  1. Sampotter...I have to laugh we are both wrong...It's Sainfoin...I say sainfoil because while researching it some one was calling it "foil" and it stuck in my head.... http://www.plant-materials.nrcs.usda.gov/pubs/idpmcpg7792.pdf Geez- and I thought I had you there. I searched sanfoil and sainfoin came up but I only noticed the "foin" part.
  2. I would recommend planting a cereal grain like rye or oats which take off relatively well without incorporation. Do it before buzzing it with the weed whacker as the cut weeds will help keep moisture on the seeds similar to putting straw down on a new lawn seeding. Try the radishes but I'm thinking the small plot size will make it hard to keep the deer from eating them all up too soon. Next spring get in there and go to town.
  3. Maybe broadcast it before a forecasted heavy rain. I planted turnips and other brassicas a few years ago and they do a decent job of reseeding themselves. The fact that the grass there never grows very tall is an indicator of poor fertility, pH, or poor drainage. Hopefully it just needs a little fertilizer. Its too bad you can't sneak an ATV in there to do the best job possible.
  4. Exactly- look at this ADK buck I just posted: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/17630-adk-buck/ Just normal shedding.
  5. My cousin lives up in the Adirondacks and has had this buck bedding in her yard all summer. She has taken some awesome photos. Notice he has started to shed his summer coat in the last series of pictures. 7/18/13 7/24/13 8/4/13
  6. Based on the shed he found last year I'm thinking he's at least 5.
  7. He is still growing. I wish I had one like this on my cameras!
  8. Hey now, that one will work. Must be the southern ADKS if there is golden rod and apple trees?
  9. Relax everyone- I'm pretty sure its just the winter coat starting to come in. If you look at the base of the tail of the buck in the bottom RH corner picture you can clearly see the line where the brown hair meets the white. Also on his neck you can see his short blue coat coming in. Nothing to worry about.
  10. That's the way it should be- for disabled hunters.
  11. HA-HA! Yes, Doewhacker! Everyone is so caught up in the TV talk that nobody realizes what they are saying. He would have been born in February if he was anything "and a half". Cracks me up every time. Everyone is spending too much time looking at this buck's smallish rack and not the rest of him. There is no way that deer is only 2 and I'd be really surprised if he turned out to be only 3. He has a big, mature buck body and just look at his skull and face. Notice how small his ears look.... My bet is that he is 4, no less, no more, not even "and a half". Well maybe 4 and a sixth.
  12. F-THAT! There really isn't even that much powder behind it.
  13. Be patient.... His mass is deceiving as are his main beams. I think he could easily hit 150 when all done. Here is the shed from last year against a 52" shed.
  14. That big boy will be back once he sheds his velvet. They can move around so much between summer and fall.
  15. They are out there- somewhere. I've been daydreaming about this big 10 from last year. He was alive and well on 11/25/12.
  16. *Not my pictures!* An old college friend from a neighboring state sent me these. He has a shed from last year that is likely from him- scored 65". This buck is a STUD.
  17. Thanks Doc- I took it with my cell phone! The fawn was also trying hard to get rid of the deer flies that were on it's face.
  18. While checking on my corn's progress I noticed a bunch had been browsed. Then the culprit brazenly repeated the crime while I filmed in disbelief! The gall!
  19. West central, more or less near Raquette Lake He looks up in the 1st video too. He's no dummy.
  20. 9-10 feet Mine is on 20 I believe. I usually do 15-20.
  21. This may be the same bear from the last video- but his rump sure does shake as he walks in this clip. The nice mature buck is back along with another that is also showing some potential but is maybe only 3 years old.
