  1. Wow Dude. that is a HAMMER. Hope to see some pics with your hands wrapped around him . what a deer
  2. Hey Man, Yea I dropped it off at Amato's at like 8am yesterday morning. I actually saw a doe and a spike hanging when I was dropping him off, maybe it was yours. Guys seemed real nice and I think it will be ready tomorrow. Can't wait to get my meat and cape!
  3. Dude thank you SO much man. I'll never forget last night for the rest of my life. Hope I'm heading in there and dragging one out with you this weekend. Thanks Guys, appreciate all the congratulations. I can't get any work done today cause I'm still so fired up.
  4. GOT EM!!! Went in around midnight for fear of coyotes getting him... WHAT A SLOB. He was legitimately 5 yards away from where I last saw him. First shot looked like it hit the stomach and exited the back leg.. must have hit him far back quartering towards. The second shot DRILLED him and got lungs. I can't even express how happy I was when we saw him last night. 2 Buddys helped me get him out. I think i slept about 2 hours last night I was so excited. For this to be my first buck ever, i can't even put into words how I have been feeling. I know he is a monster and possibly a deer of a lifetime. Appreciate all the advice guys. Bringing it to the butcher now.
  5. I hope so man. Im freaking out! Appreciate all the advice guys. I hope the 2nd shot clipped a lung or the heart or something. Can shoot all the arrows you want and practice every day.. when that big buck comes out and is in front of you...its a different story Will let you guys know how I do tomorrow
  6. Appreciate the advice.... I'll keep that in mind...
  7. Was in the stand for about 20 minutes and decided to put my gloves on because i was getting cold. Wasn't really paying attention and was probably moving around like a maniac when I look down and see this absolute slob of a deer 60 yards away raking this huge tree. I was absolutely frozen. Turns out to be this huge 8 pointer that I've been after. The wind was swirling all around and he kept raising his head and smelling the air, so i thought he picked me up and i was done for!! He kept raking and wasn't moving, so i took the grunt tube out and made a few grunts. He instantly picks his head up and starts walking towards me. I was legit shaking at this point and somehow manage to get the bow off the hook and wait for him to come in for a shot. He comes about 25 yards and freezes and starts smelling all around. He then begins to turn like he is going to take off the opposite direction when I saw my opportunity. I drew and slammed him with one. He jumped about 3' then just slowly walked forward towards this large tree about 10 yards away. I couldn't believe i missed!! So I knocked another arrow and drilled him again. This time he took off like a bat out of hell and ran over this ridge and disappeared. I honestly couldn't sit in the tree more then 2 minutes and had to go see what these arrows looked like. First arrow went right through him and gut shot him SH*T!!!. I then went over and couldn't find my 2nd arrow, but did find a few drops of bright red blood around the area. Arrow must have hit the shoulder or something and didn't pass through. So I backed out for about an hour then came back in and just looked for a bit of blood around the 2nd spot I shot him. Went about 15 yards in and then just decided to back out until tomorrow morning. I feel sick over the bad shot, so hopefully the 2nd shot hit a lung or something and he is down for the count. This is DEFINITELY going to be a sleepless night for me. Really hope I can recover him tomorrow morning. Buck fever is the real deal and I can't even recall where the 2nd shot hit I was so flustered. It was an absolute adrenaline overdose. Few pics of the arrow and the deer. This would be my first buck ever, so I'm praying he went down!
