  1. Thanks Pops(Jim W) for the congrats. It was a long hard drag but def well worth it! This year I am gonna help you drag out his grandpa!
  2. Bigfoot was playing fetch with his pet Mountain Lion when the gator came out of the river, grabbed the ball and disappeared!
  3. Doc, I believe also saw the show you were talking about in the OP. In the end the producers were not happy with Jim because he did not get the "Kill Shot" on camera. the animal could not be seen but he shot anyway. For once, it was personal satisfaction over "getting it on film". I used to watch a lot of these shows but now that my son is going to be hunting soon I have stopped. I don't want him watching these shows and thinking he is going to go out and shoot a monster in a 1/2 hour. I still do watch some shows like Jim Shockey and Team Fitzgerald on VERSUS. I still watch Realtree Roadtrips because I think Michael Waddell is actually truly excited about hunting and he is entertaining in the process.
  4. This is mine from last year. His headgear is not too big but he is a decent sized deer. He is my first Buck ever! Now I can't wait to go after his mom and dad this year.
  5. I think that if a fellow hunter wants to let a 3 1/2 yo 8 point walk on the last day of the season then that is what that hunter has paid his hunting license fee to do. If another hunter wants to shoot and kill a spike at 7:15 am on opening day then that is what that hunter has paid his hunting license fee to do. I shot my first deer last year and it would not have happened if there were AR in my area because his headgear was too small.(I have tried to post a pic in the Last years deer section but it wont let me) In the future I might think twice about shooting a smaller deer but I will never base my decision on his headgear. I look at body size and I will always take a doe first if possible. We should all support our fellow ethical hunters in whatever they decide makes them happy in the field. I have to agree with Sampotter in that success should not be based solely on your death toll but it also should not be based solely on the inches of antlers the deer has. Success should be based on the personal level of enjoyment a hunter gets while afield.
  6. What am I doing wrong? I have tried to post my pic but after I click Post, the page stalls far a minute and then goes blank. I have tried this with Firefox and Internet Explorer on 2 separate days now.
  7. I am very glad I found this site and forum. I used to go to Huntingnet but the forum there turned into a Pennsylvania b@#ch fest. I stopped going there about a year ago. Every once in a while I would just go on to see if anything has changed but it is still the same. Then the other day I saw a post about this site and I came a running. Thank you for creating this site. I never heard of Empire but I wish I had. I look forward to some good discussions with NY hunters.
  8. Last year there were med for 1st and none for 2nd dmp in 6s. I submitted 6s for both 1st and 2nd. Got denied on 1st and then got a yes for 2nd in 6s. It just means that you cannot get 2 permits for that WMU. I did not care about getting 2 permits, I just wanted at least 1. The cool thing is that because I was denied for my first choice I received a preference point even though I got the permit for my second choice.
  9. I live in the city of Oneida in Madison county. I would like to find a bunch of guys or gals who would be willing to start a hunting club. I figured if I could round up 5-10 people by Christmas we could find a piece of property to lease before the 2011 season and split the cost.I used to have a lease with my father and uncles in the town of Greenfield near Saratoga but Finch Pruyn sold the land and we were basically forced out. It was tough the last 7 years for me there because it was a 2 hour drive so losing it was not a heartbreak. My father would be the only one willing to travel out to this area seeing they all live in the Albany area so I need to find some people around here. Please respond or send me a message if you are interested and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks.
  10. I live in the city of Oneida and hunt a farm in the town of Ilion. I used to live in the Albany area and hunted in 4L but the deer population is scarce there. I just shot my first deer(5 point) last year on the farm in Ilion. I would like to find a couple more decent areas to hunt a little closer to my house. I have always hunted state land and last year was the first time I hunted private land. Anyone got any suggestions about state land in Madison/Oneida counties? I also want to join a rod and gun club. Does anyone know of any good ones around my area?
