Turkey hunting is popular here, but not to the level of the southern folk...plus there's been a population decline...it's not bad, but not great either. When that happens, many people don't hunt. I know at least two lifelong hunters who aren't bothering to go out this year as their ground isn't great for turkey and the low numbers kill any realistic expectations.

Hunted this spot yesterday and now at work this morning. Me and Moog had this bird in sight and darn near dead yesterday and he wandered off without busting. So, instead of hunting and taking more vacation time, we choose to work and not hunt til Saturday. Of course, my cam sends me this. There's a blind literally 15 feet to the left of the cam. *Edit, I should add. This bird hung up in front of another cam yesterday...I have two dozen post card shots of him full strut teasing us. We had to watch him get his pic taken and couldn't close the deal. He's a taunter for sure.

Yada yada yada...you could have said it about FE and i still would have called you out on it. Back to topic.... I used borax once and had decent results. Helped dry it faster. I usually have trouble with the fan bowing outward even after i try to put weight on it to lay flat.

Look at you getting all fired up. Never met Grow and she'll be the first to attest we can butt heads quite a bit. But, I'm just disproving your statements. You make fun of her posting often when in fact YOU POST MORE based on the fact you have 3-400 MORE posts when you both joined on darn near the same day. If she posts every 3.2 seconds as you say, then you post every 3.1 seconds....get my drift? Sure she starts a ton of threads (a post is a post is a post), but let's not throw stones here....you post just as much, yet say you don't have to post to justify yourself. You are in fact Mr. Kettle on this thread. That's apples to apples, my friend. No need to get mad when painted into a corner and start lobbing "pathetic" comments, etc.

Most FL turkey hunters I know generally do well when they come up here. Easterns are much more vocal and the subtle calling technique the FL boys use works better here than the "call at will" most hunters employ in NY.

Bird numbers are lower. We got on a bird this a.m. and had him almost dead, but as usual, he hung up a mere yard or two too far to shoot in the timber full strut...right in front of my game cam...got two dozen pics to remember him by. He was the only tom or jake heard/seen today.
-
One vote Aye. Clearly shown full bird this morning...he's got the parts.
-
If he's somehow deterring toms from committing to decoys because he is so agressive, it could cost you the entire season at that spot.
-
Dead is dead...no need playing down the success. And, you were on public land, no? That's even more impressive beating out another hunter.
-
Your time between posts are less than hers...you both joined within 24 hours of one another and you have 3-400 more posts. U mad bro? LOL.
-
Might actually be better to kill him then...maybe with the bow from the blind so the boom doesn't shy the toms.
-
Sheesh...he'd be dead just on premise. Costing you money on a new deke....lol Cool vid.

Hands down the best overall value is goig to be the CVA Wolf. Opinions vary, but the Wolf will garner the most votes if it were a contest. It's price point vs. features make it a great brush gun to beat around with, a great gun for youth with its smaller frame, a good beginner MZ hunter choice, and accurate enough for a veteran. I own plenty of guns...and I still find time to kill deer with the Wolf. I shot a nice doe last season with mine and it looks like it went through hell.

I think everyone is just having fun here, no reason to get worked up, leave, or someone get mad at jokes....it's turkey season finally!

I just trim as much meat off, tack to a board and salt them. I'm not all that fond of traditional fan mounts though. I'm slowly getting the urge to have bird mounted though

Without a ton of intel...just be there and be ready to move on first gobble.

NIce shots...pretty unique experience to say the least. Certainly interesting she didn't want the others back into the den until you left. Surprise she sat idle that long with you 6 ft. away. Memorable experience, I am sure.

Roosting is a lost art form these days as property sizes shrink and blind hunting them rises in popularity. Lay down your roosting steps from start to finish...interested in picking up some new tricks to the trade.

Bought some new decoys - Zink Avian Jake & Hen
phade replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Turkey Hunting
Oh yeah, the weight does suck...I use a pillow case to keep them safe, lol. Nothing beats a cheap ol foamy that folds nicely for run and gun. -
Sunrise is 6:05 here for Wednesday. We were chatting about when to meet, etc. and we discussed how different some people are when getting set up. Some are early and some are as dawn is starting to filter through. I supposed a ton of it is where you set up in relation to the birds and their travels.

DSD? They blow away a Dakota or Zink...not even in the ball park. -

I bought a DSD ripoff, the Dakota Extreme jake...I love the posturing of it. Decoys are real expensive...check out the DSD buck decoy...I'd cry if a 2.5y/o blew it up. -
Id take that at 50 all day long.