  8. I had been hunting from a home made ground blind made from logs, but I had to stick my head up to really get a clear view of anything and felt really exposed. I've been hunting ladder stands, but just put up my first hang on. To be honest, i'm still not 100% comfortable with it. I replaced the cables with chain, and added 2 ratchet straps to it. I'm 6'3" 220 lbs and it seems pretty damn sturdy with the extra support. IMO, hang on stands are the best. I'm waiting for Sunday morning to hunt my new spot. Supposed to be in the 30's so hopefully that will put the deer on their feet a bit
  9. Ive had a pretty awesome first week of hunting so far. This is my second year at it and I've been fortunate enough to see some good action. Went up to my cuz's hunting cabin up in Roxbury for the first 3 days of the season. I really wanted to tag a bear, so I set up over one of his food plots that he had seen bear activity at and hoped to see some action. On the 2nd day of the hunt I was fortunate enough to have a 150lb sow come in with two cubs. Obviously not going to shoot a mother and cubs, I watched them play around on their two legs while the mother was looking around for food. One of the cubs was chasing the other one, right to the tree i was sitting in. Not knowing I was sitting 15' above them, one of the cubs actually started climbing my tree. This is when the mother walked over and started to smell the ladder of the stand and knew something was up. She ended up taking off and the cubs quickly followed, but I was basically $hltting my pants. Saturday I came back to Westchester and sat for the afternoon hunt. Few does came by the stand in the first few hours, but let them walk. I decided to take my rattlers out and see if I can call in this big 7 that I have on camera. Started rattling with no response, waited an hour until it was almost last shooting light and tried them again. Within 2 minutes I had buck come in. The deer looked like it had a nice big body, but It was getting dark and i couldn't tell if it was the big boy or not. I decided to let him walk. He ended up seeing me while I was moving around trying to see how big he was, and he ran off snorting and wheezing for a good 2 minutes. Sunday morning I went to my other spot in Westchester and posted up in my stand. Within 30 minutes of sitting I had 2 does come in. I decided I had passed up on enough already this season and decided to take one. I picked the bigger of the two and waiting for her to come in. As soon as she turned her head to look around i drew on her. Waited for a perfect broadside shot and smoked her. She went about 30 yards and dropped. My first deer ever was down! After about 10 minutes of not moving, I got out of the stand and went to go check her out. Both lungs were deflated and i'm pretty sure I got the heart too. She wasn't very big at all, but I was super happy with her. I have definitely been lucky so far this season, but hope I can take down the big boy soon. I can't even tell you how addicted I am to bow hunting now. -Stevie Sac
  10. What a stud. Hope you get him dude
  11. I've had my camera out for a month already on a heavily used path with a great scrape tree off of it. gotten pics of a shit ton of Doe, a few 4 ptrs and one nice 6 so far. Checked it the other day and these two big boys were on it. Gotta hope they stick around for another month. They are both gorgeous deer, but the one in the back has me drooling. Cant wait for the season!!
  12. Was hunting with Rage 2 blades last year and was getting super frustrated with the rattling of the broad head and how they would sometimes come apart. I picked up a pack of the Killzone COC 2 blades and they feel much stronger and better built. Anyone use these and have any comments on em? Thanks!
  13. Plan on going out tomorrow for a few hours at first light. Wanted to know if hunting on the full moon is any good? I know its going to snow about 2" too, so dont know how that is going to effect their feeding/movement. Gonna go in hard anyway and hopefully fill my tag!
  14. This was the first year I have ever went hunting and have absolutely fallen in love with it. Picked up a bow in late october and on my first sit ever, saw a nice 7 ptr and took a shot and missed him! Ever since then I have passed a bunch of does been playing a game of cat and mouse with this guy. I have seen him during the day on two other occasions, but was well outside of my range. I keep picking him up on my trail camera and seems he has went completely nocturnal ( unfortunately I may have spooked him). this passed saturday night I pull into my buddies house ( where I have been hunting) to crack a few beers when I look out the window and see him... my deer just staring at me from 50 yards away on the side of his house. After looking at him for about 15 seconds, I turn the car off and he just takes off and disappears into the woods. I dont know if I was excited or pissed off, but was definitely cool checking him out. I come back 4 days later to check my camera and seems he was moving around the area around 6am that day. This buck has gotten in my head and he has my number big time! I read a really good article on "Bowhunting" magazine about post rut hunting and nocturnal bucks slipping up in certain circumstances. I am going to lay off the hunting pressure until one of these situations comes up, then I am going in hard. Regardless if I take him or not, the back and forth between this guy alone has been fun as hell... and just means that he will be an nice slammer next season. Pic of him
  15. Do you think frozen bunker/ Bunker chum or any type of chum would work? I have access to smaller chum blocks and they stink like hell. Nothing like the smell of old chopped up fish. Any chance that may scare em away?
