Met two doe on the way to my stand. They saw me first. If only I had been 30 mins earlier... damn. Switched plans, sitting a different stand now. Hope they come through the clearing. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Just got home in 4L. Going to stuff the stomach with warm food, gear up and hopefully be up a tree by 2:30. Taping hand warmers to my socks today. Snow bow... Buck or doe will do. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

What's the difference? Baiting vs. Attracting
Rebel Darling replied to Zem18's topic in General Hunting
I still can't get my mind around this... Just because the end goal is the same does not mean the methods are. Planting a crop is not the same as dropping a bag of corn or apples. It's just not the same... Baiting does not have a bad year. Crops have bad years. Nature's rules vs. Man's convenience. There is a fundamental difference between the two methods, the end goal notwithstanding. Anyone seen Big Lebowski? Mark it zero, Dude. Tapping out. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk -
I'll be out tomorrow afternoon, hopefully at some point this weekend, and then all day on Tuesday. Stay warm, be safe, and enjoy the beauty of it if you're headed out today.

What's the difference? Baiting vs. Attracting
Rebel Darling replied to Zem18's topic in General Hunting
My position and point here is that there's a difference between the two. The goal at the end does not diminish the difference in methods to achieve it. The value judgement at the end? That's where many of us will part ways, and NYS and DEC make a legal determination on it. My personal opinion is that baiting (dumping a bag of apples, or a bag of corn) is a short-cut to achieve the same end as planting a plot. They are not the same to me. Baiting also has the opportunity to be a more reliable source of food than a plot or a tended orchard. I mentioned it in a prior post: one method plays by Nature's rules, and the other according to Man's convenience. I try to play by Nature's rules. I value that hunt more than I'd value the kill over a bag of apples. That's just me... The hunt is more than just the food at the end in my perspective. -

Yes. Exactly. There is a difference between the two. -

I go to the bank to make a withdrawl, or I go to the bank to rob it. The end is the same, right? I get money. But the methods are different. That's the difference. -

The end result does not diminish the differences between the two. -

In other words, one takes effort. The other doesn't. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk -
Posting up a zero here in 4L. Nothing seen but a Nuthatch. Oh, and someone in a pickup that parked along my road frontage and just sat there with the truck running for 20 mins. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Light wind up on the mountain, but it's all over the place. Swirling scent leaves me less than confident on my chances. 2 hours to go... I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

First sit in this stand all year. Tracks to the left, tracks to the right. I hope I'll be hanging a deer tonight... I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Planning out a bow hunt as I write. The winter gear is out, and now to choose a spot to sit. Two years straight, no apples. WNW wind complicating the decision. I wish my apple tree had produced this year, but it didn't, so there's no point in trying that as a food source. It's going to be another difficult late season on my little slice of 4L. We still hunted all day. Came up on two fresh tracks worth following, and... property lines stopped those tracks. Ha. Walked a pair of parcels I was totally unfamiliar with, but got some scouting in for a funnel new to me, an apple tree tucked away, and a good convergence of trails. Maybe something better to post next year... Hope you were one of those shots we heard. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

That's a tough break, in what must have been a thrilling afternoon. Good luck tomorrow. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

As today's reports come in, I'll add tomorrow's plan: Still hunting the majority of the day in 4H on public land with a good friend. Looking forward... he has a doe tag, and the tracks in the snow will lead us to bedding. Congrats to all who harvested today! Hope to get my buddy his first deer! I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Hunting bow Monday in 4L. Looking for another doe to fill the freezer. That is, unless I harvest a buck tomorrow. If that's the case, I'll head to 4J (bow only) and try to fill a doe tag. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

I told my wife I'd finish the house projects next week. "Actions speak louder than words," she said. I spent the following week working like a slave. "I feel like we don't talk anymore," she said at the end. "Which is it," I asked. That's when the fight started. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Just as an FYI, the DEC press release says "reported". Here's the language from the press release: "Through the third weekend of the Southern Zone regular big game season, hunters reported 69,550 deer in 2017 compared to 61,184 through the same period in 2016. For the Northern Zone, hunters have reported 11,349 deer in 2017 compared to 9,417 deer in 2016."

Late report from 4L. No need to report, really. 0 deer seen. Hung out on the edge of the marsh in the back by a trail leading out. Fat scat in it. So I thought maybe, just maybe... Then work started hammering my phone right at 4pm. Had to walk out in prime time. I have Monday off...

Live from the office desk. To hell with this. Going home. Going hunting on the mountain.

I drag the carcass out to the backwoods boneyard. In my mind, I return what I don't use to those who can. Oh, and the trail cam pics are fun to view. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

Nearly 20 deer carcasses found near Saratoga County boat launch

Good point on the stakeout. Might start seeing some piles elsewhere, if this person(s) keeps going. Yeah, something is very wrong here. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
