Any Non-white Members?

I don't know what reactions were in the past, but to me this gay marriage issue is NOT a civil rights issue. Gays have had the same rights as anyone else in everything except marriage, but I and MANY others simply don't believe that two people of the same sex should have the right to marry. I won't base my opinion on religion, biology or the way I was brought up, but for me two people of the same sex making the claim of marriage simply doesn't hold water. They can live together, have sex with each other, I don't care what else, but for me it's simply NOT a marriage from what I consider the definition of marriage to be. Obviously my point of view has lost out here, however there is absolutely NO reason that I must change my position on this issue. I can assure you that it won't change. -

I guess that might make me the only one against gay marriage AND the confederate flag. Like I said in another post. Gays can have gay sex until the cows come home, but I just don't want to hear about any of it. Gays and gay marriage has been getting so much damned publicity in the last few years, that I am sick and tired of hearing about it. Maybe if they weren't so vocal about it, I could be more accepting, but since they are, they have turned me off completely. I am against gay marriage, and will not change my opinion about it just because it's in vogue to support it. They have their opinions and I will have mine. For me the case is closed. -
You obviously have way more luck than most people. Finding places to hunt within a couple of hours of NYC is a whole different animal. Even trying to get in on a lease is not easy. They want big money for leases and then they have like 10 people hunting 50 acres of land. To heck with that! In other cases not even money will get the landowner to give you permission. You can ask the few people on this site who live around NYC what their experiences finding private land has been like if you don't believe me. Not an easy undertaking, that's for sure. I've seen more than a few give up on hunting completely because of the difficulty in finding private land to hunt. Just last year I lost the only private hunting spot that I had. Had it for 23 seasons, so it was a very big disappointment to lose it. Didn't even bother looking for another. Found an inexpensive outfitted hunt in another state not too far away from NY, where I was also issued a handful of doe tags, so for me it was a NO brainer which was the better deal. Just not worth the headaches in NY for me.

Since you are from the city without any hunting friends, finding private land to hunt will be a monumental challenge for you. If you lived in a rural area things might be a little easier, but treking upstate on summer weekends to look for places to hunt will require a LOT of effort with probably very little to show for it. I don't mean to discourage you, just giving you some straight facts here. If I were you, I'd look into public land areas. The time you'll waste looking for private land, you can find a few public areas and maybe scout them before the season.

I'm looking on the bright side. It would probably benefit this forum in the long run. -

My suggestion would be that we start a collection here and send these confederate flag wavers on a small vacation to Detroit. We would see how bold they would be waving that flag over there. LOL -
Good catch, Biz. I didn't click on the picture to get a closer look. Didn't see the kid up there. That's the couples 8 year old kid, that they had out of wedlock. Kind of crazy since the groom is only 17 and the bride 16 on their wedding day. LOL
-
Too bad the girl wasn't wearing a white dress. My caption would have been, "VJP giving his daughter away on her wedding day." LOL
-
No doubt. And they probably will be getting divorced at an even greater rate than normal couples. Look at it this way, most of these gay couples probably won't have (adopted) children to try to keep them together as is the case with many straight couples, so a bad bitch session or two between them and off to divorce lawyers they will go.
-
I don't see it as a threat to democracy, but I do see it as a threat to any morals that still might be left in this society. They can have gay sex until the cows come home for all I care, but why do I need to hear and read about it 24/7?? This decision will just give them more fuel. Meanwhile I will be condemned if I say that I believe in old fashioned family values.
-
Yeah, dangerous for you two maybe? LOL

