  1. If nothing else TF I hope you are still practice shooting your bow every now and again...stay frosty. Although I would say you are impervious to "buck fever." Where do I get my vaccine?
  2. My daughter and I were watching my little pony and we saw the buck TF passed... Gorgeous day with no kids making 120 requests an hour, but man zero mammal sightings either...it's starting to feel like one of those years..usually punched 2 tags by now.
  3. Man that chest goiter makes it tough but the rear end and barrel chest are screaming 4+ to me.
  4. Beautiful day...bit swirly but mainly WNW as I like it here... But again not only no deer no animals...hmmm wonder why: 2 of 8 sits have been idealish time and temp wise for me, drawn and passed on both of those hunts. In the other 6 less than idealish sits zero seen. Gotta pay to play
  5. Slid in real nice....my buddy got a good doe behind our houses this am. Im set!
  6. Your dogs are gorgeous! In college (many many moons ago) I helped raise a yellow lab seeing eye pup, Rosa. We all secretly wanted her to fail so we could keep her. These same old roommates of ours who like my wife and I are still together now with kids, just started training another guide dog...so fulfilling but so tough to let go!
  7. Good luck this AM fellas I will be in a stand by 9:45 if all goes well with the youngins this morning...if the wind stays like this I should have no problem sliding in undetected.
  8. I am getting pumped for another Hail Mary...forecast keeps getting better IMO
  9. Heading to a trusted stand tomorrow that's key feature is the small but roaring drainage ravine that I call the stairs...I climb them pretty much right to my stand. Temps look good here's to hoping! Pooring hard with some wet snow now...first flakes of the year here!
  10. Great harvest chef! Tough call but it worked out. Edit: I am now not sure at all that you may carry your weapon to dispatch the animal, I know deer search can with a gun during legal hours...what is the code? This is just my opinion but I would never ever leave a deer over night until I bumped him once after waiting 7 hours if I believed I had gut or liver shot in the pm. I have before always ended the same. I go back 7 hours later and if you bump then (and I have on a lung/liver confirmed)...back out and call the search dogs literally they cant miss a liver or gut and get back out as soon as you can. If you just muscle hit deer they will run a country mile, if you bump a liver shot deer that's already been laying nearly 8 hours he is probably going less than 100 more yards before he lays down again. All just my limited experience and opinion. I live in yote country, I leave it they take it, antlers too!
  11. I feel like I haven't seen a set of antlers on here since Oct 2nd...nice shooting slayer! Just ordered some antlerice for the first time in a few years...last time I used it I scored my biggest archery buck (my avatar).
  12. My first pup Sandy (I gotta try to find an old pic) was a Springer-Golden. Another great dog.
  13. I know these aren't standard issue but I am making due: My parents live right down the road for about a year now...they are feeding and bathing my kids and making me dinner while I hunt behind the house. Feeling lucky already
  14. In the weather debate I say their preference is for the climate to suit their clothes like any other animal... that said breeding activity and food will keep em moving but to a lesser degree than in ideal conditions...
  15. Live from the truck on my way home from my lease wind was swirling...didn't even see a tree rat
  16. Thanks again everyone I didn't intend it but this has been a fitting and very fulfilling tribute to my big baby of a Lab. Jdubs (my Otis also spoke Wookiee) what a blessing to get 16 great years from such a good friend...it's like an entire extra lifetime. This is my pack for now (time to get up for school):
  17. You are right I'm skipping the deep climber action and going fur a thick and quick access with the right wind. I have modest expectations but I'm pumped none the less (more so now that the wife is settled in England). Thanks for all the pointers folks.
  18. Love Steely Dan seen them several times since they started touring again in the 90's... I also was pretty torn up about Otis so I put some of his possessions in my pocket and when I picked up the puppy aka the selection of the Dalia Lama. I had pick of the litter and sure enough Bodhi jumped right off a pile of 10 sleeping 7 wk old puppies to jump in my lap. We used to also call him Black Otis.
  19. Thanks again for all the replies...so many great dogs, and cats! I may actually raise a kitten in the shed/garage next spring to help out with the rodents and keep Bodhi company outside. I forgot to mention my dogs names...Golden Otis(co), Brown (skane)Ateles & Black Bodhi(satva).
  20. Had my youngins to the bass pro this afternoon on the way home in this windy wet torrent I saw 6 does in one field near my home and the next field 2 big guys were hounding a lady.
  21. Do you brand yours? I'm gonna need to invest in one cuz I can't tell one mature doe to the next.
