  1. If they really cared they'd have asked prior not post. One more year Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Our own survey

8g multiple - Inc a 360ac managed farm. Nw 9h and ne 9f. Deer numbers were way down (glossing, shining, cams, archery and gun)- far less does than normal and hardly any fawns. Dinks accounted for most sightings. Two shooters (3.5 and 130+)seen the last week of October. The most deer less sits ever in 25 yrs hunting 2 hunters- one doe in 9h, one Inc 9f and one of those bigger ones too Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Should read- "dec accepting outgoing ny commentary to an unopened email account- be prepared to get aggravated in 2017".... But it was too many words Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Not as good as the acorn cruncher but beats the black rack attack Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. With every stupid a$$ change they make more land leasing and lock up occurs...just hoping there are some rocks smart enough to understand their own herd size and dynamics and not rely on these dummies and their stats department to let you know what's best and balanced in your area. Heard a podcast today where a well known deer personality was discussing the state of the herd us wide... He specifically mentioned NY and the dec for taking data seriously and understand the herd and hunters. I can't believe people would be so dumb to believe any of it. I'll bet on the ml in 17, antler restrictions around the same time... Just following what alt did in pa The good ole days are now old and gone Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Not all land is created equal regardless of who owns it. As others have stated you're lacking something on your ground. Your comment on spending "hundreds" has me thinking its agriculture and good soil. Soil fertility is a big key in larger racks. If your ground offered all they needed you could retain some on a consistent basis to reach maturity ... And age is what ny deer lack most. Nothing the matter with state. The key to any deer property is knowing it.... Scout more and hut less and surely you'll be closer to your goal. Good luck. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Knew of the one in Livingston and it the picture is impressive to see it does so much more. I also know a 8s near 160 just in the past few years- hard to image 13-14. Feet of antler w just 8 points. Most of the guys with Giants- don't put them in the books or anywhere (online, NYON)... Too many wanna be pros want to hunt where the big buck was and not is Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Narrowed it down to observations in scouting, hunting and cams.... It carries weight for matched conditions in the future Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. How was the 98" in 4 days here at my house in November seems to be the storm the dec forgot.... As well as all the other snow and record cold we've had. Apparently ny big game biologists don't use the severity index most other states do Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I haven't paid a lick of attention to the downstate decline but know this forum and every other has had everyone other than the DEC wondering what the heck happened to all the deer in western NY Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    300 win mag

257 wby mag is my deer pick. 300 win is a great round but I rather have a lighter gun in all capacities for whitetails in NY. I shoot a 300 and 7mm a few times a summer- just not want I take to the stand. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. To further make my point, and ruffle feathers, it seems the cranky gun toters are in the latter years of their participation. They want it their way, feel entitled and quote the good old days. The days gone by were of mismanagement, no management and further ill repute. Just because you have more free time, doesn't mean you haven't already had your time to pass every doe, kill every buck, use lead shot and catch every blue pike there was. Both of my posts - all fights aside- would be better summarized by saying- gun hunters typically are not conservationists, as ethical as bow hunters or a tune to the animals they pursue. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I don't hunt big game on state land, or often hunt state land, because of all the (small and big game both) gun Hunter issues and concerns experienced..... So you and your dog did not upset me. Kudos on the single shot and being a Hunter with a responsible description posted... A bunch of Bowhunter suck too (showing fairness through posting) but it just seems our majorities are inverse in such regard. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Two ways to look at this- find the trees and build the land around them or (2nd) build it around the deers already observed tendencies. Don't overthink them- if they're there- what more could you ask for? Don Higgins once said " the more natural a property is the more bucks it will keep and pull". Just food for thought. 15. Why don't you prove me wrong ? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. 8g- first yr trapping hard- two sets- 5 coyotes already and can identify at least 3 (potentially 6) more on cam in the past 3 weeks. I'm sure they're trashing things for us Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Point out one mature buck hunter with consistent success that only gun hunts and follows the laws...... [emoji848] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. I'm not a member of the NYBA but am against the youth season in its current stature and crossbows for general use. I have two kids w lifetime licenses as well. Gun hunters rule the NY deer show. Many others, like this genius, think bow hunters simply have it best because we get first crack. They're right! The issue is their lack of effort, skill, precision and overall being is why every deer runs for the hills. Gut dragging fawns after 5 shot volleys are not sportsmanship- they're actions of immoral slobs. I'm not arrogant by design but cringe anytime I go out during gun. Even on the family farm we deal w trespassers, spot lighters, wounded run always or people eyeing up our place to sneak on. NY is worse than any state I've hunted for this gun phenomenon. As someone who enjoys the woods, nature and the true sport of hunting I feel gun hunters are the fat kid that's always around when you play football simply because his parents own a huge yard. 19. I went out to Tony LaPratt in 05, worked a project with Steve Bartylla, read all of dougherty, sturgis and vales books, as well as those from Miller, ozaga, kroll..... Jim braukers book is the best on this but please take this advice from a guy who's lived this before any of it was mainstream .... Lay your whole property out for deer flow based on non invasive stand access before you cut a tree or plant a plot. If you don't know where to make a bed, social, block or browse area you shouldn't be. Anyone who's hunted a food plot only to see deer use it at night after that should grab this quick- but most will just make a mess and wait for the giant who never shows to be there because they saw a video or read something. 20. Genius. Just f Ing genius Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. Grocery shopping is what your do to bring something home- hunting is not. I'd rather eat a tag but lived and loved moments in the woods than spite conservation and Mother Nature just to kill something Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. The Gary Alt directive in pa was based off saving early successional trees but masked as being about antler restrictions after knocking the crap out of the herd. Basically if hey can limit deer numbers they can claim a win for the regrowth and then dangle the carrot of although there are less deer there are bigger or older ones. Every deer report has the average buck age increasing- ever note that? The stats are based on limited pools for a reason whether it's a survey or the deer take. The sportsmans liaison groups and deer herd meetings are never open let alone published or produce documented minutes. The E stands for economic not environmental Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. They flex and what you gain in weight you lose in noise Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. Although I bought some drt s to go back to fixed blades (for no reason at all other than a whim purchase) I used grim reapers (100 13/8&11/2 razor tip versions) and harvested 2 does and a 5yo stud w no issues at all. Been using them since 2011 wo a problem. Beat mechanical I've touched. I got some rage hypos on a whim as well- gave them to a buddy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
