Treebark and leafy suits are great for turkey, depending on your setup. For deer and most ungulates, it's more about breaking up your silhouette. Successful predators of ungulates have larger patterns that keep them from seeing the whole body, and break it into pieces. KUIU fanboy here.

Fuel Filter Kit for MF-65 Diesel
UpStateRedNeck replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Ah the saga continues. Got the right filter, replaced it, still leaking. The can the filter sits in, is indented on the bottom such that its dimpled on one side and the O-Ring isn't sealing it anymore. Tap out the bottom a little bit on an anvil (my uncle, diesel mechanic gave me some help for a couple hours), still leaking. Add another O-Ring to the bottom, 7/16 I believe, and it leak is down to a drip every minute or so. Not bad, temporary workable. Fast forward to this morning where I try and get some brush hogging done before taking the kids somewhere, not only is it leaking faster again, but now the battery won't turn her over. Charged the battery for better part of an hour, up to about 28% charge, still no dice. Guessing the generator isn't charging the battery anymore. SO when my dad gets there we tow her with the truck, and she jumps and starts purring. We'll have to charge the battery at home overnight between uses I guess. But I really need to find a new can for this, or just replace the filter itself, and it needs to happen this week. This next weekend is my only free weekend in August and we have to disc + fertilize 3 plots to plant in early August. #3 in the diagram, part # 1850931M91. I swear this tractor exists to plague me. -

Primary fuel filter is back to it's old tricks now. Gotta get that sucker off there, replace the stage 1 and 2 filters with 1 new filter. Don't care what it is, had enough grief and leaked fuel that it's gotta go! Needs to happen soon, planting should be in the next 2 weeks. -

Bearded hen is back this year, smaller brood than usual. She's got a pretty long beard on her. -

One of the better growing seasons we've had in the past 10 years or so, can't believe how high it's getting in just the past 2 weeks. Can barely see the racks but they're in there almost every night. -
King andy declares gun state of emergency.
UpStateRedNeck replied to mowin's topic in General Chit Chat
Seems like Andy's usual nonsense, something that looks good on the surface, but probably won't hold up in court. Eventually we're going to have to have a residence in another state in order to buy anymore firearms for use in this state, because no manufacturer is going to sell here anymore. -

I know I'm just letting it fly into the wind here, but : That's like your parents telling you when you were a kid that there's starving kids in Uganda right now. Is it true? Yup! Are you still ticked off because you have to eat your greens? Yup! Unfortunately due to social media (used to be MTV in my day), it's worse than ever these days. Kids born into shitty lives in shitty homes in WHATEVER part of the country, trailer parks, public housing etc, all they see is social media telling them that everybody is living better than them. And that it's super cool to deal drugs and gang bang. It doesn't matter what reality is, and the reality is that there IS opportunity for even the poorest of folks, it's what they're being told by Jay-Z or Lil' Pump or whoever. You're not doing it right if you're not living that lifestyle. I agree the police should be allowed to do their job, but I also think there needs to be a cultural change on both sides of the fence. -

I don't think @moog5050 is debating that A) Andy is a gigantic crystalized turd stuck in all our collective butts B ) More gun control on law abiding citizens = Bad C) Criminals are out of control I think he was genuinely curious as to what in Gov. Scrotal Lesion's latest shenanigans was bad. Do we have to jump down somebodies throat? Especially when they open with "Not a fan of Cuomo either but....". Pretty sure we're all in the same corner here. -
First Grouse, Deer and Turkey with the old Mossberg 500. First Coyote with the old Marlin 22 mag my grandmother kept in the farmhouse. Still using the same bow, '08 Commander.

What's best for my situation.

I've been using a disc harrow to convert some old hay fields, lot of passes but it busts up the sod pretty good. No spray, fertilize, disc again, plant, roll. Been doing oats + clover. Our land is in the Ag program too, it'll get cut the end of July after the oats get chowed down. There's still plenty of Timothy's head and trefoil in it. The cut will leave most of the clover underneath, but they won't be hitting it as hard in the fall as they are now. I think if you did the same thing August post-cutting you'd have a good plot for October? -

Okay, the oats have come in hard now. Only took almost 2 months, but they're all knee high and the seed pods are splitting. Dear are going to be hammering it. -

I doubt the thumbnail uploaded is doing it justice, but the one at twilight on the 23rd, looks like alot of bone sticking up. Tough to get decent pictures when the grass is this high on a 2 acre plot. Lot of pictures of the grass blowing in the breeze. -

Footings for a small barn / shed
UpStateRedNeck replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
This is pretty dang close to what I had in mind. Maybe 6 feet deeper? 2x14' 2x6 for the front beams? The more look into this I realize I either need to curb by depth to the 12' or 15' range, or do a peaked roof. -
Upstates 2021 Foodplots
UpStateRedNeck replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Spent about 3 hours brush hogging yesterday, widened up a main trail and chopped it down, blasted a trail through 8 foot + brush around the perimeter. It's almost like a tunnel with how high the brush has gotten in this, what used to be a hay field. I think the plan is to plant something in the path up the middle, and something in the little 75x120 plot in the middle. More for my dad and his buddy to play around with, and test the quad planter than anything else. There's apple trees I'm trying to bring back from the brink near the kill plot in the east, and more on the north side. Hopefully the logging gets going soon and I can turn my attention to some bigger kill plots on the side of the hill. -

2 acres. The 4th bag was something my buddy at Deans Mills threw on, new brand he wanted me to test out. Was only planning on 3 bags. I'll see if there's anything in 2 weeks or so. -
