I guess Woodcock never asked advise or even asked a simple question on here. My guess is that he knows everything he needs to know and would rather not help anyone out. I was looking for information about size and terrain, not asking for anyone's "spot".

Ask the several hundred other hunters who viewed your post...... perhaps you'll have company when you go out. Honestly, I don't understand questions like this on a public message board. Even a few additional hunters on any of these properties makes YOUR hunt more difficult. Do your own homework and scouting......... Wow! Thanks for your input, glad that there are people willing to share information. I asked if anyone knew about it, never said I wasn't going to scout or "do my homework". But again thanks for your input an I hope you never ask for assistance or information.

I posted in the turkey hunting thread the other day but haven't gotten a response. Does anyone know anything about Wonder Lake in putnam county?

Hey folks I was just wondering if anyone here has hunted Wonder Lake in Patterson, Putnam county. I had never even heard of it until today when my cousin mentioned it as a place to look into. We usually hunt California Hill and Fahnstock but always up to find new ground. Does anyone here know anything about this area? Thanks.

Bkln wasn't planning on opening day. I just said once the season opens. Plan on heading in during the week because my days off fall on Monday and Tuesday the first week of gun season. But thanks for the heads up!

I'm looking to head to California hill once gun season opens. Saw a lot if promising spots during spring turkey and earlier in the fall when I was just out walking in the woods. Anyone been in there recently?

I believe crossbows can be used anywhere except 3s from November 1 on, as long as you have a muzzleloader tag.

Call DEC and ask for a recommendation.

Beautiful dogs. Would love to have one for pheasant and rabbit hunting. Not sure the wife will go for it though.

Headed out today for my second ever attempt at pheasant hunting. Went out with my cousin and his chocolate lab. First spot we hit was a did. Headed to next spot and got one bird. Spent the next few hours trying to get another with no luck. Went a grabbed lunch at the car and to figure out where to head next. As we finished eating DEC pulled in to stock the fields. We decided to head back in since we knew there would be plenty of birds now. I missed on one and he got two in the next two or so hours. By that time there were shots coming from every direction and the dog was beat so we packed it in. I have to say though it was great to spend a day out hunting instead of my usual hiking around with my Remington and not seeing anything. I'm new to hunting and today was the first time I bagged anything. Looking forward to more successful hunts this year.

Could it be just average joes that don't abide by the law? DEC usually doesn't give cops a break on things like this.

Oh I know just saying that itbsucks that I have a fag that I am not gonna be able to use and wish I could get it to someone that could use it.

I really wish I could help. I have a bow/muzzle tag that I am not gonna be able to use. Got it expecting to be able to get a crossbow this year and funds didn't work out for me. So now I have an either sex bow/mz that is not gonna be used.

I have a 3s that I can't use, because I don't bow hunt (not paying attention to what I was doing when requesting my tags). Looking to hunt in new paltz a bit this season, I think it is 3j. Any takers?

So nice when people are so willing to help out. If you read the post I said that I had heard people agree and disagree with your point. I am looking for advice. Never said I had the correct answer! If you have no advice for other than whatever I buy will be bottom of the barrel I ask that you keep your opinion to yourself. I know that on my budget I will not be getting top of the line. What I want is something that will take down a deer and put meat in my freezer. For those that have offered or will offer advice I apologize for that rant and thank you for advice and welcome more. I will have to look more at the Barnett jackal. I was thinking of a recurve for ease of maintaining it. How hard is it to make minor repairs on a compound crossbow?

I have heard that from some and others disagree. I have been told as long as the xbow is decent and u use good bolts and broadheads I will be fine. Still open to brand and model suggestions on all of this, xbow, bolts, and broadheads.

Come on guys. Some of you have to have suggestions for a new hunter on a budget.
