I respect the NRA for laying low on this because they realize how serious this is. That's more then I can say for your dumb ass comments.

JJB, I'm holding you personally responsible for the severe burning I have right now from the Jim Beam I just spit through my nose. Nice.

I thought maybe he had an inside track on when the zombie apocalypse was going to begin. -

What country are you living in? -
Really??? You think they are happy 20 children were killed because it helps some political agenda they might have? Do you also think Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld were high fiveing after 9/11 because it helped promote their pro-war agenda? Do you really think you are helping the cause by making stupid comments such as this?

Who cares if it's not the best time. It's an additional hour of hunting time. I see deer before and after legal shooting time quite often.
-
True. I read once that Whitetail deer are the most dangerous animal to hunt for that very reason.

Apparently I didn't understand your comment. But yes, I strictly hunt in the northern zone so I don't count.

Big difference where I hunt. The two weeks of archery before the lead starts flying is the only peace we get in the woods. I wish NY would follow a lot of other states and lengthen the archery season and shorten the firearms season, but I realize that will never happen. I love to rifle hunt as well, but I wish the archery only season was longer.
-
I can't say I'm a supporter of making it mandatory during any season, but if they were to require it during the firearms season I believe that should include muzzleloader season too. Unfortunately we have a firearms season (ML) during archery season.

The polar bear provision has nothing to do with hunting polar bears or the protection of polar bears. The provision would allow hunters to bring home as trophies 41 polar bears killed in Canada before the government started protecting polar bears as a threatened species. The polar bear provision would allow the hunters who killed polar bears in Canada just before a 2008 ban on polar bear trophy imports took effect to bring the hides and skulls across the border. The hunters involved were not able to bring the trophies home before the Fish and Wildlife Service listed them as a threatened species. Seeing as all these were legally hunted prior to the listing of the polar bears, I fully support this provision. -
There is really no reason to wear it during archery is probably why some people are opposed to it. When was the last time someone was accidentally shot with a bow during archery season? It is pretty tough to mistake your target during archery or not recognize what is behind it. I always wear it during rifle season because I don't trust any of the idiots hunting around me. Now if I was going to hunt with my bow during rifle season... I would wear orange.

I agree that the lead provision seems out of place and the only reason I can see it is in there is because the NRA lobbied heavily for it. I would have no problem with the lead provision being removed because all the positive aspects from my standpoint would remain. As for the TRCP and CFBD, it is tough to compare those two because they have completely different mission statements. The TRCP is to promote hunting and fishing opportunities for everyone. But I would have to dissagree that the TRCP is some sort of branch of the NRA or Republican party. They have come out against the republican party on many issues including the proposed sell off or public lands, opening of public lands for gas and oil drilling as well as mining, and their proposed reductions in conservation funding. -
I would say you are in the majority. It is absolutely ridiculous that the legal time in NY is sunrise to sunset when virtually every other state is 1/2 before to 1/2 hour after. If it is really a safety issue it would be sunrise to sunset in all states.

I'm not too optimistic that they will get to this before the end of the year, but the emails I get from TRCP.org indicate they continue to work on it. I see the Center for Biological Diversity has mounted a campaign against it. http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/campaigns/get_the_lead_out/index.html -
Anyone use a smart phone for the GPS feature???
d-bone20917 replied to Grizz1219's topic in General Hunting
No, it's not bad at all. The areas I hunt that require a GPS have no cell service so I just put my phone on airplane mode and turn the GPS on. The phone goes to sleep while it's in your pocket and I only wake it every so often to see where I am. It is a pretty slick app. If you are going to an area with no service you need to cache the maps of the areas ahead of time. I can get a weekend out of it no problem, I just turn the phone off completely when I get back to camp in the evening. It also syncs with a Cabelas website so you can look at the different trips, waypoints, etc right on your computer. I would highly recommend it. -
I agree. At 45 lbs you should be using a cut on contact head. You will get a lot better penetration with a Magnus Stinger, Muzzy Phantom, VPA Terminator, etc, then you ever will with a rage or other mechanical head out of a 45 lb bow. And the Magnus has a lifetime warranty so you will really get your moneys worth out of them. Also a great carbon arrow for the price is the Beman ICS Bowhunter. I bought a dozen shafts last year off ebay for $37.99 with free shipping.

I use the Cabelas Recon Hunt app and it works great. It is the only app I have ever paid for ($3.99 I think), but it turns your phone into a hunting GPS. It works great for day trips in the big woods. -

I saw that earlier this morning too and laughed. Great job Carol Roth. -
I wouldn't shoot it. I would just take a grainy shaky video of it to show everyone.

If you are such a big shot switch to a recurve or longbow. But if it took you years to truly master a compound you would most likely never be good enough to hunt with a recurve or longbow. I made the switch to hunting with a recurve 2 years ago after 20 years with a compound. I tell you it is much much harder, but I don't think everyone else hunting with something more modern should have to hunt only during gun season just because I choose to challenge myself.
