I was talking about my ancestors. They were not slaves. -

I can't respond to everything but today I will indulge you. 1 - Because they are very likely to have a different point of view. Actually, a different reality - possibly more different than VJP's and Curmudgeon's. 2 - Yes. It seems apparent some do. 3 - I don't know about white guilt. Or privilege for that matter. It isn't a factor in my life. I do think it odd that a lot of white guys are arguing what about what this means while people whose experience we probably cannot understand are silent on this forum. My maternal ancestors were Irish - considered non-white at that time. They were disposal people used for dangerous work. They were valued less than slaves. When they were maimed or died no investment was lost. My "self-perceived white privilege" sees the remains of those navvies mouldering in the ground. -
Welcome. Hope the signal to noise ratio isn't too hard to take.

Not a one answered the original question. Papist - Admit you are enjoying yourself, especially being able to point fingers at me. (It's still raining so I'm still stuck inside.) -
Canceled my weekend plans because that will be the only dry period to get seasonal chores done.

Oh, and where are my usual allies? I think Wildcat doesn't read the news. He is probably still sitting on his porch in Malone with his shotgun on his lap. -

Their loss. -
I'm getting soaking wet today trying to get my tent of bird netting over my 2 dozen blueberry bushes. During this time, a catbird keeps coming in disturbed carrying food. She has a nest in the blueberries. I guess I won't be putting up the netting until they fledge.

Moi? I was astounded when I logged back in 10 hours later. I have now been called a racist, a misogynist and a probable aging-hippie draft dodger. While I may be guilty of something, if John Denver music is part of the punishment, we are going to trial. If you want a plea deal, put Django Reinhardt on the table or no deal. -

I agree. -
My brother likes to make blinds on the ground out of branches and such. He uses these for rifle season - especially opening weekend when we tend to sit tight. He had one set up on the neighbor's place where we have permission to hunt. He found out opening morning that a ladder stand had been placed directly over his blind. You have no exclusive use of other's property unless that is made clear at the outset. Such an arrangement would probably require a lease. The offending party that put up that stand wasn't even known to the absentee property owner. He was a friend of a friend of a friend. So many of them ended up hunting next door that we had to abandon using that property opening weekend. They even started coming over the line where they had compressed us - a situation I fixed promptly.

I have one small game hunter who drops off a bottle of wine every Christmas. A bow hunter who uses my property brought me several packages of caribou steaks after he went hunting in Quebec. He has also pitched in here during Christmas tree season. These things are always appreciated.

They are so brave and yet so anonymous. -
Some counties - Otsego for example - have their tax maps on GIS on the county web sites. You can get a mailing address for landowners on-line. This is quite helpful for learning if the owner lives on the property. I have sought permission for access a number of times from absentee landowners on the phone. Generally the response is poor. Most of these attempts were for non-disruptive research purposes. I would think this to be less of a concern than hunting. It is much better to make an initial contact in person.

Rob - From Urban Dictionary -Troll: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument Trolling is being provocative with the intention of causing upset and argument. You made a similar claim against me in the past. That is never the case. If I am provocative, there is always a compelling reason for what I post. The point of this discussion is, the site has been hijacked by the "Angry White Men". They have become tiring. Their agenda is not germane to the purpose of the site. Sorry if someone needed to point that out. The thin-skinned women have fled. Probably the thin-skinned men too. The Moroccan failed to share his feelings about the flag being used as a personal symbol - a symbol they claim means much more but one that was resurrected during the civil rights era for one purpose. Hopefully things will get back on track here as the fall approaches. -

Fascinating. -
Except for a few thick-skinned women, it appears this is a white men's club. If there are any non-white members, please tell us what you think of members displaying Confederate battle flags as their avatars in the wake of the slaughter in SC. Whatever anyone is trying to communicate with these flags, is their use good for huntingny.com? Will it make others feel welcome? Is it good for hunting?

Hey, he's my nephew. Be nice.

You totally missed the point again. I am going to bow out of this conversation now. I will try to be more literal in the future so as not to confuse anyone. Sincere thanks to Ants for an interesting point of view.

Upland Species Under-gunned
Curmudgeon replied to scolopaxmatt's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I pretty much only hunt deer these days, and that is limited, but hunting birds - especially with a dog - is a whole lot more fun than deer hunting. Wow. Great quote but likely to draw some heat. -

Literally no. But they would like to.

No different. They have fundamentally changed what that religion represents to many people. There are practitioners of that religion who are not violent, who are pacifists such as Sufis. They suffer because of how the image of that religion has been changed by violent maniacs. How about this: the word "gay" has totally changed its meaning. If I say someone is "gay", that no longer means they are happy, upbeat? I had a school mate, a girl, whose name was Gay. That wasn't so long ago. The original meaning of the word is gone, extinct. What I am saying is that the racists own that flag now. Fly it at your own risk.

Eastern Cougar not same as Florida and Western believed extinct

Probably they would eat the leaves if not the woody stuff. I was just being flip. It wouldn't help restore native species to bring in new ones.
