Culver let's be real... We can't get guys to pass small deer voluntarily but you want them to practice QDM? Really? Here's where guys are getting lost, if you want something done or changed it has to be implemented. Not vary person to person on their own will. I'm all for QDM over ARs. But if you can't get guys to do either then WTH. I hate hear the excuse well each area varies through out ny, yes it does, stop shooting every deer on sight and it doesn't have to be that way!

So maybe you guys who don't even see a 2.5 and rarely see anything with horns or anything decent for that matter, don't you think your area is in dire need of change!? Where all you see is spike horns and a 4 point, don't you think that can be changed? Wouldn't you want a change? I mean c'mon... Apparently you guys are meat hunters because your area generally doesn't have big deer but that doesn't have to be the case. If I was in an areaike that instead of sayin well this is my area and that's that, I would be thinking what could be done to bring deer numbers up and maybe some more deer over the 90" mark. Being in an area where guys shoot everything it's no wonder WHY the deer herd is taking a hit. It's common sence man. Who cares about age structure, I'm talking simple common sence, a deer gets passed, he makes it he gets bigger next year. And yes if I was in an area where deer populations were low I def would take a 1.5 old 6 rather a 1.5 old spike, wouldn't you??!

OK..... So.... we are all in agreeance? WE ARE ALL FOR AR's??? opps.....

1 of the problems is its only about 10 acres, with a hit like that you might not find blood until you are on the next property over.. hard to be in your shoes and try and put a scenario together based on what you said but the white hair you found on the head could be from exiting out of the belly area low or even near the chest depending on how much or little he was quartering. the fact that you found the first part of the arrow could be from the arrow mostly sticking out the off side of the deer and either 1) breaking off from a limb as he ran or 2) his off shoulder broke it off as he began to run. these things happen, but learn from it... a lot of hunters have a hard time letting a deer offer another shot or even watching it walk off with out an arrow in it. sometimes watching them walk or waiting is the name of the game. focus on making clean shots, especially since your only hunting 10 acres. with 10 acres they can run 150 feet either way and be completely off the property you hunt.

and w? whats the rest of the story? quartering to shots are ill advised for most hunters, especially one who just started hunting. did you find blood? arrow? deer?

went out again for an evening hunt, had that big boy on my mind so i said let me head in. got on stand at 330 and about 5:10 i hear a crash, then a min later i hear grunting and more crashing. i got pumped, i thought it was that buck on that doe again so i got ready and after hearing grunting and chasing for 5 min or so i finally see horns, just not the big one. it was a nice 6 or 7 point. he ran this doe all around me and came in to about 15 yards letting out very long grunts and continued to chase her around for 20 min. they then moved off andi can hear them like 150 yards away since the wind was dead calm. so thats 2 dif bucks chasing does today hard. good signs the last 4 sits in this tree i had chasing and seeking going on.

everyone's experience in the woods varies as does deer activity from timber to timber... i do not think everyone on here has the same experiences and generally at the same time. each area is different. some guys are around bedding areas, some around food plots and fields, others in hardwoods so the activity will be different from spot to spot, at different times of the day and generally the season. also, the amount of time you put in preseason scouting and seat time in general will often raise your level of activity. some recon can really put you in the right spot. i think its just a matter of time until you see some chasing or seeking in your area, stay patient and keep at it. you wont see em if your not in your stand.

had a 6 point chasing a doe around my stand for 20 minutes, he was grunting like crazy, very long grunts. bucks seem to be looking for does and also chasing pretty hard. the 2 doe that came in this morning had pretty dark hocks, they werent completely dark but im sure they are getting close and driving these bucks nuts.

Oh that really sucks, sorry to hear that!
-
im home now... i was hoping today was my day!! lol i think it will happen this week, fingers crossed!
-
Private today.. Did you? Yeah the bigger ones are starting to show their face now.
-
Yes I know I was busting your chops. I'm always scanning, never stop. You can miss em even when your looking. This spot is thick, I don't have many areas where I can see out far like most guys. They are usually pretty close by the time I see them but I can hear them coming. Wind is lite today so I can hear pretty far.

Zero, I multi task. Just had a 6 come in, nose to the ground the whole way

Around 730 saw a slammer, high 130s atleast. He was 2 feet shy of stepping into my 25 yard lane but the Doe that was in my lane booked it a few steps and he turned around where he came from and looped. I thought for sure he was going to proceed fwd into the lane.

About 730 I hear heavy walkin coming to me down a trail. A doe come into my 25 yard shooting lane and right behind her is a huge high 130"ER. He was 2 feet shy of stepping into my lane! I can see him clear as day behind some brush smelling this doe infront of him. She was all weary with him on her so she made a quick trot a few steps and stopped, I thought he would have moved fwd into the lane but be turned where he came from and looped around. So close!! First time the bow came off the hanger for the season. Hope he comes back in

Been in my stand since 5:40... Wind is extremly calm and it's pretty chilly out. Hope to see a shooter on its feet
-
25" difference is pretty big lol hope you get him tho
-
that part gets me all the time lol.... im pretty sure it gets all of us here n there.

very hard to tell if you bump deer when your engines running.. and no way you are sure if you have a big one working your area and hes bedded up that he will stay bedded watch you drive by and say, well im headed to that dude tree to die this morning lol. atleast if your walking you can hear if you blow any out of there. hey, its JMO
-
thats your answer for everyone? how many 1.5 old 8s do you have on tap in your area??? its a proven fact, when small deer are passed they get bigger. the whole idea about AR's is antler restrictions NOT age restrictions. some guys cant even tell the difference between a button and a doe so enforcing an age structure would be a LONG SHOT. id rather see something done to promote giving deer a chance to make it out of ONE season... this state has great capabilities to produce even more bigger deer and the ones that make it to the next season will in deed get older. kind of like how we have 3.5 plus through out NY. could you imagine if we had more then just a few here n there. funny how the guys who are against AR's happen to shoot anything they see really to fill a freezer but their main argument in AGE???? why do meat hunters care so much about age but not about AR's? if meat hunters fill a freezer WTH do they care about age? who said anything about age? let a small buck go and he makes it the season he gets older and bigger. are you following?

i always go the walk in route... although they may be used to your qtv, they may rarely ever hear them that early in the AM. im totally not saying you would not see deer if you rode in but if you happen to blow the one deer you may be after out of there then a walk in may have been the best fit.
