One thing that i didn't see mentioned to much was terrain in regards to deer sight paths. if you are in the middle of a hill and the deer travel up and down the hill the may be looking right at you while they walk up, if they are going across the hill then that's a different situation. if you are on top of ridge you might be able to set back a little from the edge and stay lower. if you are at the base you might be at a moderate height where the deer could be looking down most of the time but out of sight enough that you can move to get situated for the shot. Best thing to do is look at the tree you want, figure out the wind directions, walk to your effective range and see what the deer might pick up, and then think about shot angle. Most of my stands are 15' ladder stands, but i have hunted in the 30' 2x6 platforms and been busted and then on the other extreme i was going to put my hang on just off the ground for a seat and was making all kinds of noise and had a doe come in to 20 yards and shot her. Every situation is different. you could have two trees side by side and you might want to play the game two different ways. I also agree with the cover you have, if it is dense pines and you have good cover you probably wont get up to 20' because you will be hunting sky chickens, and if you hunt in hardwoods you are a sitting duck for keen eyes. This is just my opinion and hope it helps. Do lots of scent control as well, can try to eliminate variables one at a time. once they are eliminated the situation may present its self.

She has one heck of a drive in if she is coming by Jersey Hill Road. My office is in Freeville and I live in Corning. Its a hike when i have to go up there. Luckily i have only gone 1 or twice a month. I saw a really nice buck on Veteran Hill Road which is on the Corning side of the Alpine junction. Its the third buck i have seen this summer. The others were little 4 points. 8 Weeks

That sums it up well! Spending cutless hours turning the ground and making food plots the patterning the deer and playing the wind. It's a game that is a true addiction.

Cuomo proposes NY DRIVE act
Anailor replied to joe12's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I hate to rip on anyone's cars but there isn't a neon out there that would make me have to clean my shorts. My best friend has a 9000lb dually that makes most clean their shorts. It has 1100ft lb of torque. Next, I wonder how many are really falling for this? -

crazy buck attacks dead buck, new full story
Anailor replied to stevenjackson's topic in General Hunting
I thought after reading the headline post, the story was gonna be how the cray buck had an assault weapon... You just made my day! There was a guy close to here who had a scent drag behind and when he was coming out of the woods had a buck chase him across his field. His tractor was in the field and he ended up climbing into the tractor and shooting it. This buck in the photo was taken during archery last year and my buddy was walking in the woods and the buck ran up from behind him and stopped broad side 15 yards in front of him and give him all the time he needed. -

I'll be buying in Maine. My parents live there and i won't buy any ammo in ny. Also have been considering buying reloading equipment. If I were to buy a pistol or rifle or assault rifle in another state how does that work? I know they ask for your drivers license and that stuff but can you still buy them?

After I posted that I realized I would take any antler. When I find my first one I will jump up and down like a high school cheerleader.

Cant wait to get out and look for more sheds. I have never found any but just need to keep putting in the time. I found an area where there was 7 deer herded up. I'm going to investigate that area a little more before passing on it. During the season I saw 9 different 4 pt or spikes so I don't really care to find those lol but my uncle saw a MASSIVE buck the last day of muzzle loader (of course he had his bow). So my challenge will be finding where they are hanging. We also had two other pretty cool events on the property, 1) we took an 8.5 yr old 4 pt that weighed 170lb with a 16 inside spread. He had an 8 inch piece of antler stuck in his face 2) we had a buck with a hunting blind stuck in his antlers. He was seen during archery the guy that saw him didn't know where to place the shot. Saw him again a couple days into muzzleloader crossing the road at night. If it made it through the season I would like to find that shed.n

Yeah there are tons of rabbits here. My aunt knows aguybthatbhas beagles and I am going to try and get hooked up with him to get some rabbits. I have never shot one but wouldn't mind trying. I also plan to do some shed hunting on the land I lease. It's a beautiful piece of property.

Anyone hunting. In the Corning area? I just moved back here for good and I'm looking to get hooked in with some people that share a common interest. I upland bird hunt, don't have a dog yet, been spoiled by my friends that have them. I would like to do some coyote hunting if anyone is interested. Let me know!