  16. Got this guy on my camera from earlier this week. He looks nice and full bodied. I heard of peoples cats missing in the area... may have to take him down. I hear they are hard to get with the bow, but love a challenge.
  17. Awesome.. can finally step my hunting game up. Exactly the review i wanted to hear. thx a bunch
  18. Hey Guys, This is my first season hunting / Bow hunting and for the passed few weeks ive just been posting up in some cover and hunting from the ground. My cousin is an avid hunter and told me I should pick up a climbing tree stand for my area. I did some reasearch and ordered the 'Summit open shot SD climber'. I read a bunch of good reviews, but wanted to know if anyone on here has used it and what they think. Thanks a bunch, SS
  19. I just bought my first bow three weeks ago and got set up with a Quest Rogue by G5. I have never shot another bow in my life, so I have zero legs to stand on when talking about bows, but I love it. I have read nothing but good things about it and Ive heard it is incredibly well made for its $ point.
  20. I got the jacket and pants two weeks ago. Love em! Very quiet and very comfortable. I had a small buck stare directly at me while sitting at a base of a tree and he just turned his head and kept walking. Great buy
  21. Thanks for the welcome fellas. IDK whats worse, my addiction to Offshore shark/tuna fishing, or my new addiction to bow hunting. My girlfirend and bank account will be the judge in the next few weeks
  22. Finally listened to all my buddies and took all the courses this summer and decided to pick up a bow two weeks ago. After the first 10 minutes of firing some arrows, I absolutely fell in love with it. Read a S*%t ton of material for about two weeks straight and after shooting about 500 arrows, I decided to get into the woods and give it a try. Got permission to hunt up at my buddies house, so I looked around property for some life and finally saw some promising signs ( fresh scrapes..ect) and posted up 20 yards away at the base of a tree. Have to say that just being out there alone was amazing. Within the first 20 mins I spotted a doe about 100 yards away just leasurely hanging out and already had the blood pumping in my veins. I bought a cheap buck caller and was periodically giving a few grunts. 20 mins go buy and I hear some rustling to the right of me. Figuring it was a squirrel running around, I slowly turn and see a gorgeous 6 pt buck about 30 yards away, slowly walking my direction. I couldnt have been less prepared at that moment for this deer to walk through. My bow was basically lieng on the ground beside me and I didnt even have an arrow nocked. By some miracle, I was able to grab my bow, nock and arrow, and draw without this buck seeing me. I waited for him to get completely broadside and took the shot. I watched as the arrow flew about 2" above his back and he ran about 40 yards and just sat there staring at me stomping his hoofs, looking around to see what the hell just happened. I had fired about 60 arrows that day before I went out and was confident of my ability to make a good vidal shot at that distance, but nerves had gotten to me and it was 100% human error. I couldnt believe how bad I just blew it. But I sat there quietly for about another hour and kept periodically trying to call in another buck. about 20 minutes go buy when I see this 4 pt buck running full steam towards me. He stops about 15 yards infront of me, turns around so he is quartering away from me, and just stands there for 2 mins looking around. He was too small to shoot, so I just watched him and waited for him to walk off. He was so close that I coudl probably have thrown a spear at him, all while sitting at the base of a tree. First time hunting in my life and I saw two bucks within the first two hours. My Buddies couldnt believe how lucky I was, considering some of them have hunting for an entire season and not gotten to draw on a buck. Sounds a bit odd, but I am glad that I missed that 6 pter. I feel as thought I didnt deserve to take down a deer like that on my first trip out and havent put enough time in to earn that kill. Non the less, was an incredible day and It is safe to say that I am absolutely hooked. I know that I made every single beginners mistake in the book, but know now what I have to do now to get tuned in. Stevie Sacs
