  1. I think unless the dec agrees with an idea different than the current approach the only way to see change is to have documented survey with data that 1) swing behind just the majority and 2) can be FOIA requested. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Whether they're liked or despised they're at least making some efforts- now if only the survey efforts were open to the general licensed public in its entirety. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I trust both sources and have read similar both pro and con on dougs board. I used to shoot ssts and had a number of successes but had one shrapnel on me and that was enough. The Barnes I shoot are no longer made so I'd love to line the next one up but like anything on the web- the reviews are vast out there so I try to keep em from people I knkw
  4. With regard to home range- that is a thread or book itself. Yes there are generalities on sex or age but the rut phase, food, pressure, cover, snow depth, water all move them around - I feel we all were in the same area though with if they have everything they aren't as likely to travel as much. I'd rather have the right 50 than the wrong 500 but that poses no guarantees. I simply don't know of any thousand acre deer properties like that in NY but that's not to say they don't exist Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. If I cared about traffic I would've stoked it- that was never one of my concerns. I will give you a big atta boy for all your help keeping her alive though
  6. Thank you for both aspects stated here.... but the first line made me smile most. Ive been hated and haunted before for saying this but this forum is a colors clubhouse for sure.
  7. HNY was not the only the place this was posted. No idea on how many respondents were from here either and it isn't worth the guess. If there are 650k-750k hunters in NY lets just look at how many are members here. There could be no true crossection/geographic/demographic and have it random...I just see the best idea as the DEC requesting input form everyone and sorting the results as the best way to proceed
  8. I agree on the latter but disagree on the 1000 ac part. Unless its fenced deer roam, especially bucks and their routes/dispersion can easily take one off "your ground". This is exactly why the flurry of the chase phase brings optimism to those with lousy ground.
  9. the PRs were not impressive for terminal performance and friend had the similar issues (though jacketed) with the 275s
  10. Chinese Manchurian Mourning Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. When an argument results to name calling; the accuser has lost. - Confucius the Deer Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Although I have guzzled from the deer management trough there are two big misses here. 1) deer don't just live on a property and 2) the vast majority of hunters just follow DEC lead initiate and commentary. It's easy to say don't shoot a doe on your ground based on census but if you live in genesee co and there are 50-60000 dmps or shared ground...you don't have to do anything and it's done for you.
  13. So you didn't like my survey doewhacker? I didn't make the results so maybe you should also dislike the 750 people who voted. That counts as doing something" doesn't it?
  14. Bunch around- kens in Attica has a couple...not stainless and laminate though 300gr BO, Black CR, CCI, 68 RL 7-shoots like a dream.
  15. No that was serious. People who scout their butts off and hold woodsman ship in their skill sets don't fall for the retail pixie dust corner cutting perils almost all the others in this activity do. The reasons the shows are commercials filled with commercials is most hunters just want to buy their way into bigger or more animals but fall into their own socio economic constraints. Simply posing "if this thing was so effective wouldn't everyone use it and the total population of these animals hammered." In the checkout line would save a lot of debt in hunters homesteads. Wants to kill more and bigger deer? Scout more and keep a journal of every putting. Fact. But instead $10 -$50 lotto tickets to better bucks takes place to the tune of millions of dollars each year with scents or the acorn cruncher....
  16. Putting tangible numbers to questions had and the ability to show a grass roots survey through some of the more vocal social media venues had results that contradicted what our state has given us..which provided a few onion layers for consideration.... And last and least- the ability to say I ran with some passion to find facts, share those facts trying to illustrate some suspect concerns rather than just being another keyboard hero touting my opinion is better than the next lazy uninformed person on a given forum Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. The new crop of homegrown (huntervids and Vimeo) stuff is so well filmed. Really a great artistic representation of what we love. My earlier comment jesting on the pros not filming here was more deer related but I guess holds true with our low turkey numbers now.... Could've been a lot of great filming 15 years ago to around 2012 or so. Hoping we get a good nesting spring this year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. I think it was a great suggestion to release immature birds by the state. I wonder how many would back it? My least favorite "state land" interactions have taken place during pheasant (slaughter) season.... It is a really sad activity with the end game being far from sporting or positive. Think it's also sad no one has every really pinned down why their numbers plummeted or why their population is so hard to sustain. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. I made a survey on my topics, my way and sent it to whom I felt would benefit the most from it. If you can do better, do it. If you feel you're great at critiquing- throw one out for us to pick apart as open communication with feedback is so valuable. It is always a sign of true articulation and intellect to unjustly name- call someone a whiner because they don't like your cause as well. Why on Earth would they turn your advice down? Take all the keyboard hero shots you want boys....I'll be here laughing about my achievements with just cause.
  20. not turkey related but here are a few suggestions if you hadn't heard of them Deer Educational -Hunting -Blood Brothers Outdoors -the Hunting Beast Land -Karl Millers webshow - Entertainment -Midwest Whitetail great Lakes -Greg Miller stuff -Whitetail Adrenaline -White Knuckle Productions (webshow) -PBO outdoors (local) Not to contradict what was said earlier but these are the best junk food items to have in the fridge
  21. What do the field days or special persons hunts have to do with quality deer? That's my point. Though noble in effort where is the relationship to the deer? So if I did the same things without the QDMA it doesn't count? Pat yourself on the back all you want btu you just proved my point like a champ. Not one to brag, or treat deer like results, but if you were chat with anyone that knows me you'll find yourself very wrong yet again in this thread.
  22. Doing pretty darn good with my career but thank you for your concern. Try looking at it from the standpoint of putting a good and charitable effort forth for all (not yourself) and then taking pot shot like the one below your post....its easy to get a chip on your shoulder. Its also a sad realization when one comes to the conclusion that our own ranks are more the problem than the antis and DEC.
  23. Sorry to hear that. Ill do better just for you next time.
  24. Anyone who hunts and isn't after the meat for themselves or another is a killer, not a hunter. Maybe you should consider raising pigs in a pen if you don't have patience and are just after meat...bet you could sportingly take em out with a bolt whenever you'd like too
  25. His show is good (IMO) and podcast better. Randy Newberg is another political yet fun to watch guy. Educationally- there are a few webshows and DVDs. As for not ruining it- my stance is different. They program us to think the pizza guy really gets three blondes that just got out of the pool. It is so hard, even when rationally thinking, to know antler inches do not come to those with skill as much as those with fertile soils and/or money. How many on here hunt field edges? In most cases this is a poor poke and hope tactic. How many shows film here in NY for whitetails? None.
