Going it alone today when I stopped to get my nephew this morning no answer after knocking for 5 minutes,the time change must have got him. I didn't go in quite as far as I had planned being alone had to keep it at a reasonable dragging distance, still a good spot up on a little knoll intersecting 2 trails with a stream running 50 yrds in front and a bedding area 100 yards to my right I have taken 3 deer from this spot hopeing to make it 4 36 degrees up here in the hill with a light breeze, heard several shots in the distance already but have seen nothing, good luck to all. Not seeing much rut activity in 6g or 6k seeing a few does but seem unpressured, only seen one buck ( a spike) and very few rubs or scrapes I think we are a week or so away which stinks because I'm off on vacation this week.I don't think this relatively warm weather is helping us any either. No luck on my doe from last night spent 3 hrs down on my hands and knees in the leaves following a sparse blood trail that eventually dried up to nothing.I don't believe from the amount of blood that it was lethal hit. At the last sign of blood she was about 100 yards from private property and that's where I believe she went.I hate to draw blood on game and not recover it but I think in this case that she is not severely hit and will recover to live another day. Barb your right no excuses I take full responsibility excited or not unloaded or not there was no way that gun barrel should have been pointed anywhere close to him and as a mentor I feel embarrassed that I allowed that to happen you can never forget the basic laws of gun safety.I will be calling him up tomorrow to go over what we did wrong, I apologize to any one I have affended and I will do everything I can to make sure it doesn't happen again. Well I got the best news and some not so good news we recovered the doe my little buddy shot mine I'm going to have to go back tomorrow I thought I heard mine crash but I guess it was just running through some thick stuff lost the blood trail.
