Good point brought up...I now will not be hunting during bow season at camp....8x is a low # area and always hard getting doe tags for...if I were to use my doe tag down there during bow I wouldn't have a tag to hunt during gun...we don't see alot of buck down there so I always hunt home for buck opening week...the guys can have camp that week But my Dad in-law and I hunt at camp when the guys have to go back to work...so he has someone there....

growalot replied to stargazer's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Sorry to hear that...we recently won a bid on a Mercury out board...1200.00....We refused to send payment until we received the motors seriel #s....#'s were sent and we then called mercury to confirm...no such #'s...well contacted person ...excuses...then old owner must have rubbed them off....STOLEN much : ....Ya well he has it back up on Ebay again.....go figure -
This is actually the best garden I've had in years..... ;D ...if it wasn't wild animals and birds eating and pulling every thing out it was a rouge billy goat!...I the goat went to goat auction
-
Out of the garden now...hauling all those 55gal barrels full of water really helped...got to get fall plants in now...but picked first tomato's...lord I planted 38 of them...and cukes...been getting greens and re planted lettuce...picked first peppers and zucchini ...peas have kept me busy shucking and freezing and we have beans almost ready....anyone out there put in a garden?

Yes there is a pitch....6'2 to 5'10"..... I have many many many actually 28 stands... now two shooting houses....12 ground blinds....two climbers and two portable blinds on 73 acres...at camp I have 4 on 68 acres the guys have 5.....I hunt from Oct to Dec ...nearly every day at one point or another and change stands pretty much daily...the deer...Tend to look up...a lot of guys file in just before season and start stand work.....if they notice a stand on me ...well its been there all year and they see so many...no big deal...but they pretty much react to my being out working in the woods all day the same way....I routinely walk past mature and fawn deer ...just yards away and they just watch me and go about their business.

Thanks guys....I can't really say how long ...for as many of you may have noticed....I have a lot to do...In on a water break now...after mowing...I work this place by my self...deal we made....he brings home the paycheck....I make the home ...And it's a big place with animals and ag stuff...so a little here a little there....I found paying 50 cents per cut at the lumber yard....has really helped me out...before that I would rip all lumber my self with a circular saw : ...what was I thinking...lol I do plan on sleeping in it....no more bumping deer ...getting charged....yotes attacking... and I can actually sleep in a bit....ect...ect....But alas it is just one of many stand and blind options and I do like to mix it up
-
see what happens with assumptions for I know many hunters that don't shoot and do not allow doe hunting on their lands....even though they hunt....because they see a over issuance of DMP and damage permits...yet they all go after the 3-4 doe tags in many years ....they can get...to take them out of the mix( second chance tags added there)....before you think it...I took only doe last year ..2

What I was saying is ppl that may have hunted the northern part but lost out do to the lottery would with the new system...would now not have a option of shooting a doe....and Bingo you hit the nail on the head WNYH...for as it stands now this scenario has already played out over the years....guys that know they have a lower chance of getting tags in the area they normally hunt go for the closest highest chance area...we all do it....then does the DEC take this in to account when estimating #'s across the entire DMU? ...when the hear guys complaining they see no deer area they trying to gather the info to find out if it's a whole unit problem or a border problem? I believe that before the DEC goes ahead with a implementation of a 5yr plan...they need to figure out how to gather and compile all the needed info much better than they do now...a glaring example of this is the lack of any reasonable harvest info gathering in this new plan.
-
Let me set up this scenario and tell me ...please.... how this change is really going to help...say you have 8H and it has a high deer number...but 8M shares a large border with it and it has a very low deer number...due to previous over DMP issuance and weather...ppl being what they are like staying close to home and familiar areas from 8m mainly apply for the best area...8-H....what many of them do when receiving their DMP is stay very close to the 8 M-H border...now this being a lottery lets say a lot of 8M guys got tags....what good does that do in controlling the high doe #'s in the northern part of 8-H...especially when you have now lost out on those possible bow harvests they would have had with out DMPS?....

returned............Too bad I may have to spray down and till up that bean sorghum plot...the deer are loving it...but I didn't kill all the night shade from last year...it's back
-
Me too Larry....heck of a thing to get use to...hhhmmm so many jk's to put in here but I'm more polite than that....any how had to get over premature trigger syndrome with the mechanical release...but as in all things ...practice did the trick ;D
-
Sweet bow and I like it a lot...groups well.....is well balanced in my hand....have put it down for a bit ....had to go back to my old Hoyt to build back up to my #51 draw weight before my shoulder injury....I have to go in and get the Venture increased....now that I'm comfortable ...then it will be shooting just the Venture from now till hunting season

