  1. May I ask why you drive a truck ? Needed for work ? I have one a Colorado as I dont need a big one but mostly drive a Subaru as I care for the environment. Share the love ! 5-6 bucks a gallon will crush the working class and poor .
  2. Crushed it ! We don’t touch our investments and they’ve gone up by good six figure amounts in that time . Our two kids an RN and CPA have gotten better jobs ,maxed out their 401k’s , outside investments , bought houses , Tesla stock , they go traveling to foreign counties , snowboarding and hunting . The RN just got a 4-5k wage adjustment and made 250% on Tesla . The hard part is they only have seen great gains and I worry they may think stocks just go up ,even though i taught them otherwise . Isis suffered set backs and AQ is almost a thing of the past , the BLM folks have largely gone back to Smoking / selling weed and breaking into cars . Ive gone from carrying a double stack Glock with 16 rounds and two spare mags , to a single stack . Most days ..... Strongly thinking of buying a home out of state either for winters ,or perhaps full time , when taxes and political climate gets even worse here . May start out winters then when Andy f@## it up even more go ,full time .
  3. Bob, you may find this funny . Back in the day, when my buddy’s trapped , their main spots were , MCC , any drainage behind any shopping center , or restaurant , along the Bay like behind the Bay Front restaurant and every other business down there . My friend and his two brothers trapped along with their Dad . Dad would skin rats on the hood of his car in the parking lot waiting for the boys to come out from hockey practice . Riding in the car was always fun . In the back seat , one side of the floor was skins , the other body’s in a sallow cardboard box . Try to sit on the skin side .... One time a coon my buddy “ killed” by hitting its head with the blunt side of his axe, came to in the car . Times are different now sadly .
  4. I’m a tortoise ( and Boglehead ) , who always held a long term time horizon, frankly we’ve amassed a good bit and in our sixties , I don’t invest to hit home runs or strike out . 7% overall would yield us a safe six figure return .
  5. Ok I jumped in on Tesla . We’ll see if it’s to, late Lol . Kept the amount in the five figures just in case it is .
  6. I’ve got about a dozen stocks in my IRA ,that were picked mostly on dividends. But between the wife and I theres also 401k , deferred comp, pension , SS ( her and she waited a few years ) non retirement mutual funds, cash , and even an annuity .
  7. On line 9mm ball at 60 cents is a bargain now , most is 70 cents to a dollar . 30 cents a round , you should have loaded up , we may never see those prices ever again . Seldom after price increases like we have now , do they ever return to the lower level again , they may go down , but not to original levels .
  8. Outdoor limited ,website . 9mm has gone up considerably since , not sure if as supply sells out price goes up, it was my first time buying from them . It might be a good idea ,to keep a supply of consumables on hand for such times . We don’t go crazy but a couple of big packs of TP, paper towels , shelves of canned goods, pasta ,rice and so on does bring comfort . If nothing else we seldom “ run out “ of things , snowing , just real cold ? Ok we don’t need to go to the store just the basement . Lock downs ,power outages ( we did 11 days once ) no big deal for us , we’ve got batteries, propane etc to see us through as well . become an Ant , not the grasshopper. http://read.gov/aesop/052.html
  9. Agree . I bought a ML to use in shotgun season as it was a superior weapon , I chuckled that it got a separate late season like it was somehow an inferior weapon . Today guys are shooting deer at 300 yards with them , yet there they are along with bow in a special season . Might as well allow single shot rifles as well .
  10. Have no,idea never watched football , so, it was funny I was the only one who recognized and met him ,along with some chubby grey haired head coach I believe . In a few months when my one nephew becomes a business partner with a very well know NFL owner , look for me in the owners box .....
  11. $20 in what ? One share of Tesla ,is over $800 right now . Most funds have a minimum amount to start as well . Also going from $20 to $100 is a 500% return , if you can average over %10 a year you’re doing good . It’s very good you’re going to start , the earlier the better , there’s tons of web sites , that can be of great help . Vanguard has a lot of info . heres a start https://investornews.vanguard/media-types/video/
  12. My daughter doubled her money since August . Im thinking of buying 20k worth now just for shits and grins . Also I love retirement, but I’m lazy by nature . Once this old dog dies , I’m putting a . 22 I the old cat, and hitting the road . That’s not a euphemism for the wife either .
  13. Found my pic of Jim Kelly, at a Tim McGraw , Faith Hill concert around ‘06 . That man could pound those beers ! His hands are giant , shook it and it was like the size of a baseball glove .
