  1. Being warm and comfortable while on stand will keep you out longer which would lead to more sightings.
  2. As I read through the posts in the live from the woods thread, I m hearing grumblings of frustration . Be it few or no Deer sightings or weather. When I bought my property, 17 yrs ago , 175 acres , all wooded, it had been logged and was so thick , it was hard to hunt. But the deer sightings and quality of the bucks was un real. 8 , 10 point bucks were common , many does together with smaller bucks in tow. What has changed? I ' m older , have more time to hunt , but I' m seeing a few deer., nothing like 17 yrs ago. Frustration sets in and I find myself heading for the warmth of the cabin .I always head back out for the evening hunt but still few or no deer. What keeps the drive alive and why is the frustration common across all of NY state.
  3. If it gets any windier here , my butt cheeks are going to take a bite out of the seat.
  4. Nothing happening in 9k windy and40. Time to break out the. snacks
  5. Took a fat doe at 2:40 this afternoon, started to field dress and the skies opened up.Torrential down pour, I hung my vest on a tree and went for the Ranger, thank God it has a hard top. We'll see what the morning brings but will have to get the doe into the freezer .
  6. 9k did somebody call a cease fire . no shots last 20 min
  7. 9k few shots rain stopped breezy wind out of the south not seeing anything yet
  8. This is the second time I was at this ranch. The ranch is owned by a friend of my bother in law. We had use of the ranch house for 5 days and 30,000 acres to hunt. All it cost me was the drive out ,food adnd spending money, all less than $1000. A hunt of this caliber would be 4-$6kk. I ll be going back for 3 weeks next year and trade some labor for the opportunity to hunt.
  9. I shot a larger sheep later that day but the recovery was horrendous , I had to climb down a 40 ft cliff ,over rocks the size of cars. When I finally got to him , he had rolled and stopped 5 ft from 1000 ft sheer rock cliff. I took only the head and started the climb back up. All the time being careful not to put my hands near rattle snakes. I will use the cape from the first sheep with the 2 nd set of horns. Going to have a half sized mount walking down hill on a rock ledge that I will build off my stone chimney in the great room of my log home.
  10. I made a trip to west Texas for an Aoudad sheep , hog , whitetail , mountain lion , coyote hunt . I have a few pictures to share.
  11. Wow that sucks, just think , your day can't get any worse. It can only get better.
  12. I use the stick on toe warmers. I never thought about my feet until I read your post .I have been out for 6 hrs 8 degrees to 33 now, and I l be here until dark.
  13. Tree rats are active in 9 k , a few peckers banging away. No rut happening here
  14. I had some of the same symptoms about 20 yrs ago .So bad , the ER doctor put me in the hospital , thinking I was having a heart attack. A chest xray showed it to be a hiatl hernia . When I'm at deer camp and eat and drink all the wrong things ,I get the lump in my throat and have to eat tums for a few days and it subsides. .If it gets worse ,I will have to have it operated on, but I can still control it by watching my diet.
  15. In my T/C Triumph with a Nikon Omega scope with the BDC reticle , I use 3 pellets of 777 with a 300 gr. XTP., dead nuts accurate out to 250 yds. Only gun I hunt with for deer.
  16. T/C Triumph .50 cal. with 3 pellets of 777and 300 gr XTP bullet., Nikon Omega scope with BDC reticle , I'm dead nuts at 250 yds. Only use 3 pellets or 150 gr. if your gun manufacturer allows a magnum load.
  17. Got a coyote at 9 am in 9s , Allegany State park , with my T/C muzzle loader.
  18. Saw a big bodied buck, cruising down the valley about 200 yds away , no shot. This is all I got at 9 am .100 yds with my T/C Triumph .Then the wind started , then rain then eventually snow by 1 pm. So in all I saw a buck then 2 doe at 11 am. A least I saw something , all my hunting buddies saw nothing . I hunted Allegany State park (9S), been hunting there for 35 yrs.on opening day. Took many large bucks , the biggest deer I have ever seen were in Allegany State park. and saw 0 other hunters , very few shots
  19. Saw a 4 pt about 75 yds out, cruising through, hr and a half later a spike is just wandering around . No indication he was in a hurry . After 15 mins. he walks off and a small doe follows him. Not seeing any rut activity here in 9k.
  20. My brother in law and a friend have been buying property in west Texas near Sanderson tx , they have 2200 acres and are building a 4 bed room, 4 bath lodge . They are in process of high fencing the property , so that they can control the animals and eliminate the undesirable , like mountain lions . They plan to introduce African game animals like black buck , kudu , gemsbuck etc. Here is a picture of a 180 lb. mountain lion that was taken off the neighboring property when the crew was putting up a series of fence posts in a boxed canyon . Aoudad , whitetail , mule deer , elk , coyotes, and grey fox are available on the property, along with rattle snakes . I would like to connect on a 35" Aoudad , for a full body mount and a mountain lion would be a nice touch along with a few whitetail cull bucks. .
