  1. Why do you need an outfitter? There is a ton of public land. Do some research and have at it.
  2. I doubt this will really have any impact, but I'm still going this year so a few less hunters doesn't bother me any.
  3. It's funny to me that when you start a thread on conservation issues it gets a couple replies, but someone starts the 100th crossbow thread or one on the new abortion laws in Arkansas and it goes on for pages. The conservation and access issues are what will truly impact the future of hunting in this state and the US in general, yet few seem to be interested.
  4. CO makes you pay for the entire tag upfront unlike other states and then refunds your money if you are not drawn or if you put in for a PP only. If you didn't buy a big game tag in CO last year then it will cost you $25 plus a $3 application fee. If you did buy a CO tag in the last year then you would only pay the $3 application fee. Basically you have a few hundred dollars hanging out there for a couple of months, but you will get it back. You can then choose to put your refund towards an OTC tag if you want. CO has several units with unlimited OTC tags available for elk, but your better units will be draw units which is why you need the PPs.
  5. I still need to put mine in. I'm putting in for an elk point and then hunting OTC. It's only about 5 months away now.
  6. Setting rules on your land that are within the bounds of the game laws is completely different then saying you own the deer that are on your land. But I think you know that. The game animals are in the public trust and we all share in that responsibility. So you can set whatever rules you want on your property, but once he wanders across the property boundary that land owner will have their own set of rules.
  7. Regardless of who's property it's on it belongs to all of us. However, you have the right to kill that animal if you follow all the rules set by the state. If we all set our own rules for the deer on our land it would be chaos.
  8. I know this has nothing to do with this thread, but I think it is worth noting. The game animals belong to the public. The state is just responsible for managing them within it's borders.
  9. I think crossbows would be voted down if only bowhunters voted. And I think it would be a landslide. The only people I know personally that support crossbows in archery are people that don't bow hunt and see crossbows as an easy way to get into it.
  10. Private companies wouldn't do what the post office does as far as delivering mail to rural areas because there is no money in it. The USPS is basically mandated to do things that cause them to lose money, yet they are required to be self sufficient and not use tax payer money. They definitely need an overhaul but the USPS is one of the few government agencies authorized by the US Constitution and until we can eliminate all mail delivery they will still be necessary. Just my $.02. And my comment on the X's was meant to be a joke.
  11. They probably got confused by all the X's in the tracking number.
  12. It would be tough to give up the convenience of my vest and the big cushy seat pad. Everything is organized and easy to get to. I also carry two decoys in the back pouch.
  13. I agree. If the issue is having too much money in the conservation fund then we should start spending more on conservation programs, not reduce license fees.
  14. The Beman ICS Bowhunters are a good arrow for the price and fly great out of my 45# Hoyt Buffalo. I bought a dozen shafts a year ago for $37.99 off ebay with free shipping and no tax. If you cut and fletch your own there are good deals out there. These are the first carbon arrows I've used and I plan to stick with them.
  15. "New York was also among the top five outbound states in the United Van Lines migration study." No surprise there.
  16. So what do you think Mike? I don't know anything about her, other than what I have heard on the news, and I haven't had a chance to look into it.
  17. He got a bargain. http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/field-notes/2012/02/ny-hunter-pays-300000-montana-bighorn-sheep-license
  18. "Pathological liar" and "politician" are interchangeable terms.
  19. I thought this was a pretty good read and gets to what we have been discussing here. http://www.outdoorlife.com/articles/hunting/bowhunting/gear-accessories/2009/04/crossbow-controversy
  20. You took that question way more serious then you needed to.
  21. Exactly. Wait... are you talking about the pro-crossbow or anti-crossbow people?
  22. If you could see me now, my face is straight. There are duck hunters all over where I hunt and duck hunters shoot a LOT. It's nothing to hear 50 shots just on morning watch. Goose season is just as bad, but that isn't during archery.
  23. My response to how would affect me is clearly stated in post #41. So if I remember right your example was, a rifle goes BANG and will ruin the nice quiet woods you want to enjoy. And a crossbow is quiet so it won't ruin your nice quiet woods. Wow. Apparently no one turkey hunts or duck hunts while you are crossbow hunting? Because I hear just as many gun shots during archery as regular season. But that is an excellent rant... you should be proud. Actually I shoot a compound too, although I haven't hunted with it the last two years. That comment was meant to be a joke, but you are clearly incapable of having an intelligent conversation.
  24. And Zhe Wiz... your argument for them still sucks.
