    All of this but especially the last part. People who think they are above it all scare the hell out if me. Also, father/son is terrible but family/hunting buddy is the norm in accidental hunting shootings.

    Does are the breeders (limiting factor) so that's why any population management discussion is about does. Yes you get 3 for 1 and that's how the DEC /wildlife biologists and ecologists intend for it to work. Unless you think you have better (anecdotal) observations than the DEC fill them or give them to someone who will try.

    Took the 8 yr old summit open shot (LW at the lease) out to a new spot I've always wanted to check out, closest ever to the lot I can see my truck... But I'm in good hemlock cover overlooking knocked down golden rod and multiflora rose in an overgrown orchard with some apples left...heavy deer sign in there. May move a ladder stand here. Tis deer thirty according to astrology

    It has been a really crazy season but Sunday (11/27) I was about to pull into the public lot at noon to move a stand when 2 does nearly jumped out in front of my truck... I knew where they were going so I parked, grabbed my gun and jacket and cut them off all in less than 30 seconds. I was braced and ready when they walked right into me I shot at 5 yards brosdside 3 shots and then the same for her partner (another doe) in the same spots. They run off I run up on a downed one I thought was dead but she pops up...tracked all day in snow...lost them both: I went back Monday morning and followed crows to some gut piles but no new leads. Went out again mid morning Tuesday (11/29) and followed crows across the property with a rechecked gun/choke tube. As I was heading back toward the truck I ducked into some pines to check out a new stand location. At 11:45 I picked out legs at 80-90...I closed the distance thru the pines, braced for a 40 yd slightly away shot. Leading up to the shot she was behaving normally and showed no signs of prior injury until I skinned her which revealed she was one of Sunday's lost does. Sunday I shot her point blank on both shoulders and an abdomen (should have been liver) shot, none penetrated more than a half inch! This was Tuesday's single 40 yard shot with a cleaned barrel reset choke tube: Meat in the freezer and a loss redeemed/recovered. This is the 2nd time in 4 seasons I harvested a deer I had wounded with bad gun/ammo a few days prior. Im grateful (as is my wife and kids) for the monkey off my back.

    Had 2 doe take their new normal route just out of range of my ladder so I got down and closed the distance to 60 was braced and had the bead on a doe broadside but balked it was 4:25 and I could barely make her out against the backdrop. Then I popped up a loner on my way out. 6 seen this afternoon group doe action has been hot midday and beyond past few days. Congrats Rock on a bruiser!

    Still hunted this public parcel from 1:30-now I'm sitting in my ravine ladder which is usually old faithful. An hour into the still hunt I kicked up 3 doe at 5 yards after they winded me and snorted...I am not a jump shooter, others may have harvested in the same situation. I ended up tracking them off the property, always informative.

    Just skinned this doe to find out she is one of 2 I shot at point blank range Sunday only to lose them both inexplicably...I shot this doe 4 times Sunday cleaned my gun today 1 shot did the job...ill tell the crazy story in the harvest thread:

    Nearly 2 months into a very long season and after an extremely trying weekend the frustration ends: After cleaning my gun thoroughly this morning, I took a late morning stroll and at 11:45 scored my first spot and stalk, picked her up at about 80-90 I covered 40-50 through some pines to get the 40 yard shot. Monkey off my back in a year with so many sightings/chances/craziness...my wife is thankful.

    Another day another donut. Took 1.5 days off to harvest and trim a Christmas tree may be the only harvest of the year. Long deer season getting longer, I saw one big body for 2 seconds glued to brush but not rushing 40 yds at 8am. First deer sighting from stand in gun season. Smelled him next hour to my west but no visuals got down to track confirmed LARGE lone deer tracks lead from thicket on the public to the superthicket/golden rod/overgrown orchard off the property. Both climbers are at the lease so I'm hunting the am there grabbing a climber and spending the next 2.5 days trying to harvest the buck that got away 10/26. Congrats and good luck to all harvesting and hunting.

    Sitting here since 5:15 everything seems perfect. Until I recall that this branch cost me a P&Y 10 point on 10/26: then I recall the doe I popped open from here 10/02 that I inexplicably lost in a thicket only to be found last week 30 yds from last blood and I must have stepped over her half dozen times: I could really use a harvest...good thing I'm going Xmas tree hunting after this, can't miss (famous last words).

    Happy Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for much! Id be lying if I said this long season hasn't worn me to a nub but I'll be especially grateful for a harvest!

    Dead quiet here and those neighbors blew up my spot. Gonna track out. Song Mt opens wall to wall at 10...I'm going skiing!

    That is a printed poly-blend over a spring frame and 2 poles...I hope it fools a deer and not one of the neighbors I didn't expect!

    Drove an hour and 1/4 to the lease for privacy mostly got in nice before light. After first light a parade of headlamps meandered the boundary I was hoping the deer would come from. Anyway gorgeous 28 w light west breeze and about 6" of fluff. Cut tracks whole way, freshness right up to my stand. And you and me both fletch atleast you've got freezer meat!

    Im so thankful! My folks just arrived and are visiting for a month. They rented a house on Skaneateles so we have 2 lakes covered. Anyway besides the frequent mom made meals and dad drywalling jobs my folks have given me off of my full time job (dad duty for 2 under 5) to hunt as my heart desires the rest of the season. I will be out nearly every day for the next month. My dad also surprised me with this which I will be putting to good use on some short yardage stands next season: Also Song & Lab Mt's open Wednesday...it is truly a joyous season!

    Only would have been better if I had brought my alpine touring skis and scored a harvest. I love snow.
