The #4 buck is my choice, however I just happened to have some 15 pellet 00 in my pocket. It does pile them up. Never really paid attention to distance, but I know I can reach out and touch.
It is kind of like rabbit hunting.
Our record is 49 with the current group. Killed 68 with a group when I first started. We have big woods and swamps around here. Not much small woods, but we are starting to get spots with smaller woods.
I hit this coyote toward the back with 3" 00 buck
My hounds are run from July 1 until April 15. They get ran 3-5 days a week. They are in great shape. Yes they do catch some and it is almost always done in 5 minutes. The ones that dont get caught get taken out cleanly.
If anybody knows anything about a running pen, they would know that the owner has money invested in it. So to let hounds kill off the game would be costing him money. It just dont happen.
They are pure running walker foxhounds. Our line comes from Canada. Yes, we usually have litters. We hunt bigger woods. We find a track and put our 11 year old jump dog on. Once she jumps we add more hounds and try to catch her off. We have a one hour rule. The dogs have to run one hour before shooting the coyote. Unless the dogs catch them which has happened quite a bit this year.
I live in Oswego co. and live a few miles from New Haven. I have several friends that have taken and have heard of some really nice bucks taken from there this year. That is a "DANDY" OF A BUCK"...CONGRATS
Not sure..we have big woods, so not much open shooting. I have taken them up to 80 yards, but probably wouldnt go much further. We use the mags, because we get alot of bayups with the dogs and need the small caliber
