  1. Where did I say that I was for this law or said that I didn't care because it didn't effect me?? I don't support it, but at the same time I won't lie and say what some want to hear around here, which is that I don't support it because I can no longer kill a buck. Which according to some of you is the ONLY reason why ALL hunters go hunting. That's the BS part that you guys are injecting into this conversation.
  2. So shooting a buck during a doe only bow season wouldn't be poaching? How about shooting a doe during gun season if you didn't have a doe tag? I don't see any difference myself.
  3. Go to the Catskill or Adirondack regions and see how many tags you will get. And don't forget the majority of hunters are NOT bowhunters, so the gun hunters get squat. And in the Catskill region they were also handed antler restrictions on top of everything else. You need to look at things from other perspectives not only your own in LALA land.
  4. I'd really like someone to name these people who are supposedly crying over not being able to kill a buck? Most of the people who might be complaining have made it no secret that killing a big buck is what drives them in hunting. Who are the rest of the complainers here? I didn't see any. Getting some meat is what drives me, and this new law has ZERO effect on me since I've never hunted in that area. My complaint would be that this law will do absolutely little to nothing to bring down the doe population since bowhunters kill very few deer. Not being able to kill a buck would get NO complaints from me if someone handed me a handful of doe tags instead. Some here are desperately attempting to get their lame point across that the biggest motivation for ALL hunters is to collect antlers which is BS. You guys have completely FAILED in trying to convince anyone that this is true.
  5. Wow! Last weeks hunting news was Cecil the lion being illegally shot by the American dentist. This weeks news is Huntingny forum members admitting to illegally shooting deer. It's been a bad couple weeks for hunting it seems.
  6. Yeah, we've heard it all from you before. It's all about the antlers and the $$.
  7. Or maybe he stepped on a shed antler of one of his pen raised deer. That could have done a number on the "sole" of his foot. Probably required an emergency room visit. LOL
  8. How fitting that you mistakenly spelled soul as "sole" in describing Four Seasons soul. LOL
  9. I wouldn't disagree with what you are saying, but taking yourself out of the game and choosing not to hunt is one thing, and saying that many people will kill a buck no matter what the law now says is another.
  10. Can't you say the same thing if bucks were legal on October 1? Will the guy who is at his hunting spot on September 30 have any better restraint if he happens to see that big buck? Look, we all know what goes on in hunting, but you guys are killing me with these innuendos of the illegal activities that you surely think will happen because of this new doe only law. Just because we don't like this rule, doesn't mean we now need to resort to illegal activities. I've heard this saying that those who think that everyone else is a crook are probably crooks themselves. Kind of fits some of the comments on this thread. Those who say others will resort to killing bucks on October 13, might probably be the ones who would do it themselves also if the opportunity presented itself. Not accusing you of anything here, Belo, you seem like a decent, reasonable sort, but just making a point.
  11. Absolutely correct! The vast majority of hunters don't think about hunting 24/7. Many buy licenses and then don't even get to go out hunting much or at all. Even the ones that do hunt a bit don't keep up with regulation proposals or changes. Being that the median age of hunters is pushing 50 years of age, I'm sure many are not online looking into this stuff like some people on this forum. Then you have your hardcore hunters who are probably more concerned with setting up stands, cameras, food plots, so they aren't the ones writing letters to the DEC either. Doesn't leave too many others to be challenging the DEC on this stuff. They will do what they want, and know that they can get away with it.
  12. I think antler restrictions would be much easier to swallow if they were in an area where doe permits were easy to draw. That is surely NOT the case in the Catskill region, however. Many don't get a doe permit, and then they are told that they can't shoot a smaller buck. Talk about reasons not to go out to hunt at all!
  13. I won't disagree with you that a lot of the laws are screwed up, but when someone starts telling me that just because they own land they should be able to shoot whatever they want on it, then we are talking about something else. What's to stop a person with this mentality to plug that nice buck in August or September without bothering to buy a hunting license at all? Honestly what's the difference if they feel they can do whatever they want on their own land?? The guy down the road might hate ALL deer because of the damage they do to his crops and wants to kill everyone he sees. How will that help the free ranging deer in your area? Don't you think there will now be less deer to potentially wander on to your property?? You need to be careful for what you wish for. Not everyone is in the business of deer hunting like you are, so they may not be looking at things the same as you.
  14. Hell, then they don't even have to wait for hunting season to start or even buy a hunting license if they want to do whatever they please on their own land. That's BS. Many of your posts point to landowners doing whatever they want in terms of game management on their land, but once they start violating the law, then we are talking about something completely different. Free ranging game is NOT owned by the landowners in NYS or any other U.S. state that I am aware of. There is a difference between free ranging and game farm animals.
  15. That is the ONLY way it would have an effect. Bow hunting has never put a big dent on deer numbers and making the first two weeks of bow season doe only will have mighty little effect also. As we could see here, you now have scores of bowhunters so pissed off that many won't even go out hunting during those first two weeks. Here's the vaseline fellas. Make sure you wipe down the jar before you pass it off to the next hunter. It might start getting messy. LOL
  16. Are you talking about the 1812 overture?
  17. She probably beat the crap out of her husband, but the cops were more concerned about her screwing around with her pets. Only in America!!
  18. Great question! I think most people who are not hunters can accept people hunting to put meat on the table, but when "trophy hunting" is brought up, you start losing them real fast.
  19. I'd really like to hear your take on why you think the hunting community has killed hunting, and why you think wildlife agencies have mismanaged deer? That might be an interesting read for sure.
  20. I've been saying for a LONG time now that people could beat their spouses, kids, do God knows what and only get slaps on the wrist. Go harm an animal, even unintentionally and you'll have a better chance of ending up in jail.
  21. I surely haven't forgotten about him. Been trying to tell people long before that incident that Nugent is an idiot. Many hunters and gun enthusiasts love him no matter what, however. They keep kissing his butt like there is no tomorrow, while he's laughing all the way to the bank.
  22. Out of these 20 or 30 different pieces of land, are they all state or NYC land? I didn't think there was that much state or NYC land around there. I couldn't imagine anyone finding that much private land to hunt in an area like Putnam county. Most people can't even find one private spot. Finding more than a small handful would be close to miraculous. I think Biz would back me on this statement also.
  23. mmkay, how heavily are these areas you talk about hunted? I would think that since there are or were abundant 8 pointers running around, the areas don't get heavy hunting pressure? Which would almost be a bit unusual since they are located so close to the NYC area.
  24. I'm an equal opportunity deer killer. If I have a tag for it and I find one within range, it will get shot. A bit more or less meat or horn makes absolutely NO difference.