I think their monuments are safe. Most everyone realizes that it was a different time with different standards. No leader has ever been squeeky clean where someone couldn't find some dirt on him. Times change and what was acceptable once may not be in the future, be it symbols, what we can or cannot say, do or own, etc.. It's not always for the better, but things are always changing whether we like it or not. Man hasn't totally destroyed himself or the world yet, has even made his life better in so many ways from what our forefathers had to suffer through, so I guess not all change is doom and gloom.
-
Come on now, Culver, you are going VJP-Papist on us here! LOL There is an exception to every rule I guess, but I highly doubt there are too many blacks who would be proud to display a confederate flag. Jeez, I'm worried about you now, maybe those two slipped you some tainted venison chili or something? LOL
-
As lame of an attempt as you two have made, I would assume that your "point" would be that banning an inanimate object such as a flag would be nothing more than window dressing for the issues at hand here? Am I wrong? So why then are even Governors of some southern states calling for it's removal from state buildings? Is it all just politics, or just maybe some people are starting to realize that the confederate flag is a symbol of an unfortunate time in American history and maybe it's time to finally bury it from display on public buildings? I fully realize that a lot of it is just symbolism, BUT why is it so bloody difficult for you to try to look at things from another persons perspective here? Is it OK for a black man to have it waved in his face today, when he damned well knowns that those who waved it in 1860 wanted his great-great grandfather to remain a slave? Yes, banning the flag won't change history, BUT why is it so important to have this flag wave in the wind 150+ years after the south lost the civil war? As much as some might be overreacting to getting rid of this flag, the likes of you two are definitely overreacting to this too. In my opinion, as with many southern whites who now finally see no reason to have it flown over state building, just get rid of the damned thing and the case will be closed. No freaking skin off anyone's nose if it doesn't get flown so why make it such a big issue? If anything the southern white republicans will win points with blacks for agreeing to this.
-
What are your points??? In one post you said that democrats started the KKK. Do you know that most ALL southern white democrats abandoned the party and then became republicans during the 70's? Majority of their offspring are still republican today. VJP brings up one stupid college professor who is somehow offended with the American flag? What does ONE stupid professor compare to maybe millions who think that the confederate flag shouldn't fly on top of southern state capitol buildings? You two continue to twist and turn totally irrelevant BS to try to make points. I can assure you both that it's not working. It's only making you two look more paranoid and ridiculous with every post you make.
-
Doesn't surprise me actually. Not much that Papist and VJP cut and paste to their posts here is written by people who are very bright, so this is to be expected. Got to give Papist and VJP a lot of credit, though. They do their damndest to find irrelevant articles, links and pics to post here to support their nonsense. Even if they have to pull it out of their butts, you can be sure they'll find some sort of drivel. Unbelievable!

I think if someone fires off 10 or 15 rounds within a half hour it won't bother too many people in a rural setting. But I've heard people say, even on this site a couple years ago that they fire off like a tin (a few hundred rounds) with their AK rifles in their backyards within close distance to a number of homes. That is BS! These people either need to find some property deep in the woods somewhere to shoot away from civilization, OR find themselves a range to shoot at. Even most ranges won't put up with some clown firing off hundreds of rounds just because they want to see how hot the gun barrel will get!! These type of people are nothing more than a NUISANCE, whether they are firing in their backyards or at a range.
-
You are right, there isn't much difference. I guess some people live in a remote enough place where gunfire noise won't be bothersome to any neighbors, but even in many rural settings these days there are enough houses around to hear it. And gunfire is LOUD and can carry a good distance. I guess in some places it's an acceptable rural sound, but I think a good argument could be made against it just as with fireworks.
-
I respect your reply here. You are looking at things from someone elses point of view which is how we should all look at things. Doing something just because we CAN without regard to others is where I start losing respect for many.

I find it quite interesting that there has been such a quick change in ideology by so many conservatives on the confederate flag issue after this shooting. Wasn't this issue so near and dear to so many conservative hearts down there?? Seems like most all of the southern states are now pushing to pull these flags down. Reality is starting to sink in I guess? The republicans know damned well that this issue would seriously hurt them in the next presidential election, so now they are starting to sing a different tune. Just shows you how politics works and how quickly politicians can start pushing for something they didn't push for before. Just as I predicted in another thread that some serious national gun control measures would finally come to fruition with the next republican president along with one or more of these mass type shootings. Let this confederate flag issue be an example for those who doubt it. Just watch and see what happens.
-
Oh man, if that isn't the quote of the year around here!!!!!
-
And when will they need it? LOL As much as I think Cuomo and NYS are paranoid over thinking that a gun with a pistol grip or flash suppressor somehow makes it more dasterdly than one without these things, I also think many gun owners are just as paranoid thinking they somehow have a super-duper weapon just because their guns have these things. It's all cosmetic. The good shot with a plain jane gun will probably outshoot most of these guys with the AR type guns with all the bells and whistles attached.
-
I don't understand what you are trying to say?? I don't think hunting licenses sold has anything to do with the amount of people owning assault styled weapons. I would say the majority of hunters do not own assault styled weapons, while there are plenty of non-hunters that do. I do have a ruger 10/22, but I have no need for it to be "tricked out", since the normal configuration stock does the job just the same for me. I think most hunters that might own one probably have the garden variety version like I do, which needs no registration.

How could people in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Staten Island register their assault styled weapons with the state when possession of such weapons has been illegal in NYC since 1991? Something doesn't make sense here. LICENSE DIVISION RIFLE / SHOTGUN SECTION 120-55 Queens Blvd, B-11 Kew Gardens, New York 11424 718-520-9300 Assault Weapon Ban On August 16, 1991 the Mayor signed Local Law 78 which banned the possession and sale of certain rifles and shotguns that have been classified as “ASSAULT WEAPONS.” THE FOLLOWING IS THE DEFINITION OF AN ASSAULT WEAPON (a) Any semiautomatic centerfire or rimfire rifle or semiautomatic shotgun which has one or more of the following features: 1.
