  1. Weather relented and wife can do kid duty so I am heading out tomorrow am to hang 2 ladders and recover my climber from my tompkins lease (wanted this done 2 weeks ago), 1 tree is over a mile in. With my climber back in hand I may hunt Saturday PM up north if the forecast holds. 11 sets total
  2. Damn that's fast with a moderate arrow. Chuck another 200 grain on there and you are killing anything on earth through bone.
  3. 64lbs 75% let-off, APA Mamba Air TF 28" ATA, 320 IBO (@70) Under 5lbs total weight.
  4. Fresh King & Steelhead fillets with an assortment of glazes and one plain brine&smoke fillet:
  5. Smoking 4 grilling 1 king and steelhead fillets my buddy caught a few days ago still in progress:
  6. My parents who have been living in a tour bus style rv for the past 2 years just bought a home down the street. I am hopeful for a lot more hunting opportunities. My primary goal is to log hunting hours in the high 30's per week like the good old days. Secondary is filling all my archery and doe tags. Finally I'd like to drop a legit P&Y buck, but my lack of buck success last season will test my will.
  7. You can use up to 2 dmfa tags/day all season not just the special you don't need the 7r tag if your property is within the dmfa. you do need to sign up for the dmfa permit tho and report all hunts and log sightings at the end of the season.
  8. Got my best buck to date last Sunday afternoon of bow season a few years back... Best time to hunt public land is Sunday afternoons when the jets, giants and bills are on both time slots, I love the NFL and NY (no Sunday hunting back in PA).
  9. I've been using this head about 2 weeks, like new: Started my BH arrow rotation today, also marking up my arrows.
  10. This weather is bunk...I have 2 ladder stands to set and other fall junk to do, put the boat away 10 days ago and I was gonna go north for the 27th opener but it's gonna be hot as hell then too. I had a crappy attitude today because of this "great weather" but then I got this surprise in the mail: Dmap for my lease...sweet!
  11. 15-20 ft. I hate heights but deal with it, most sets my feet are probably 18' up. The basic ladders I use are only 15' the hangons and climber I usually go closer to 20 foot. Cover is king.
  12. First STC w/flex-fletch vanes right helical...20 yards:
  13. yeah I balked on even shooting my recurve this season let alone trying to hold one for nearly a minute...I'm only holding like 22lbs at full draw!
  14. I'm trying some different vane combos out quick and once I've sorted that out in the next day or so I will stop shooting FP's and multi-arrow sessions altogether. From about the 23rd on it will be 1 BH into 3D no more than 2 sessions/day right through to Christmas.
  15. Got some new boots delivered today...might be the last pair of these on earth in my size...when I find something I like they always stop making it!
  16. Trying out some flex-fletch vanes on my .320 6mm FMJ's...will compare them to the factory blazers tomorrow when they've cured:
  17. Wear them. Also as others have said mud on the boots and leaves in the boots. If it's raining when I get new gear I leave it out...tree stands too. Otherwise I dunk gear in the lake.
  18. I'm doing hunting simulations by either holding for 30 to 60 seconds or rushing the shot (If I hear a car in the distance I shoot before it drives past my house, I'm nowhere near the road tho, ha).
  19. I've been using 1 of my Stricklands as target head for over a week and it has not been phased. I only shoot 1 BH arrow per session into a 3D deer and it is always the first in order to simulate the shot that counts.
  20. Lanes are set up mostly for 10 to 20 with maybe 1 or 2 lanes out to 30 yards if it's open enough which it usually is not where I set up (on the edges between thick stuff and impenetrable stuff). All my archery bucks were inside 15 yards. Most of my whitetail harvests inside 25, only a couple around 30. That said if I'm paying attention I usually spot leg or head movement anywhere from 80-100 yards out...again in cover not open woods.
  21. Middle...lots of good stuff in the way of that long angled channel...and if that's a steep shot a lung will be hanging out of the cavity deflated and a massive blood trail that should result in rapid death, atleast I hope so with my arrow/BH combo.
  22. 27 Yards D'oh that has the makings of a heinous recovery experience thread! The next 2 were good enough but those weren't the Shot That Counts:
  23. Just got 2 more basic ladder stands for my lease...now a total of 11 stands over 3 main parcels. 7 of my sets are extremely portable so I think that's it for this season.
