This is the best deal I've seen for a brand new climbing stick. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/guide-gear-20-climbing-stick.aspx?a=546743

I don't speak French, I speak Redneck!

I'm looking for a new or used Ladder Treestand. If you have one you want to sell and are around central NY send me a PM. The only criteria I have is they must have a seat on them and the platform needs to go all the way to the tree trunk. I hate those ladder stands that have the platform that don't reach the trunk, its easy to step in that gap if you're not paying attention! Also, the taller, the better.

Exactly what I do. Friends look at me like I'm nuts when I'm out in my yard shooting 90 yards. They ask me if I can shoot deer that far. I tell them I would never take a shot that far but it sure makes those 30 yard shots feel like chip shots! -
Maybe they were copper solids and not SST's. They are both copper colored. He may have been mistaken.

What everyone's trying to point out here is that you will be way more accurate with the proper matching equipment. The reason you don't feel comfortable past 10 yards is because any farher than that your arrows probably don't fly very straight. I have never seen anyone that couldn't shoot well out to 20 yards with a little practice with the properly set up bow. It probably has less to do with you not being a good enough shot yet and more to do with your equipment. BTW, 2216's do not weight the same as 2117's. They are not the same spine either. -
I tried to mow my lawn on Wednesday when it was nice.....it was like mud bogging!

To each his own. He asked for advice and I gave it. If he don't want to listen that's up to him. If he went to any pro shop that was worth a crap they would tell him the same thing. Like Doc said....consistency is key in Archery! -

I can tell you right now that the 2216's weigh more than the 2117's, so they are not the same. Then you throw in the fact that you dont know what any of your field points weigh and I can almost guarantee you that every one of your arrows is a different weight. You need to shoot one size and one brand of arrow to have consistency. I've been shooting for 30 years and was in the Empire State Games for archery, so I'm not just some internet Cowboy trying to make you spend money. -

You need to just get a dozen of the same arrows that are the correct spine for your setup and get a pack of field tips that are the same weight and throw your other field points in the trash so you wont mix them up. Then bring your bow to a professional and have it tuned properly. Then all you have to worry about is practicing your shooting! -
Do they do good damage? I'm changing slugs this year!
-
Yep...I think its the copper. Its too hard of a metal to expand.
-
These shoot great out of my 870 but I've found over the years that they don't expand worth crap when you shoot a deer. They just drill a hole right through the deer and alot of times you wont get a very good blood trail. I shot a buck in the neck with one and it blew through the spine, which dropped the deer in its tracks, but while skinning it out I found the slug lodged on the opposite side of the enty hole between the hide and the meat. After going through almost the entire deer and the spine, the slug only had a small dent in the tip of it! I also shot an 11 point one year in the snow and he ran about 100 yards after being doulble lunged. There were only tiny pin drops of blood in the snow. If there wasn't snow, I would have been thinking I missed that deer. They are accurate slugs but beware of the damage they do to deer.

My dogs doing the same damn thing to my yard, killing all my grass!

Its amazing the lack of respect some people have for Police Officers, until they need one! As far as I'm concerned, if you act like some dirtbag punk towards a Police Officer then you get what you deserve!

If you're only shooting 10 yards it will be very hard to tell if they're flying straight. Shoot them at 20 or 30 yards and see how they fly. -
I have a friend thats a Police Officer. I harrass him on a daily basis!

That sucks! I've had it happen to me before. Now I have a Generac Generator on my house.

You wouldn't believe the amount of people who put them out and claim ignorance. There was a thread on AT the other day from a guy who lived in Syracuse asking if the salt blocks from Tractor Supply work as good for deer as a Trophy Rock. WTF!! If you cant kill a deer without a salt lick then stay home!!

I hunt mainly public land so I always have to be keeping an eye on whats going on in the woods I hunt. Theres a lot of different factors that can alter deer movement on public land. Last year the apples didn't grow, so the deer had totally different movement patterns than usual. If I didn't go into the woods to check on the apple growth during the summer I would have been hunting dead areas.
-
I would keep my eye on the deer trail that runs the ridge between the creek and the hidden field. It looks like a great funnel. They will run that ridge instead of climbing down the steep bank or stepping into the open field. I also see some other nice funnels there. I would set trail cams on the field edges you think they are feeding in and also try to locate bedding areas, that way you have a general idea of where they are coming and going to.

The only thing you need to be the least concerned with on a WB is the noise when drawing/shooting and the fact they can be a little rough on fletches/feathers. The accuracy factor is a non issue.

If you shoot the proper spine arrow, you wont have to worry about that. -

Another thing to consider is that if your arrows dont fly straight with field tips they will look like a knuckleball when you put broadheads on them! Besides getting bent, aluminum arrows can also get dented from being hit with another arrow and it will be very hard to notice. Get yourself some carbon arrows, either they're broke or they're good. No need to worry about them being bent or dented. If you're worried about ruining them when practicing, just put 5 different bullseyes on your target and shoot one arrow at each one per round. -
Cabelas is way better than Bass Pro. If Buffalo dont want them, they can come to Syracuse!
