  1. Its pretty obvious that you crossbow guys don't give a crap about NY bowhunting tradition.
  2. Wheel guns, flintlocks, and even smoothbore shotguns share a similar range. Should we allow these into bowseason, too? Obviously, there must be more to the decision than range alone. Blatant misinformation. Physics dictates that heavier projectiles, launched at equivalent (or higher) velocity, will maintain their velocity preferentially over lighter projectiles.
  3. The survey was sent out to ALL license holders, not just bowhunters.
  4. It hasn't happened to any significant level in Ohio.....growth in crossbows extends over vertical bows each year.
  5. You would bet wrong...it was ALL NY sportsmen, not just bowhunters.
  6. DUUUUHH, proves that sky has fallin HUH? Noone was trying to make the point that the sky was falling. It proves the point that crossbows cannabalize bowhunters. Please try to pay attention to the coonversation.
  7. You think about 1% is a small minority - around 2000 out of 200,000? I think in the science community this would be considered statistically insignificant LOL....membership is a small minority. But politically, NYB speaks for all 200,000 NY bowhunters....whether you like it or not.
  8. I am not interested in more "participants." I am interested in more bowhunters.
  9. Ummmmm......the data proves the point I was making. Duh.
  10. So bowhunters should just roll over and let their sport dwindle and diminish? Why should bowhunters have to sacrifice for crossbows? Is bowhunting not worth protecting? Thank god for NYB,representing and protecting the interests of ALL NY bowhunters.
  11. So you cant back it up? Then you just resort to your usual personal attacks. After you call me "full of crap?" Really? What a freakin joke.
  12. What is wrong wth that is that it was at the expense of bowhunters.
  13. 22%....you should get the point. Is this the new math? It was reasonably close, off the top of my head. And it does not diminish my point....Do you think a reduction of bowhunters of 22% is a good thing?
  14. It is not surprising that gun hunters wanted extra advantage. But, according to surveys, there is no desire for crossbows from bowhunters.
  15. You go find them....I am busy. They were done by Cornell in 2000 and 2005, if I remember correctly. And who cares if you haven't got a survey...you think the world revolves around you?
  16. No.....they require a crossbow permit. So tens of thousands of VA bowhunters stopped buying bow stamps and started buying crossbow stamps instead.
  17. But shotguns and rifles are allowed in the same season in many areas and fall under different restrictions......but are included in the same season. Rifles are not allowed in a shotgun only county, just as crossbows are not allowed in bowseason. Its that whole "superior weapon" thing.
  18. Epic FAIL. Do we need to revisit the definitions again? Pay attention. Crossbow hunters are just that.....crossbow hunters. They do not necessarily have bowhunters best interests in mind....in fact, it is obvious in threads such as these that they do NOT have bowhunters best interests at heart.
  19. You asked for an example of crossbows hurting bowhunting. I have given you 2 examples of crossbows limiting and shrinking the number of bowhunters. Less bowhunters is bad....bad for the industry. Bad for organizations. Bad for bowhunting.
  20. That's the right answer....they switched. A more reasonable explanation than yours is that bowhunters "upgraded." They believe crossbows to be sufficiently advantaged to dump their compounds and take up a crossbow. A lot like, in NY, how many used their inline MZ to get more range than a shotgun, then dumped their MZ for a .270 when rifles became legal to get an even bigger range advantage.
  21. There is. You only asked for one example, but I'll give you another. 2 years after VA legalized crossbows, the number of bow permits they sold had dropped by about 30%. Crossbows steal bowhunters. How does that help bowhunting?
  22. The last 2 surveys by the DEC regarding crossbows show that only a small minority (20% and 25%) wanted them included in bowseason. Now, if we can all agree that the will of the majority of NY sportsmen should be respected....we are done here.
  23. You are so quick to declare victory, you didn't even stop to consider the possible ramifications, did you? Obviously......if the crossbow was illegal, like here in NY, those crossbowers would have a choice. Bowhunt or sit home. Equally obvious.....the ones that crossbow now (but would have bowhunted had crossbows been illegal) were cannabalized from bowhunting. Less bowhunters = bad for bowhunting.
