  1. Maggots only eat dead tissue is incorrect. Being an upstate farmer I know this for a fact. Having lost 2 baby calves in the past 3 years due to maggots eating around the tail area of the calf and going into the rectum eating them internally. We tried to save them both with treatments but they one lasted about a week before they expired. I still believe maggots are a factor here.
  2. Look at his neck. He has lumps on it like fly larva’s under the skin (a pocket of fly egg's) as you see on cow's some time. When the pocket of eggs hatch it makes a flesh wound kind of like a pimple on a human. Now you have an open sore and maggots. I am thinking this guy's rear end is being eating buy these maggots, it is irritating and that is why he is trying to lick his rear end. If my thoughts are wrong then I would go with the yote thoughts.
  3. I seen a buck this morning cross the road and down through a soybean field at a medium trot and his nose to the ground the whole time. I think the bucks are out doing some hunting themselfs.
  4. Let's not beat him up guy's. He is a 15 year old young man learning to be an ethnical hunter. He has just gotten off on the wrong foot. I know we all have made mistakes in the past. We live and learn by them. Joseph from one hunter to another you may want to follow mxsmitz201 advise and read the book. When somebody gets caught by the DEC doing something illegal, telling them that you did not know that law will get you no place but the tickets he was going to give you anyway. It is your responsibility as a hunter to know all the laws of DEC if you wish to hunt. If you are unsure if something is legal or not, check with your local DEC before doing something or ask the folks here on this forum. I know I will help any younger hunter become a better hunter if I can. Good luck this season and read that book because I did not know is NO excuse.
  5. We had this problem one year on the land I hunt. Samething posted very clearly but the person left a self climber at the bottom of the tree. We took the climber and left a note that if they wanted it to call us with our numbers. Guess what? We still have the treee stand. LOL Called the game warden and he said as long as the land is posted we had every right to take the stand. Good luck
  6. Red that is exaclty why I process all my own deer. I know exactly what I am eating then. Good luck on the big buck.
  7. This one was taken off Peterboro Rd. in Vernon 7J but I also hunt 6P in Vernon on my cusions land.
  8. Isnydes do you hunt? If so do not shoot your self in the foot. The anti hunters have enough of their own fuel. We do not need fellow hunters helping them.
  9. Cool video and nice shot. Thanks for sharing RIT
  10. The proper way to dispose of a carcass is to put in in with your weekly trash. I live in the area that had CWD and that is what I was told by the local DEC officer.
  11. That is easy. It is a tree that has falling down going from left to right in the picture. Just Kidding. I have to go along with the group it looks like a small bear.
  12. I two today. One for 6P & one for 7J. I leave right on the line.
  13. That is a weird one but just the other day in Vernon Center 7J I seen one similar to this buck. Hid main beams come straight out of his head about 3 - 4" turn out to just about even with his ears and then went straight up about another 7 - 8" looked like someone slapped him in the antlers and made them straight. Very odd. Nice deer though Beach.
  14. Nice bird there Stubbz but you should really feel gilty for leaving your partner at work by him self LOL Nice bird. You know I will take my time for deer season.
  15. We did see the 2010 buck during season in 2010. We did not see any bucks close to this size in the 2011 season. We have alot on camera but nothing during the hunting season and infact we never seen the 2011 buck after velvet. I will just have to keep the cameras rolling. I have started a file of pictures so I can compair year after year.
  16. I have 2 pictures of a buck from 2010 and then 2 pictures of a buck from 2011. I do not think they are the same deer but my buddy that hunts with me feels that they are. What do you folks think? Same buck or different buck's and why? The buck in velvet had is picture taken about 30 yards away from the picture of the buck from 2010.
  17. I have a 26 horse power Kawaski liquid cooled enigne for sale that has 80 - 100 hours on it. When put away in a crate 4 years ago it ran but I have not run it since. The key way on the crank shaft is rounded out and will need to be machined or replaced. Looking to get $250.00 for this eninge. If interested please call 315-225-2759 and leave a message. I will call you back. I am located in the Vernon, NY area.
  18. As my signature says below. I have always been part of PETA.
  19. A few years ago on the farm we caught one in alive trap and man that thing made noise's I have never heard before. They can really scream when they want to.
  20. Shoot it and eat it. You will not like the taste of the horns anyway.
  21. My brother in law called me last night, said when he was going down the road by our property on the tractor he thought he seen a dead deer in the ditch that was caped out. I stoped this morning and sure enough he was right. It was a deer carcas. Some body shot this deer in the neck with a gun (we are in 7J southern zone), cut the head off, took the hide off, pulled the backstrapes, and took some of the meat off the hind quarters (not all of it) leaving the rest to rot. I was more then mad when I found this as you could tell it had not been hit by a car, it was shot. I called the local conservation office and spoke to him and he is going to be watching the area. I have not comfimed it but I heard that just around the corner on another road that there have been carcas dumped as well. I will be given all tips to the conservation officer on this because I want this or these S.O.B's caught. I just do not understand why people kill aminals illegally and waste all of that great meat. It just makes me mad thinkg about it. I hope they get caught and I am there to see it. Sorry had to vent a little.
