I'm getting back into K9 trapping this year. So I'll be prepping my equipment, making bait/lure, Etc. I'll hit the river often for muskies and bass. Also can't wait for those delicious mushrooms to start popping up in the woods and it gives me extra time for scouting new areas for bow season. I'll probably clip about 36 Billion blades of grass too.lol

I found the 777 "magnum" pellets were too hot and gave erratic groupings. I then saw optimal results with the "regular" pellets. I have heard more than enough good stuff about the BH209 in the past few years to ignore it any longer. Now just gotta find some. One tip I'll share that I got from a buddy on another site is to use teflon tape on the breech plug and nipple threads instead of the messy paste. It works great!

Yup, you must be near a Revolutionary War battle/skirmish ground. The stuff was aimed towards the flag of the red-coats because the spirits came upon the house of a tory. (tory) an American who favored the British side during the American Revolution.

Multiflora Rose. Cut it 4-5 times per growing season. Then either burn it or use chemicals in the dormant season to limit non target killing.

Good news! I was typing my prior comment while you were posting that. -

The reason that I expressed some concern over them falling into the wrong hands is because my cousins truck window was smashed in and the thief stole his shotgun and used it in a robbery. The gun was held for a few years as evidence and they only returned the reciever to him. Hopefully this won't amount to that and they're returned to him. -
Red brook, which flows through long pond state forest supposedly holds brookies. Do you know if that's true?
-
Probably just Moka's perch. I hear them red-tails like red polka dots! lol

I like it! What a serene setting! Is that the Chenango canal? Genny? Or homemade dam?

Incredible Trail Cam Photo (Death On A Log Crossing)

I like that pic! Can you blame this yote?Yumm, just like veal! It most likely was going to feed its young. I hope those yote pups eat well and grow up to be awesome feral cat killers! Does NJ still have a booming black bear population? -
Hey that's good thinkin on your part. Glad they took you seriously!

I'm swithcing to loose powder this year too and I just wanted to mention another option by checking out the FBP(full bore projectiles). They eliminate the need for a plastic sabot. I might try them and I think Hornady came out with some. Not sure about the CVA but you should be able to remove the breech plug to unload. I do this but only reuse the bullet/sabot. My gun(Rem.700ML) loves the shockwave bullets.

Yikes! That stinks! Anyone who would steal another mans guns is obviously on the wrong side of the law. There could be trouble from this. I hope your buddy made a police report so if something happens he will not be suspected. -
homemade camo...

That'd be groovy maaaan! lol Good idea. It would probably work! -
Pure coyote, or does he have a little wolf in him?
PREDATE replied to NYbuck50's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Well that is a little more believable since mostly everything east of the Appalachians is the Atlantic coast(seaboard). I think the wolves probably kept the fox population low, but not non-existant. -

I've made a snow camo poncho a few times for predator hunting. Just used a bed sheet and different color sharpie markers to add a pattern. It's nice because I can move my hands underneath the poncho and not worry about them seeing me. I have a woodland camo ARMY rain poncho too which is great for turkey hunting. I can use friction calls and keep my gun dry as well. This year I might get some painters coveralls or seperate pants/jacket and just leave them plain white. I would try a tyvek, but just not sure if they're gonna be noisy or not. Canvas painters suits, while not waterproof, should be more durable. -
You should try to get in there before sunup to atleast listen for them to gobble on the roost. Don't go walking out through the field when it's light out, they might be roosting on the field edge. If it's raining out they might head for that field to eat bugs and they feel safer out of the noisy woods. Good luck and have fun!

Ah I see. Cool. Keep after them yotes, they're my favorite critter to hunt/trap. Mainly because they're not easy to get!

This kills me, what exactly classifies an "assault weapon"? A weapon used for assault? In that case all carpenters shall not carry nails with their hammers? Any handheld object under god creation could be used in an assault. From a stuffed animal toy to a post maul. A trigger lock and/or a locking gun case should be enough to keep a citizen within the law!

Are you in NY? Reason I ask is because your cam says April 17th and our(NY) coyote season ended on March 31st. Anyway, cool pics!
-
It aint over til' it's over. Still plenty birds left. Good luck out there guys. Don't think I'll have time to get out anymore.
-
They sure do have a nack for finding corn piles! lol Just kidding! You could try smearing some bacon grease around your cam. That should pull in some yotes.
-
If we were to be nit picky, we could also say that gray area is actually even larger(in this scenario) since the yote was only looking towards a house occupied by house cats. Yes some coyotes do become a bothersome nuisance and need to be killed, but we as sportsmen especially, should also realize that they're just being themselves, wild animals which are opprotunistic feeders. If we'd just do our best to minimize their opprotunities to kill or mame our pets/livestock then what's left is a healthy coexistance with the top dog of the east. Really a magestic, smart, beautiful animal in my opinion!

A true blessing! Congrats!
