I wouldn't automatically assume that. I know quite a few gun hunters that never even shoot their guns before the season starts and deer get wounded and not recovered all the time during firearm season. Just because a weapon is more efficient doesn't mean it translates to higher recovery rates.
-
I agree. More deer are killed the opening day of muzzleloader than any other day of the season (gun or bow) and more are killed during that week than any other week of the season. I say put the crossbows in archery and muzzleloaders in gun season. Our northern zone archery season is roughly 3 weeks and one of those is also ML.

I think he was asking why you can't shoot an upright bow.
-
Why would you assume that's about you? But if the shoe fits.....

They also laugh at all the east coasters that are scared to hunt out of state without being led around by a guide.

Is it legal to target practice in my backyard
d-bone20917 replied to faust1578's topic in Bow Hunting
I like to put my target right near my neighbors house, especially their windows. It makes it so I concentrate more on not missing. -

Can you shoot in a direction that isn't towards anyone's house but your own? I'd keep shooting but in a safe direction. -
Will this portrait be forever on display in the NYCC headquarters? Maybe a statue?
-
Many states are passing laws to make this illegal. Hopefully all will as the technology becomes easier to get. http://www.foxnews.com/science/2014/03/25/eyes-in-air-states-move-to-ban-drone-assisted-hunting/

The season is even shorter for those hunting the northern zone.

Are they going to come sharpen it when you are halfway through quartering an elk or moose? I love expensive knives too and I have a few, but being able to simply snap on a new blade when it starts to get dull is great.
-
As the others have said they are great for quartering also. If I was going to quarter one in the field that is what I would use.
-
I've been using them the last 2 seasons for field dressing and skinning. They are great. Light and super sharp. I have the Piranta Bolt and Piranta Edge. I'd recommend the bolt because you can use the thicker blades if you need too.

Maybe her defective keyboard that types all the extra periods finally broke?

Yeah Solo Hunters is good. Remi Warren is a bad ass. MeatEater, Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg, and Western Hunter are all good too. These are primarily western hunting shows. I agree that all the whitetail shows are just infomercials and I have no interest in watching those. Solo Hunters has their shows free on their website.

Preference Points for out of state Hunting
d-bone20917 replied to BizCT's topic in Out of New York Hunting
I just read where Wyoming is looking to reduce the amount of tags available to non-residents. If that happens it will only increase the number of points required to draw, but I've never really looked into Wyoming's point system. I plan to start applying for the Kentucky elk hunts also. They have the largest herd in the east and the odds are better than PA. -
Preference Points for out of state Hunting
d-bone20917 replied to BizCT's topic in Out of New York Hunting
I get a preference point for elk in Colorado and bonus points for moose in NH, VT, and I'm going to do Maine this year also. I like the Idaho model where the don't use a points system. -
National attack on DEC Bear Plan
d-bone20917 replied to mike rossi's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This is exactly why we all need to stay or become more involved in these issues in NY. Every hunter should also be contacting the DEC at the email they provided on their website to show support for the bear plan. I would assume they expect a certain amount of responses from groups like HSUS, but not enough hunters pay attention to these issues or provide feedback. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7215.html- 4 replies

A Little Closer Look at the Bear Program Proposal
d-bone20917 replied to Doc's topic in Bear Hunting
"Additionally, close regulation of alternative harvest techniques such as use of bait, pursuit with hounds, trapping or spring hunts could provide additional management tools and would likely generate substantial interest in New York bear hunting among resident and non-resident hunters." Of all the possibilities listed I think the spring hunt would generate the most interest. -
Last week he got run over by a moose. I think this is like the 4th season. It's by far the best hunting show on tv.
-
I've seen this a couple of times. I think both of them handled it well. Neither one got excited and started flinging insults. I really like Steven Rinella. I've read all his books and his show is the best on tv.
-
I'd say those are pretty good groups for just starting out. I have gloves and tabs, but I haven't used a glove the last couple of years. I prefer a tab and seem to shoot more consistent with it. Of the tabs I've used I prefer the alaskan supertab.

I see it is available to stream on Netflix now also, but I haven't checked it out yet.
