I get it and I am fortunate to teach in a district that is quite fortunate. I follow the edict of, “ do no harm” in my classroom- these kids will be fine in-spite of what I tell them. It’s the districts and communities that offer little opportunity that I wonder about- school is their ”only way out” for many-whether that’s through the sports they offer or the educational exposure. I actually hope that some kids (even from my wealthy district) realize that there are other opportunities (and maybe better as profitable opportunities) beyond school to make a successful path for themselves. Too many kids from high achieving places are screwed cause they are not scholars/academics/financiers. They may find that trades are the way to go- I hope my kids do! Y’all know I teach and would LOVE to remotely teach especially from Oct 1 - 12/31. It would be a huge mistake - what do we complain about most with kids? Interacting. Y’all suck at teaching your kids how to be civil (you threw a big shot across my bow so I must retaliate RESPECTFULLY). Schools are a social institution that offer a safe environment (school shootings kill less than Coronavirus) for kids to interact with other kids which parents do not allow anymore. They closed nursling homes to all visitors in New Rochelle to prevent someone from bringing it in to a facility. I get that and yet how many of the residents of those facilities are surviving juts to see their visitors, grandkids, kids, etc. they may be taking away what is keeping them going in order to keep them going?!? I’ve been “reassigned to home” as a teacher in my district ...indefinitely. Monday I will be “teaching” remotely. Put an assignment up and sit by my computer to answer any questions. While I appreciate all the well wishes for my family I truly am not overly concerned ...except for the ancillary contacts that I and my family have had since my daughter has had symptoms (not a confirmed case). That’s what makes this REAL. Who the F knows who actually has it and who doesn’t. Answer...no one! Can I just be serious for a moment which is not my MO. ... throw a little good juju the crappy way. We are currently waiting to hear from CDC as to whether or Not I need to bring my daughter in for testing. She has had a cough, and a barely fever for a few days. We have been in touch with our pediatrician. Thought we were all good but then received a call today for DOH. She is on a “list” for testing. I’m not overly concerned for HER overall health as she is strong and healthy and young. However I have been with her 70+ grandma(my Mother) and many others. If she is +. How many have I spread it to?