  14. Ok, they did storm an occupied police station .locking cops inside and setting it on fire . Arson to an occupied structure is something that even in NYS you have the legal right to kill them ,to stop it , yet little was done to stop it . One arrested and he got 45 days , for a felony arson . They attacked countless cops, firemen , and members of the general public for weeks upon weeks in cites across the country , pretty much at will ,with little consequences. 1,000s of arsons , people’s livelihoods gone ,neighbors gone , jobs and tax base reduced in area they were needed the most . I believe the number of damaged or destroyed buildings in just Roch. Was around 90 , including at least one firehouse , and one engine that was attacked on the way to a arson fire . Yesterdays events trouble me on many levels , in some ways more so then all the destruction caused by blm and antifa for months on end , in cites across America . Im fine with shooting looters on sight as well as those storming the Capital, yet security at the Capital might want to consider actually doing their jobs . Sweet gig, don’t ever have to fight anyone or get dirty , and that showed the one time they needed to . Perhaps the rooftop Koreans could instruct them ?
  15. Thousand rounds came today , $599 , which is way high compared to not ,long ago , but may be a bargain with what may be coming . Biden wants to end online sales , which is where many buy large amounts, if they’re forced to buying , local , today’s shelves may look, full in comparison. Ive also heard he wants to stop imports of ammo further reducing available supply .
  16. Cops hands are tied , along with always judged being wrong , proactive police work is a thing of the past . Take a report afterwards ,get your 20 and retire to Florida, without being sued is today’s goal . My city, days of riots , 90 buildings damaged or burned , multiple cop cars burned , cops pelted with frozen water bottles, rocks , piss , they had to stand down and take it ,when they should have been giving wood shampoos . This is what progressives want now they have it , enjoy .
  17. I bought a Montana deer elk combo license/ tags for $900 ,years back no preference points just over the counter . With covid and guys loosing jobs and such ,I’d imagine the demand for out of state’s tags are lower, and your chance of getting tags higher now .
  18. Fancy mans clothes , ill skin a grizzly if I need a coat .
  19. Stuff one with leaves and such ,for an insulated bed . Cold ground saps your body temps . Can make a poncho, or cut one open and use to block wind and rain . Contractor grade bags work the best . Knife, matches and a contractor bag were always on me canoeing remote rivers across Canada, I often had other items but those three were the basis, cordage and a light would be number 4 and 5 . Staying warm and dry are number one , food other then for a mood boost is not much of a consideration for me .
  20. This times 10 . My buddy lives on the bay ,70 stairs to the water , he did that ten times, then went behind his house and climbed up and down the bank . About an hour everyday for months . He was about six foot maybe 230, he dropped 30 pounds in preparation for the hunt as well . He was winded every day , the hunt just wiped him out . Out of shape and not a good shot , are the two biggest downfalls .
  21. Not a bad idea . We’re about 50/50 stocks, and fixed or bonds . My deferred comp has been 100% in the general fund paying around 4% for years . Also for years I’ve taken capital gains and dividends in cash, and often buying hard assets . I’ve heard many wealthy families pass wealth along in art, jewels, gold , harder for Gov. to track . Many we know have been looking into off shore accounts, but that’s getting harder . I wish I’d have put 100k into grey market Rolexes , prices have resin nicely and stock is low . Mrs. Nomad is ready to bury coffee cans in the yard ..... Other then the taxes we’ll surely see go up , my fear is means testing , that will crush us .
  22. One take away I have is security there sure sucks . But few take things serious till after something happens . Two, I’m not much of a conspiracy guy, but those inside don’t look like most of those outside at the protest . Hopefully with enough arrests we can see if they’re Trump supporters or simply agent provocateurs . Pics below . Three UPS just dropped off another 1000 plus rounds at the front door .
  23. That’s a really good set up you have there. I’ve thought of having a moving POD dropped off where I hunt , and building a framed in wall with door behind the swing out doors . Never looked into the cost though .
  24. Coons are a pain . Now late ‘70s / 80s or so you got good money for them , I’d pick up road kill , as my friends trapped and would help me and sell them to the buyer who’d come to their house . My one buddy made enough off rats and some mink , over Christmas break to pay for the next semester at college . 1970s.""Prices were insanely good back then," he said. "Raccoon hides were going for $40 apiece. You couldn't find a dead coon on the road, because people were collecting them and skinning the pelts. That's money, and people aren't going to let that lay."In March, raccoon pelts went for $15 - not nearly as much as in the 1970s, but more than in recent months.
