  1. Bow shops that handle recurves and longbows at all are hard to find, let alone one that specializes in them. If you can find someone nearby that has some experience they could help you out as well.
  2. You’ll love shooting a traditional bow. If you are starting out you will want to start with a beginner bow or a used bow to make sure it is something you want to stick with. It takes a lot more practice and dedication than a compound. Check out 3riversarchery.com and tradtecharchery.com (which is a branch of Lancaster Archery. The Samick Sage is a good starter bow and 3 Rivers used to sell a starter kit which came with everything you needed to start shooting. You can also pick up a nicer bow pretty reasonable used. I got a brand new Hoyt Buffalo off ebay 2 years ago for a great price and it is a great hunting bow. As said above, there is no draw length on a recurve like there is on a compound, the draw length is wherever you draw it too. They draw weight is rated at 28” so it will be about 2 lbs less for ever inch you draw less than 28” and about 2 lbs more for every inch you draw over 28”. Start with a low poundage bow so you can work on good form and a good anchor point. This is also why takedown recurves are nice because you can change the limbs to a higher poundage as you improve and get more comfortable. A couple of good forums to check out are the leatherwall on stickbow.com and tradgang.com. 3 Rivers Archery also has some good instructional information on their site.
  3. Why would it take so long to change the website if they have changed their stance? That is where most people get their information about the organization. Has New York Bowhunters Inc ever done anything good for NY bowhunters?
  4. Which party is it again that ran on keeping tax breaks for businesses to promote growth? This can't solely be blamed on the President. This may be the most dysfunctional congress in history.
  5. I bet you will. I believe a lot of gun hunters that have steered clear of bow hunting because of the amount of practice involved will buy crossbows and hunt. The big influx we see during muzzleloader will now start 2 to 3 weeks earlier during the archery season. That is why the state will pass it because of the increased archery tag sales. The good thing I see is if a lot of gun hunters start hunting with crossbows during archery season is that maybe there will be more support for a longer archery season in the northern zone.
  6. No disrespect taken. As discussed above, that is referring to the roll back of the SS payroll tax which which was only meant to be in place for 1 year, but ended up being in place for 2. It was reduced from the normal 6.2% to 4.2% as part of the stimulus plan. There was no plan to extend this for another year that I heard. So you are right, basically everyone earning a paycheck is seeing a tax increase.
  7. I know what you are saying. People won't be happy when they get their first paycheck of 2013 and it's 2% less than last year, but that was always a temporary cut as part of the stimulus package. The federal income tax was what was being discussed during the election. It looks like the settled on raising taxes for income over $400,000 for singles and $450,000 for families.
  8. This is really a silly argument don't you think? Criminals are just going to break laws anyway so why should we have them? Why is murder illegal if criminals are just going to do anyway?
  9. "Obama pushed hard to enact the payroll tax cut for 2011 and to extend it through 2012. But it was never fully embraced by either party, and this time around, there was general agreement to let it expire."
  10. This shouldn't be a surprise. Both sides have said they would let the SS payroll tax holiday expire. It was suppose to only be in place for one year and they ended up extending it for another (2011 and 2012). I guess if you never got the 2% tax break the last 2 years you wouldn't miss it now.
  11. That's the type of lame answer I expected. I guess people could care less about 20 little kids getting killed, it's the gun that people want to read about.
  12. Why would 20 kids killed with an AR sell more papers then 20 kids killed with handguns?
  13. And this is why they will eventually be allowed during archery season. It will get all the gun only hunters to also hunt during archery season, which means more money for the state. If you can shoot a gun you can shoot a crossbow.
  14. No you are the problem. I get sick of explaining why idiots like you don't represent responsible gun owners. You don't seem to get the fact that your attitude is doing more harm with the anti's then anyone else on here. Quit being part of the problem.
  15. Yeah, if you go to google and type in Dick's I'm sure the website you are talking about will pop right up.
  16. Wow. That looks awesome. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Thanks for the words of wisdom. To be pro-gun doesn't mean you need to be a total A-hole like you. Try having an intelligent conversation for once.
  18. I can't explain that because I don't know how anyone can support one party over the other. None of their stances make any sense to me. What I do know is that this is going to be bad. They have been forced into action by this terrible act so I believe there will be bipartisan support to do something.
  19. So you think they will take away your guns now? I do see an assault rifle ban passing because they have been forced into some sort of action by this tragedy, but you are just spreading your ignorance by saying they will take away your "pump guns" and pistols. But that is what we have come to expect from you.
  20. And what common sense are you referring too? The don't shoot up a school sense?
  21. The primary weapon used was a Bushmaster AR-15. Watch the news.
  22. So please oh wise one, tell us how gun owners have put us in this precarious position?
  23. When the "blood in the water" is a bunch of 6 and 7 year olds, things change politically. If you don't understand that then I think you are too stupid to own a gun.
