Cabin Fever

Just got a pic of a tiny fawn! Not sure I've ever seen one so small in December!

I went out this morning to walk around and look for tracks in the fresh snow. While I was out I checked cams. Early Tuesday morning, I had pics of a doe walking by the cam and within 16 minutes, 4 small bucks were trailing her!! She must have been hot!

Out of Likes, but this should get a LOL at least! Ain't that the truth!!

At the time, I honestly had no idea how big (or small) it was! LOL He was looking in my direction when I first scoped him, so I didn't see points! Once I confirmed bone on his head, that was good enough and I touched it off!! The mood I was in, I didn't know or care if he was a big spike! LOL

Not much, but by God he'll due after hunt #62!! I was in a stand 60 yards from my yard! When I shot, he bolted directly towards my house! LOL Funny that he dropped ~100 yards from my house!! Had dinner and just dragged him in! Thought I better have a celebratory shot of Tequila before I start skinning!

No pressure though, right? LOL Unfortunately, I can't shoot what's not there. I can't possibly try any harder. I go out every evening with the same results. This evening will be hunt #62. I will be happy when the season is over...

Same here Brian. Have several night time pics, that's keeping me motivated. No real shooters since 11/19 though. But, I've since lowered my standards.... significantly! LOL Yesterday afternoon, I had to laugh and shake my head at the amount of tracks in my back yard and back in the woods on the way to my stand. But yet, the woods are void of life during the day! I put a cam in my yard and this small buck is out there just about every night! In the pic, he's about 40 yards from my house! LOL The doe tripped my security cam the other night!

On a positive note, at least you saw deer. That's a nice reminder every once in a while. For you and I, seeing 2 is like being covered with deer!

That's the truth!! Along the same lines, I get so annoyed when people say to me, "Yeah, but you get deer every year!" They have NO idea how much time and effort I have to put into it to tag a deer!!! I'm not blessed with having a lot of deer around, so I have to bust my ass to get what I do. This year, conservation is more important to me than filling tags and my freezer. There are only a few does around, and even fewer fawns, so I'm not planning on shooting does, hoping to help next years recruitment. My son and daughter have both agreed, they don't want to shoot does either. I have already lowered my standards significantly since bow season on what buck I will shoot, but....

Thankfully I didn't start bowhunting this fall until 10/15, otherwise I probably would have been burned out long ago. The damned deer are just completely nocturnal! My cam check yesterday confirmed that. No travel necessary between bedding and feeding areas... Step in, step out! No reason to move during daylight hours. Can you hold a light steady? LOL
