  1. So picture this: (I included an aerial photo to make this process easier)- my friend's property that I hunt has a big flooded swamp on it. It is at least 5 feet deep. A lot of the bucks I have seen or had pictures of have come out of this swamp. Along the east edge there is a hardwood stretch of woods and then a field. This makes a great funnel. At the far northeast corner of the swamp part of my friend's property there is some dry ground that he owns ( . 2 years ago I was in there in the spring and found a big scrapeline running right along the edge of the water. I really would like to get in there and hunt it, but to do it I would need a canoe, walk through a bunch of woods to get to it, and prevailing winds are from the west. Ideally, I could get permission from the neighboring property owner to traverse their field and get to this spot. So, today I called the neighbor who it turns out lives at least 30 minutes from this piece of land and asked 2 questions; 1) Could I cross their land?, 2) Was there any room for a bowhunter on their property? I was speaking to the wife and she said she would talk to her husband about question #1. As far as bowhunting their property was concerned she said, "We don't allow any kind of hunting, ever." This is fine, but meanwhile I'm thinking, "What about the guy I met 2 years ago who was hunting your land while I was 20 yards from the property line (stand A)?" And/or "How about 4 guys wearing bright orange on opening day of gun season sitting in trees on your land (X's)?" I didn't say anything though. There really wasn't a reason for her to lie about the hunting- I'm pretty darned sure these guys know that the owners won't be there. Kind of interesting, eh? My girlfriend makes me watch that dang show, What Would You Do, with John Qiuinones(?) all the time, so now I feel a little guilty about not saying anything. What would you do? PIC.bmp
  2. Hah! Thats ok. Look at all the territory I have all to myself...

My father and I wanted to have some fun and shock a friend in the adk's. My dad is having major surgery Nov 2nd and we wanted to have some fun before the surgery. You guys are incredible detectives. Two different trucks and tarps-smart. The rack is real however, and they are the same buck in both pictures. He was shot in Canada in 1983 and scores 204 1/8Kelsey scoreboard 2001/8 B&C. I hope everyone has a good laugh, if not I'm sorry. The post was just going to far. Pass this on to My hunting forum and ADK hunter if you will, or I can. It was fun as hell though. My dad did laugh his *** off, so I am happy.Yes, we did do this to a frend in the catskills with the other truck about 10 years ago. Hope all is cool..........
  4. There are also dwarf and semi-dwarf varieties that are advertised as producing apples within a couple years. I am sure these need to be fenced. This year I have been collecting apples from trees that still have fruit hanging in mid-late october and popping the seeds out. I found somewhere on the internet how to start them in the fridge. We'll see how it goes. Good to know about the crabapples too, I may buy some of them.
  5. I shot a scruffy looking one last night and missed one 2yrs ago. 7H. They are around but there are a lot of guys that hunt them with dogs in my area, so I don't see them all that often, although they do show up on my trail cams from time to time.
  6. Those bucks sure have some big bodies on them! Bruisers.
  7. This came out great! Really neat to be able to see where people are from. It appears I need to do a little recruiting in my area to get people on the site.
  8. Nice work. Nice buck. Are you sure he was only 2 in 2009?
  9. Would it be interesting to have a map of NY somewhere on this site that had the location of the forum members' on it? So you could see where people are from? Voluntary? *** Update - Click "Update Location" here: http://huntingny.com/forums/membermap
  10. I can live with that. Thats why I asked. When I paused the video, #5 does not have any sag to his belly or sway in his back. Last year I got caught up in the excitement of seeing a really nice buck finally and was disapointed when I got him on the ground.
  11. Here is some action at a sign post rub in my friends' backyard. Each year every buck that passes through has to tag it. Buck #5 really puts on a nice show. How old do you think he is? I like to think that he is 4 if you use bucks 2 and 6 as 3yr old reference points. Buck 5 has the the characteristic short-legged appearance of a mature buck. His right antler sure is messed up. I shall call him "Crunk". He is now on the hit list.
  12. I like to think they are both yearlings.
  13. Nice night in Cayuga county. Wish it was 10 degrees cooler though.
  14. What a perfect morning. I'm not hunting over a pasture, so I shouldn't see any heifers. Saw 6 does and 4a fawns last. Surprised to see more does than fawns. Coyotes?
  15. Why does anyone doubt this deer. Its a real nice buck, but we're not talking world record or even county record. Plus, if I had shot him, I would be too busy stroking those antlers to be posting pics on the internet
  16. Not to ruffle any feathers, but it cracks me up that every time someone guesses a bucks age its always some number-and-a-half. Really? Being a dairy farmer, my cows are 2yr-olds,3yr-olds, 4yr-olds, etc. It is especially interesting when we are looking at June trail cam pics and someone authoritatively says- "Wow, that buck is 4.5 for sure!" So, you think he was born in December? Its not anyone's fault as this and-a-1/2 stuff has been going on for years as the industry standard, but it does sound funny if you think about it. With fawns usually being born in late May/early June, the only time they are really something-and-a-half years old is late November/early December.
  17. Nyantler- he is a high 140s 8 at least. When you add in double-split brows and a couple kickers off the G2s, he should be knocking 160. Man, what a nice buck for anywehere in the U.S., let alone NY.
