhard is but rather your use of it. Thanks for clearing up that your not even in an AR area.
  14. OK, so your admitting you poach? If thats not the case you should clear that up. Blowhard? Sent from my DROID RAZR
  15. I know this is a REALLY crappy picture. I was from my cell phone, with my 1 year old in my arms, through a window. You can barely make out the antlers if you zoom in a bit, but the body on this thing was huge. Pretty sure it was a basket 8. (one on the left)
  16. Looks like a potential 10 pointer, wonder if that other point will grow out a bit and be a little more pronounced.
  17. I'll text you when its down Oct 1st, and we can look at the teeth together.
  18. Good gut too! What throws me off a little is the neck, but thats not a good shot to see the neck.. The back / belly makes it look like a 4.5 to me, but I'm a newbie at guessing these ages.
