  1. I found this interesting because I track eagles using GPS. While I don't expect anyone to go chasing after my eagles, it does raise possibilities for some species. https://m.phys.org/news/2017-02-canada-conservationist-cyber-poaching.html
  2. Falconers consider grey squirrels dangerous to their birds. They can turn and bite the hawks legs. This bird seems to have things quite under control. Could you send that bird down here. I had five of the rodents at my bird feeder yesterday, and that doesn't count the red ones.
  3. I finally managed to get this video uploaded to youtube. It shows a first winter golden eagle coming aggressively into my research site. It harasses the bald eagle on the bait while ignoring the 2 perched on the right. Notice how freaked out the ravens are after the golden eagle goes out of sight. That is pretty normal in these situations.
  4. Like Fast Eddie, I have had nuisance permits for deer. In fact, deer are the only thing I ever hunted at night. I went out with an LED light and lots of eyes lit up. However, all I could see was eyes. I went back home without shooting anything.
  5. How do you know he was a shed hunter? Hown do you know the land was posted?
  6. I don't recall seeing anything about it being night in the first version of the article. I see it now. There is no excuse, but I have never seen human eyes shine like a deer or dog.
  7. Hounds running where they aren't wanted has caused a lot of ill will in my area. An ECO told me it is a major source of complaints. I have a neighbor who confronted one of the local coyote hunters when he caught him releasing his hounds on a fresh track right next to a posted sign. The hunter actually got belligerent. He and his crew seem to have an attitude that dogs don't/can't trespass, only people can.
  8. I don't know the answer. I do know that some feeder pigs I was raising had mange. They quarantined my place until they were slaughtered.
  9. I was hoping for at least one germane response. Oh, well.
  10. Today's quote from John McCain - "The danger is not Trump perverting our Constitution or taking too much power; the danger is the polarization of America."
  11. I have heard that too. However, witnesses to actual attacks say they bite and grab the face with their teeth, holding on until they die of shock or blood loss. It sounds like a horrible way to go.
  12. Freeze or something. It doesn't look like it has much time left.
  13. I've been quite frustrated because my research site hasn't photographed any golden eagles this season. I still have 2 weeks to go. If I don't get one on camera, it will be the first year since 2010. Anyway, there are golden eagles here. I was going through video and found this one harassing a bald eagle. I don't know how to get a still out of a video so I took screen shots. The bugger was here but didn't feed. Another showed up Saturday, this time an adult, when a photographer was in the blind. He said it landed 50 feet from the bait behind some brush then flew off while being bombed by ravens. Ravens behave very differently towards the 2 species of eagle. They are very afraid of goldens, and hardly concerned about balds. I can't see the site from the house but ravens erupt regularly in large numbers, suggesting something dangerous - like a golden eagle is around. The goldens may just be hunting ravens. We've had them eaten before.
  14. I think great-horned are getting mice most of the time. We get infrequent shots of them, unlike barred. Barred owls will spend a lot of time on a carcass.
  15. It survived bear attacks, wow! There is a book out on using wildlife cameras for research. Some guys in Africa have had a number of cameras destroyed by elephants. That is certainly novel but a broken camera is broken whether an elephant or a raven gets it.
  16. I did a lot of work for DEC in the IP lands along the Big Moose road in 2004-2005. I hunt the state land - Pigeon Lake Wilderness, Independence River WF, and a bit of the Five Ponds. The leases south of Stillwater had tons more deer. I don't imagine they go to Eagle Bay, too far. I wouldn't expect them to move more that a couple of miles. When feeding was legal, people fed them at Beaver River Station. There would be 25-30 deer there, which given my hunting experiences at times, was a lot of deer.
  17. The Brownings are a step up from the Moultries I've been using for years. Wooly's shots are really great. Unfortunately, the ravens damaged mine. The cover on the motion detector is trashed and it's taking too many photos. When Browning gets more in stock, they will send me a replacement cover. I hope that solves the other issue.
  18. The hoods are handmade here in the states. I bought them from a falconry supply. Yes. Getting them out of the net can be a challenge.
  19. Here are some newer shots. The first is a great view of a young golden eagle at a camera trap. Then there are a couple of photos from the bone yard. Finally, there are 2 shots of a 2 year old golden eagle we trapped last Thursday. She was a beautiful 12 pound bird with 7' wingspan. We are GPS tracking her now.
  20. I'll query a couple of moderators to see which forums I am on allow selling stuff, them PM you.
  21. High end optics are definitely worthwhile for people who spend many hours looking through binoculars. You get better light gathering, better color and as mentioned, they are much easier on your eyes. As optics improve beyond the basic models most people use, small increases in quality cost an increasing amount. I use Swaroskis but the Ziess are in the same class. You might try selling them on a birding forum. Skilled birders have no trouble spending that kind of money.
  22. Nice hawk shots Wooly. I pulled the Browning. The ravens ripped a hole in the shield over the motion detector. I'm back to the Moultrie. I do like the Browning and am hoping to fix it. Right now it is taking lots of photos of nothing.