I mentioned this before and no response ...as I said compromise ...I don't have a clue to what the data would show or if perhaps they've already compiled it and that's why they came up with the proposal they have....but as an alternative...saying this will go through one way or another...what do you think of this? MPO is opening bow Oct 1 then putting 2 gun seasons in the middle of Oct....even though one (ML) is SUPPOSE to occur only in high density areas and only for doe...isn't a good plan....They say they are doing this because bow is inadequate in managing the herd...but...then they purpose to add gun which as many that have hunted for years can attest to ...greatly increases nocturnal behavior....Now I ML as well and don't often get my tags for by Dec I'm tired cold and behind for the holidays...I would think compiling the data they have for bow season....they may find adding the early ML the last week of bow season to perhaps be a better solution...It may show that most bow kills occur before those last four days...even though the rut is starting it's full swing...for one thing this may tweek gun hunters that fear the nocturnal habit and it could increase ML license sales....many guys that bow hunt...and usually for buck have gotten their buck and are more willing to ML that last few days before gun for a doe...as far as the youth hunt.....don't worry about giving them a three day weekend ....2days during the weekend before gun opener...even though still during the bow season is more than sufficient...seeing that is a time when buck are up and moving any ways...I mean the whole intent is to get them hooked right? Seeing buck up running doe ...how much more exciting is that?

I took these today...soybeans I planted a month ago...so much for that...in desperation I went down and threw some 1yr old turnip seed(i think...bag not marked) all over one end of them...the sorghum is rather sad looking and the $9.00 bag of feed corn I planted...well it's holding it's own but stopped growing...Thank God I just heard rain for a whole 10 seconds just now...lets hope it rains for real this time

almost framed in...need to do roof siding and windows...I was given 2 4'x8' pieces if plexi...yea ha...did all this using a square for 45's and straight cuts ...a hammer.... nails.... bow saw and 30ft tape...I will be comfy hunting this year
-
I see the good reasoning on going DMP...just wondering if they were going to change the LT and charge....and your right I see where they would have a hard time inforcing a earn a buck in high density areas where you could only use your tag there if you got a doe first....what about earn a doe tag...they pretty much have that in 8-H now don't they? Hey I'm not perfect but any ideas are better than none... for at least they are out there to be tweeked See I really don't have a problem with the early ML...just where they want to stick it...It makes no sense to me ...see I ml as well and didn't get my LT because well I'm tired by then and cold!...I can see it being the last week of bow...but then again I never fill my tag then...I always fill it before then...ya ya it's the best time ...beginning of rut so on and so forth....but really how many archers don't muzzle load? and it would be easy for the DEC to compile data on how many deer are taken the last week verses middle of Oct...wouldn't it be?....if the majority of bow kills aren't the last week...then it would justify putting ML then....Gun hunters would tweek and those that didn't ML before just may buy an in line and buy a license ...increasing sales....the whole idea of getting a chance before they go nocturnal...just a thought

Your right it is dang near rock hard...but I just disced up most of my fall plots ...because I really need to get the water...if it EVER comes...(rained 12 seconds this morning : ) into the ground and not running off or staying near top and then evaporating away before I get the seed down
-
Ouch...not sure where that came from but Congrats on the new bow...I was in the same boat as you this year and bought the new missions Venture...love it ...I did get a HD quad drop away but it holds the arrow in place...Not big on the whole speed thing...figure I got a lot of deer with the old bow and anything new is going to have much more speed than the old bow anyways ...Do need to go in this week and have the poundage upped...my shoulder seems to be (knock on wood ) back in shape again.

Great pics guy....I have one cam down and absolutely no bucks on any of the others....not surprised though....never see buck until end of Aug. here...then they just start filing in...doesn't help that soybeans dried up and sorghum is looking like curled up twigs now...where as the farmer a mile away has been irrigating his beans and corn ??? ...but my feed corn...is getting hit daily and still looking like it could recover and grow -
there you have some good ideas...don't for get the Watins Glen area of Senica lake...you have the wineries and great eateries

Just pulled the card...this is just 30 yrds from the mulberries in the sorghum bean plot......
